CBSE Class 9 Syllabus 2024-25 English (Language and literature)

For students starting a new class, the syllabus acts as a route map. It aids in planning and organisation and provides clear expectations. CBSE Class 9 Section-Wise Weightage

The complete curriculum for class 9 English is as follows.

 

SECTION A: READING – 20 Marks 

• The section will have two unseen passages with the maximum word limit of 750 words. The passages can be of any two types out of the following: literary / factual / discursive. 
• Objective Type Questions (including Multiple Choice Questions), and Very Short Answer type Questions will be asked to test inference, evaluation, analysis and vocabulary in context.

 

SECTION B: WRITING SKILLS – 10 Marks

There will be both short and long writing tasks in this section. Writing skills is a scoring section and students must concentrate on the formats of the writing pieces. Also, the word limit should not be exceeded in order to avoid negative marking. The students must include all essential information required in the answer in order to score full marks. There is internal choice in each question in this section.

SECTION C: GRAMMAR – 10 Marks

Over time, grammar concepts will be taught and evaluated. There will be no division of syllabus for Grammar.

(ii) Statements
(iii) Questions
5. Clauses:
(i) Noun clauses
(ii) Adverb clauses
(iii) Relative clauses
6. Determiners

The above listed grammar topics will be tested through following integrated grammar questions of the following types.

 

SECTION D: LITERATURE TEXTBOOK – 40 Marks
