NID DAT 2021 – The National Institute of Design (NID) invites online applications for the Design Aptitude Test (DAT) 2021 for admission to the Bachelor of Design (B.Des.) and Master of Design (M.Des.) Programs from Indian and International applicants for the Academic Year 2021-22

NID DAT 2021 Details

  • National Institute of Design (NID) conducts NID Design Aptitude Test 2021 will offer admissions to aspirants in the Bachelor of Design (B.Des) as well as Master of Design (M.Des) Program on the basis of their performance in the entrance test. The National Institute of Design (NID) offers 4-years Bachelor of Design (B.Des) Program at Ahmedabad and 2½ years Master of Design (M.Des) Program at Ahmedabad, Gandhinagar; Bengaluru Campuses.

Eligibility Criteria for NID DAT 2021

Eligibility for Bachelor of Design (B.Des.) :

All applicants applying for the B.Des Program must fulfill both the following criteria; of age and education qualification:

Age Limit

For Indian Nationals in General Category and General EWS Category: Only those candidates born on or after 1 July 2001 are eligible to apply for admission.

For Indian Nationals in Reserved Category (Other Backward Class-Non Creamy Layer (OBC-NCL), Scheduled Caste (SC) & Scheduled Tribe (ST)): Only those candidates born on or after 1 July 1998 are eligible to apply for admission.

For Indian Nationals in PwD Reserved Category: Only those candidates born on or after 1 July 1996 are eligible to apply for admission.

For Foreign Nationals in Overseas (Supernumerary) Category: Only those candidates born on or after 1 July 2001 are eligible to apply for admission.

Educational Qualification

Candidates who have passed or will appear for higher secondary (10+2) qualifying examinations in the academic year 2020-21 in any stream (Science, Arts, Commerce, Humanities, etc.) from any recognised board of education such as CBSE, IB, ICSE or their equivalent.

Examinations considered equivalent to these are as follows:

Final examination of 10+2 system under a central or state board recognised by the Association of Indian Universities (AIU, Refer www.aiuweb.org)

Intermediate or two-year pre-university examination under a board or university recognised by the Association of Indian Universities (AIU, Refer www.aiuweb.org).

Final examination of the two-year course of the Joint Services Wing of the National Defence Academy.

Senior secondary school examination under the National Institute of Open Schooling, with a minimum of five subjects.

Any public school, board or university examination completed in India or in any foreign country recognised as equivalent to the 10+2 system by the Association of Indian Universities (AIU, Refer www.aiuweb.org).

H.S.C. vocational examination/ General Certificate of Education (GCE) examination at the Advanced (A) level taken in London, Cambridge or Sri Lanka.

Candidates who have completed final examinations for class XII (or equivalent) outside India or from a board not specified above should produce a certificate from the Association of Indian Universities (AIU) confirming that the examination they have passed is equivalent to the Class XII examination conducted in India.

Overseas Category (Supernumerary) candidates

Foreign citizens – applicants holding citizenship of a country other than the Republic of India – are eligible to apply only under the overseas (supernumerary) category, provided they fulfill all the eligibility criteria.

Eligibility for Master of Design (M.Des.) :

All applicants applying for the M.Des. Programme (any discipline) must fulfill both the following criteria; of age and education qualification as under :

Age Limit

For Indian Nationals in General Category & General EWS category: Only those candidates born on or after 1 July 1991 are eligible to apply for admission.

For Indian Nationals in Reserved Category (Other Backward Class-Non Creamy Layer (OBC-NCL), Scheduled Caste (SC) & Scheduled Tribe (ST)): Only those candidates born on or after 1 July 1988 are eligible to apply for admission.

For Indian Nationals in Person with Disabilities (PwD) Reserved Category: Only those candidates born on or after 1 July 1986 are eligible to apply for admission.

For Foreign Nationals in Overseas (Supernumerary) Category: Only those candidates born on or after 1 July 1991 are eligible to apply for admission.

Educational Qualification

In addition to satisfying the above age criteria, the candidate must possess at least one of the following minimum qualifications to be considered eligible for admission:

Bachelor degree of minimum 4-year duration in any specialization, after 12th standard or equivalent to 12th standard from any university or institute recognised by law in India. Condition: Applicant must have passed the Bachelor degree examinations at the time of document verification tentatively scheduled in July/August 2021. OR

Full-time Diploma of minimum 4-year duration in Design/Fine Arts/Applied Arts/ Architecture, after 12th standard or equivalent to 12th standard, from any university or institute recognised by law in India. Condition: Applicants must have passed the Diploma examinations at the time of document verification tentatively scheduled in July/ August 2021.

Bachelor degree of minimum 3-year duration in any specialization, after 12th standard or equivalent to 12th standard. Condition: Candidates must have passed the 3 years Bachelor degree examinations by 2020. OR

Those Applicants who were in the final year of Academic year 2019-20 and whose examinations have not been conducted by 2020, due to pandemic situation prevailing in the country, can also apply.

Overseas Category (Supernumerary candidates)

Foreign citizens – applicants holding citizenship of a country other than the Republic of India – are eligible to apply only under the overseas category, provided they fulfill all the eligibility criteria. Of the seats available for the M.Des, 15% supernumerary seats have been created for overseas applicants.

NID DAT 2021 Admit Card

  • The NID DAT 2021 Admit Cards will be available for download on the NID website (www.admissions.nid.edu) as per the schedule. It is solely the responsibility of all candidates to download and print their own respective Admit Cards
  • Candidates need to bring the admit card to appear for the entrance test. Firstly, the admit card will be issued for Design Aptitude Test (Prelims). Based on the scores obtained in the DAT Prelims, eligible candidates will have to appear for Design Aptitude Test (Mains). The admit card for DAT Mains will be issued for only shortlisted candidates.

About DAT 2021 Prelims

Based on the scores obtained in the DAT Prelims, separate merit lists shall be prepared for each category (General, General-EWS, OBC-NCL, SC.ST & PWD) as applied for by the candidates. Only shortlisted candidates will be eligible to appear for the DAT Mains as per the schedule.

About DAT 2021 Mains

  • Based on the scores obtained in the DAT Prelims, eligible candidates will be shortlisted for the DAT Mains. Admit Cards for shortlisted candidates will be available for download only on the official NID admissions website (http://admissions.nid.edu).
  • The DAT Mains will consist of tests in multiple formats such as in a studio set-up. The tests will be conducted over a maximum period of three days.
