IIT JAM 2024 or the IIT Joint Admission test for Masters is an admission test conducted each year in order to offer admission to postgraduate degree programmes and solidify science as a viable career choice for students everywhere. IIT JAM 2024 Application Form
The IIT JAM 2024 Application form has already been released on September 5, 2023. The forms have been released on the JAM Online Application Processing System (JOAPS) (https://jam.iitm.ac.in/ApplicationProcess.php#).

- If the candidate wishes to change their examination cities/test papers/category/gender, then the fee for such changes is Rs.300 apart from the fee paid when completing the application process.
- Moreover, it is important to note that the candidates can only pay their application fee through online modes such as net banking, debit card, credit card or UPI.
- Note that the application fee is non-refundable and non-transferable, and thus once submitted there is no way for the candidate to cancel their application.
How to Apply for IIT JAM 2024?
Step 1: Registration Process
- Only the JAM Online Application Processing System (JOAPS) accessible through the “Candidate Portal” button on the website https://jam.iitm.ac.in will accept applications for IIT JAM 2024.
- Candidates have to first register on JOAPS website, by providing their name, a valid e-mail address, an active mobile number and setting a password.
Step 2: Completing the registration process
- Upon successful registration, the candidate’s Enrolment ID and OTP will be sent to the e-mail address and mobile number provided by the candidate.
- The candidate needs to use this Enrolment ID or e-mail address along with the password for submitting the application.
- Candidates are advised to keep the Enrolment ID and the password safe and confidential.
- Fill out the Exam details, such as the test paper the candidate wishes to appear for, the top 3 preferable examination cities for the candidate.
- Next, fill out all the requested personal details as asked in the IIT JAM 2024 Application Form.
- In case of SC/ST/PwD, the candidates must upload the scanned copies of the required documents, the details for which are provided in detail above.
- The details of qualifying degree should be filled out by the candidate next, so as to proceed further in the application process.
Step 3: Application Fee
- Once the details have all been uploaded, the candidate is now required to pay the IIT JAM 2024 application fee.
- It is important to note that the candidates can only pay their application fee through online modes such as net banking, debit card, credit card or UPI.
- The hard copy of the e-challan form and the IIT JAM 2024 Fee form should be with the candidates, once the IIT JAM 2024 Application process has been completed.
Step 4- Application Status
- The candidate can check the status of the application form such as Received, Under scrutiny, Accepted, Defect status, Status after rectification, Rejected with valid reasons, and Admit card ready for download.
IIT JAM Application Correction 2024
- If the candidate wishes to change their examination cities/test papers/category/gender, then the fee for such changes is Rs.300 apart from the fee paid when completing the application process.
- Moreover, it is important to note that the candidates can only pay their application correction fee through online modes such as net banking, debit card, credit card or UPI.
- The changes to the application form are also made online.
IIT JAM 2024 Eligibility Criteria
According to the official website for IIT JAM 2024 (https://jam.iitm.ac.in/eligibility-requirements.php) candidates must have the following prerequisites in order to be eligible for the exam:-
- Candidates should have passed an undergraduate degree or should be currently studying in their final year of undergraduate programme.
- The proof of having passed the qualifying degree with required eligibility, as specified by the Admitting Institute should also be submitted by the candidate.
- Candidates promoted without a marksheet should produce a certificate stating the subjects studied in that semester/year duly signed by the Head of the Institute.
- Indian nationals as well as, Foreign nationals with an Indian degree are eligible to apply, subject to policy of the Admitting Institute.
- At the time of admission, all admitted candidates will have to submit a Physical Fitness certificate from a registered medical practitioner in the prescribed form.
- The admitted candidates may also have to undergo a Physical Fitness test by a medical board constituted by the Admitting Institute.
- Admission is liable to be canceled if a candidate is found physically unfit to pursue their chosen course of study.
- In addition to this, it is important to note that it is the responsibility of the candidates to prove that they satisfy the Minimum Educational Qualifications (MEQs) and Eligibility Requirements (ERs) for admission.
- The Admitting Institute has the right to cancel, at any stage, the admission of candidates who are found to have been admitted to a Programme to which they are not entitled, being unqualified or ineligible in accordance with the rules and regulations in effect.
The Minimum Educational Qualifications are different for each institute and each IIT JAM 2024 Test paper. The candidate can therefore, find the Minimum Educational Qualifications for their desired institute and test paper on the official website for IIT JAM 2024 (https://jam.iitm.ac.in/meqs.php).
For the candidate to have some idea about these we have provided a list of the Minimum educational qualifications for some courses:-
- M.Sc. in Chemistry: Candidates must have a three year bachelor’s degree with Chemistry as a subject.
- M.Sc. in Economics (IIT, Delhi): Applicants must be graduated in BA, B.Sc., B.Com, B.Math, B.Stat., B.Tech., BE, or equivalent from any recognized university.
- M.Sc. Statistics (IIT, Tirupati): The candidates must have a bachelor’s degree in any discipline with Mathematics or Statistics as subjects for at least 2 years.
- Joint M.Sc. Ph.D. in Atmosphere and Ocean Sciences: The applicants must be graduated in any discipline with Mathematics and Physics with any one subject like, Chemistry, Computer Science, Geology, Computer Applications & Statistics.
IIT JAM 2024 Exam Pattern
The IIT JAM 2024 will be held for seven test papers namely,
- Chemistry
- Geology
- Mathematics
- Biotechnology
- Economics
- Mathematical Statistics
- Physics
The exam will be conducted through online mode. The mode of language and instruction for the examination is English. The total time duration for IIT JAM 2024 is 3 hours with the question paper being divided into 3 sections, i.e., A, B and C. All the sections are compulsory. There are a total of 60 questions asked, with the exam being of a total of 100 marks. The questions are multiple choice questions, multiple select questions and numerical answer type questions in nature.
There is no negative marking in Section B and C, however negative marking will be done in Section A. In section A, for the 1 mark question, 1/3 of marks will be deducted and for 2 marks questions, 2/3 marks will be deducted for each incorrect response. No marks will be deducted for unattempted questions.

