AFCAT 2024 Posts
Primarily the AFCAT 2024 will be conducted for the following posts:-
- Short Service Commission (SSC) is available to both men and women in the Flying Branch and Ground Duty Branches.
- SSC officers in the Flying Branch serve for fourteen years from the date of commissioning, while those in the Ground Duty Branch have an initial tenure of ten years, which may be extended for an additional four years based on various factors.
- The possibility of being granted a Permanent Commission (PC) is contingent upon several factors such as service requirements, vacancy availability, willingness, suitability, and merit, and it is subject to existing policies. It’s important to note that SSC officers do not have entitlement to receive a pension.

AFCAT Eligibility Criteria 2024: Marital Status
Candidates must be unmarried at the time of commencement of the course and marriage is not permitted during training. A candidate who marries during the period of training will be discharged and will be liable to refund all expenditure incurred on him by the Government.
AFCAT Eligibility Criteria 2024: Educational Qualifications
The following are Educational qualifications required in order to be eligible for the AFCAT 2024:-
- Flying Branch
- Candidates must have passed Class 12 with 60 per cent in Maths and Physics.
- They must also hold a graduation degree in any discipline/BE/BTech/cleared section A and B exam of Associate Membership of Institution of Engineers (India) or Aeronautical Society of India from a recognised University with 60 per cent.
- Ground Duty Technical Branch
- Aeronautical Engineer (Electronics):
Passed Class 12 with 60 per cent each in Physics and Mathematics and four years degree in Engineering/Technology
Or,
Cleared Sections A and B of Associate Membership of Institution of Engineers (India) or Aeronautical Society of India or Graduate membership examination of the Institution of Electronics and Telecommunication Engineers by actual studies with 60 per cent in disciplines specified by the examination authority.
- Aeronautical Engineer (Mechanical):
Candidates must have passed Class 12 with 60 per cent in Physics and Mathematics and degree/integrated post-graduation in Engineering/Technology
Or,
Cleared sections A & B examination of Associate Membership of Institution of Engineers (India) or Aeronautical Society of India by actual studies with minimum 60 per cent or equivalent in certain disciplines specified by IAF.

AFCAT Exam Pattern 2024
The AFCAT 2024 exam pattern consists of both online tests and AFSB tests. All registered candidates must take the online test, which covers subjects like General Awareness, Verbal Ability in English, Numerical Ability, Reasoning, and Military Aptitude Test. Technical branch candidates also face the EKT, which assesses knowledge in Mechanical, Computer Science, and Electrical & Electronics. AFCAT 2024 is scored out of 300 marks, while the EKT is out of 150 marks.
The AFSB 2024 tests are conducted in three stages. The first stage includes the Officer Intelligence Rating Test, Picture Perception Test, and Discussion Test.
