National Institute of Design invites applications for B.Des/M.Des Programs 2017-18

The National Institute of Design (NID) offers 4-years Bachelor of Design (B.Des) Program at Ahmedabad and 2½ years Master of Design (M.Des) Program at Ahmedabad, Gandhinagar and Bengaluru Campuses

Important Dates  

Online Registration and Application Process Commences on October 26, 2016 (Tuesday)

Deadline for Receipt of Online Applications on November 28, 2016 (Monday)

Last date of online application with late fee : December 2, 2016 (Friday, before 2.00 PM)

National Institute of Design is an Institute of National Importance by NIC Act 2014 and an autonomous Institute under the DIPP, Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Govt. of India

I. Bachelor of Design (B.Des) Program:

The four (4) years Bachelor of Design Program at NID’s Ahmedabad Campus is offered in the following areas of specialization:

Faculty of Desgin (Product Design 15 seats, Furniture Design 10 seats, Ceramic & Glass Design 10 seats)

Faculty of Communication Design (Graphic Design 15 seats, Animation Film Design 15 seats, Film and Video Communication 10 seats and Exhibition Design 10 seats)

Faculty of Textile, Apparel & Lifestyle Accessory Design (Textile Design 15 seats)

II. Master of Design (M.Des) Program:

The 2.5 years Master of Design Program at NID is offered in the following disciplines of specialization at its campuses in Ahmedabad, Bengaluru, and Gandhinagar:

Main Campus, Ahmedabad: Product Design (15 seats), Furniture Design (15 seats), Ceramic & Glass Design (10 seats), Graphic Design (15 seats), Animation Film Design (15 seats), Film & Video Communication (15 seats), Textile Design (15 seats)

PG Campus, Gandhinagar: Transportation & Automobile Design (15 seats), Toy & Game Design (10 seats), Photography Design (15 seats), Apparel Design (15 seats), Lifestyle Accessory Design (15 seats), New Media Design (15 seats) & Strategic Design Management (15 seats)

R&D Campus, Bengaluru: Information Design (15 seats), Interaction Design (15 seats), Design for Retail Experience (15 seats), Universal Design (15 seats) & Digital Game Design (15 seats)

Eligibility Criteria

Bachlor of Design (B.Des) Program:

Admission is open to students who have passed or who will appear for qualifying examinations under the Higher Secondary (10+2) or equivalents like AISSCE/IB/ISC during the academic year 2017-18

Successful candidates shall be given admission to the academic programme, by the institute, subject to their passing the qualifying examinations

Age Limit: Upper age limit for candidates is 20 years of age (relaxable by three years for reserved category) on or before July 01, 2017

For General Category: The candidates born before July 01, 1995 are not eligible

For Reserved Categories: The candidates born before July 01, 1992 are not eligible

Master of Design (M.Des) Program:

Applications is open to applicants who have successfully passed any one of the following qualifying exams in 2015:

Bachelors degree in any discipline under the 10+2+3 system, from any university or institute recognized (by law) in India, with a one year experience or further academic qualifications

Diploma in Design under the 10+2+4 system, from any university or institute recognized (by law) in India

Age Limit: Upper age limit for candidates is 30 years (relaxable by 3 years for reserved categories) as on July 01, 2017

For General Category: The candidates born before July 01, 1986 are not eligible

For Reserved Categories: The candidates born before July 01, 1983 are not eligible

Design Aptitude Test (DAT)

All candidates applying for B.Des, GDPD and M.Des Programs and having made the necessary payment for registration online will be called for the Design Aptitude Test

There will be one question paper of 3 hours duration; the question paper will be in English; the question paper will carry a total of 100 marks and the question paper will consist of both objective and subjective type questions

Test Centres for Design Aptitude Test:

DAT will be conducted in the following cities in India: Ahmedabad, Bengaluru, Bhopal, Chandigarh, Chennai, Dehradun, Guwahati, Hyderabad, Kolkata, Lucknow, Mumbai, Nagpur, New Delhi, Ranchi, Thiruvananthapuram, and Vijayawada
