Sayed Haider Raza is a passionate, visionary artist who embodied profound spirituality. His artwork reflects a deep-seated awareness of Indian culture, environment, and philosophy. Raza’s artistry was built from his deep devotion, inevitability of inquiry, and evolution in artistic habit, making him an iconic modern artist at an international level.
Raza began his artistic career by producing water colours depicting Indian landscapes in Madhya Pradesh, followed by gradually moving to abstraction art through his experiences and influences from Western traditions, and artistically searching for an internal sense of meaning. Having made a study of the Bindu (dot), it is suggested that the dot symbolised the source of life and movement of cosmic energy, revealing an artist not only skilled from a professional perspective, but on a deeply spiritual level. Raza left India and spent most of his artistic career in France, but through it all, he maintained concepts of Indian Thought and the Indian aesthetic, which he represented through the use of Indian scriptures, symbols, and the Indian language to convey sentiment and meaning.
