What is a Preposition ?
A word that is use before a noun ,noun phrase,or a pronoun connecting it with another word or element in the clause or part of the sentence is called the preposition.

Prepositions of time
The preposition which tells about a noun in terms of time is called prepositions of time.
जो विभक्ति संज्ञा या सर्वनाम के समय की सूचना दे ।
on, in, at, by, from, since, during, for, till, until, ago, before, after.
‘at’
‘at night’, ‘at present’, ‘at 5 o’clock’, ‘at half-past two’.
We went to eat ice – cream at night.
हम रात को आइसक्रीम खाने गए थे ।
The school gets over at half-past two.
स्कूल में छुट्टी ढ़ाई बजे होती है ।
Prepositions of Time Types with Examples
Let us discuss the important prepositions of time one by one
1. ‘on’
More specific as to the time ( a particular day or date)
‘on my birthday’, ‘on Diwali’, ‘on the 1st of January’, ‘on 15th August, 1947’
I got many gifts on my birthday.
मुझे जन्मदिन पर बहुत उपहार Types of Preposition मिले ।
We got independence on 15th August, 1947.
हमें १५ अगस्त,१९४७ को आज़ादी मिली थी ।
2. ‘in’
Non specific as to time (refers to a period of time).
‘in the afternoon’, ‘in the morning’, ‘in my youth’, ‘in the break’.
I go for a walk in the morning.
मैं सुबह सैर करने जाता हूँ।
We went for tea in the break.
हम ब्रेक में चाय पीने गए थे ।
3. ‘by’
Indicates a time not later than the given time.
‘by 12 o’clock’, ‘by next month’
The work must be done by Tuesday.
मंगलवार तक काम हो जाना चाहिए ।

4. ‘from, to’
Indicates the duration of time when the action begins and ends.
‘from Monday to Saturday’, ‘from morning to evening’
This shop is open from Monday to Sunday.
ये दुकान सोमवार से रविवार तक खुली होती है ।
5. ‘since’
Identifies the time of a continued action which has started from a particular point of time.
‘since Saturday’, ‘since my birth’, ‘since 10 o’clock’, ‘since yesterday’
It has been raining since Saturday.
शनिवार से बारिश हो रही है।
6. ‘for’
Identifies the time of a continued action which has been happening during a period of time.
‘for two hours’, ‘for a fortnight’, ‘for a week’, ‘for ten days’, ‘for a few minutes’
Ram has not come for the last two days.
राम पिछले दो दिन से नहीं आया।
7. ‘during’
Identifies an action which has been taking place through a given period of time.
‘during the vacations’, ‘during the meeting’, ‘during the assembly’
Both of them were talking during the meeting.
वे दोनों मीटिंग में बातें कर रहे थे।
8. ‘before’
Indicates the time at or earlier than.
‘before they came’, ‘before sunset’, ‘before you went away’
Ram had left before Sham came.
राम शाम के आने से पहले जा चूका था ।
9. ‘after’
Indicates the time at or later than.
‘after they left’, ‘after the show’, ‘after it rained’, ‘after the hero arrived’
She fainted after the show.
वो कार्यक्रम के बाद बेहोश हो गई ।
10. ‘ago’
Indicates the time back in the past.
‘Two years ago’, ‘billions of years ago’, ‘long ago’, ‘two decades ago’
Dinosaurs were present on the Earth 65 million years ago.
डायनासोर ६५अरब साल पहले धरती पर पाए जाते थे ।
11. ‘till / until’
Indicates up to a particular time or occurrence.
‘till you come’, ‘until you apologize’, ‘until the work is completed’, ‘till sunrise’
I run till sunrise.
मैं सूर्योदय तक दौड़ता हूँ।
You will not get food until you complete your homework.
तुम्हें तब तक खाना नहीं मिलेगा जब तक तुम अपना गृहकार्य पूरा नहीं कर लेते।

मैं सात बजे तक काम करूंगा।
I will work till 7 o’clock.
मैं आधे घंटे में लौट आऊंगा।
I will be back in half an hour.
मैं इम्तेहान के दौरान अचानक बीमार हो गया।
I suddenly fell ill during the examination.
वे दुकान में दस बजे से बारह बजे तक होते हैं।
They remain in the shop from 10 o’clock to 12 o’clock.
मैं इसे पिछले दो दिनों से पढ़ रहा हूँ।
I have been reading it for the last two days.
वे कल से गा रहे हैं।
They are singing since yesterday.
राधा गीता से पहले आई थी।
Radha came before Geeta.
बारिश के रुकने तक इंतज़ार करो।
Wait till it stops raining.
मैं तुम्हारे बाद आऊंगा।
I will come after you.
वे चार बजे तक पहुँच जाएँगे।
They will reach by 4 o’clock.
