Biannual Board Exams option for class 10th and 12th Students from 2026-27 Academic Session

 

CBSE Board Exams – Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, on Wednesday has announced plans to conduct CBSE Board Examinations for Classes 10 and 12 twice a year, beginning from the 2026-27 academic session. Students will have the option to take their class 10th and 12th board examinations twice a year. This move is part of broader educational reforms intended to modernize India’s examination system and better support student well-being.

Union Education Minister also mentioned that efforts are being made to introduce the semester system in Classes 11 and 12 in accordance with the recommendations of the National Education Policy (NEP).

This reform aligns with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, aims to alleviate student stress and provide students with greater flexibility in their assessments. 

The first set of exams is anticipated in January-February, with the second set of board exams could be held in March-April, or alternatively, in June with the supplementary or improvement exams. Students can choose to appear in either or both sessions, with the higher score considered for their final result. 

In a meeting led by Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, the CBSE has been directed to launch CBSE Global Curriculum for Foreign Schools from 2026-2027 academic year and was asked to prepare a comprehensive action plan for its implementation.

The high-level meeting included key officials such as the Secretary of DoSEL, Secretary ER, MEA, as well as heads from CBSE, NCERT, KVS, NVS, and representatives from global schools.

Minister Dharmendra Pradhan shared on social media that the outcomes of the discussions will soon be open for public consultation by CBSE. The decision to hold two board exams annually is aimed at fostering a stress-free learning environment for students.

Meanwhile, the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) is currently conducting Class 10 and 12 Board Exam 2025. The board exams for Class 10 will be concluded on March 18, 2025 and Class 12 exams will be concluded on April 4, 2025.
