Character Sketch of Caesar
Julius Caesar is the central character in this scene. He is a powerful and confident man who is about to be crowned king. He is awakened by a storm and his wife’s cries, but he is not afraid. He believes that fate is not to be feared and that he is more dangerous than any threat. He initially agrees to stay home to please his wife, Calpurnia, but he is easily swayed by Decius Brutus, who reinterprets Calpurnia’s dream and convinces Caesar to go to the Senate.

Character Sketch of Calpurnia
Calpurnia is Caesar’s wife. She is very worried about her husband and tries to convince him not to leave the house. She has a dream in which she sees Caesar’s statue bleeding and believes it is a warning of danger. She is so fearful that she gets down on her knees to beg him to stay home. She shows her love for Caesar by trying to protect him from what she believes is a sure disaster.

Character Sketch of Decius Brutus
Decius Brutus is one of the conspirators who plan to kill Caesar. He arrives to escort Caesar to the Senate. He reinterprets Calpurnia’s dream to mean something good and convinces Caesar that staying home would make him look weak and afraid. He successfully gets Caesar to leave his home and walk into the trap.