All the seven test papers will consist of 3 sections, namely Section A, Section B and Section C.
- Section A: This section comprises a total of 30 Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs) with 10 questions of one mark each and 20 questions of two marks each. Each MCQ has four choices out of which only one choice is the correct answer.
- Section B: This section comprises a total of 10 Multiple Select Questions (MSQs) carrying two marks each. Each MSQ is similar to MCQ but with the difference that MSQ may have one or more than one correct choice(s) out of the four given choices. The candidate gets full credit and marks only if he/she selects all the correct answer(s) and no wrong answers.
- Section C: This section comprises a total of 20 Numerical Answer Type (NAT) questions involving 10 questions of one mark each and 10 questions of two marks each. For these NAT questions, the answer is a signed real number, which needs to be entered using the virtual numeric keypad on the monitor. Note that no choices will be shown for NAT questions.

IIT JAM 2024 Admit Card
The IIT JAM 2024 Admit Card will be released on January 8, 2024 on the JOAPS portal, i.e., https://joaps.iitm.ac.in/. The IIT JAM 2024 Admit Card will consist of the following things:-
- The Candidate’s name
- Registration Number
- Photograph
- Signature
- Name of the Test paper applied
- Code of the Test Paper applied
- Name of the Test Centre allotted
- Address of the Test Centre allotted
- Category
- Sub-Category
The original and valid Photo ID must be carried to the test center, along with a printout of the downloaded admit card. While completing the online application, the candidate is required to provide the specifics of this ID evidence. Without a legitimate admit card and an original, valid photo ID, no candidate will be allowed to show up for the JAM 2024 exam. It is necessary to show the admit card for authentication.If needed by the admitting institutes, the candidate must properly maintain a copy of the JAM 2024 admit card and present it at the time of admission.
It is important that the candidate checks their Admit Card thoroughly, in case of any discrepancies the candidate should inform through email at [email protected].
IIT JAM 2024 Result
The IIT JAM 2024 results will be announced on March 22, 2024, through the official IIT JAM 2024 website (https://joaps.iitm.ac.in/). Each candidate’s performance will be evaluated, and they will be assigned an All India Rank (AIR) for each Test Paper they appear for.
In case of a tie where candidates achieve the same total marks in a Test Paper, the following tie-breaking criteria will be applied in sequence: the positive-to-negative marks ratio, followed by the performance in NAT (Numerical Answer Type) questions, and then the Multiple Select Questions (MSQ) marks. If a tie still exists, the candidates’ date of birth (DOB) will be considered, with the older candidate receiving a better rank.
IIT JAM 2024 Counseling
The counseling for IIT JAM 2024 is scheduled to start on April 10, 2024, and it will be conducted online. Selection of candidates will be based on their performance ranking in the examination. The counseling process will consist of multiple rounds, with seat availability determining how many rounds will be conducted.
Successful applicants will confirm their allotted seats by making the necessary payment online. It is essential for candidates to present their original documents at the designated center for the verification process.
What after IIT JAM Result 2024?
The candidates are chosen based on their performance in the IIT JAM 2024. There will be four rounds of admissions scheduled, but if seats are not filled, there may be more rounds of admission or counseling. All Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) will participate in the Centralised Admission Process (CAP) for IIT JAM 2024 counseling.
