National Institute of Design announces Design Aptitude Test (NID DAT) 2023 for B.Des and M.Des Admission 2023, Apply Now

 

NID DAT 2023 – The National Institute of Design (NID) invites online applications for the Design Aptitude Test (DAT) 2023 for admission to the Bachelor of Design (B.Des.) and Master of Design (M.Des.) Programs from Indian and International applicants for the Academic Year 2023-24.

Eligibility Criteria

Bachelor of Design (B.Des.)

  • All applicants applying for the B.Des Program must fulfill both the following criteria; of age and education qualification:

Age Limit

  • For Indian Nationals in General Category and General EWS Category: Only those candidates born on or after 1 July 2003 are eligible to apply for admission.
  • For Indian Nationals in Reserved Category (Other Backward Class-Non Creamy Layer (OBC-NCL), Scheduled Caste (SC) & Scheduled Tribe (ST)): Only those candidates born on or after 1 July 2000  are eligible to apply
  • For Indian Nationals in PwD Reserved Category: Only those candidates born on or after 1 July 1998 are eligible to apply for admission.
  • For Foreign Nationals in Overseas (Supernumerary) Category: Only those candidates born on or after 1 July 2003 are eligible to apply for admission.

Educational Qualification

  • Candidates who have passed or will appear for higher secondary (10+2) qualifying examinations in the academic year 2021-22 in any stream (Science, Arts, Commerce, Humanities, etc.) from any recognised board of education such as CBSE, IB, ICSE or their equivalent.
  • Examinations considered equivalent to these are as follows:
  • Final examination of 10+2 system under a central or state board recognised by the Association of Indian Universities (AIU, Refer www.aiuweb.org)
  • Final examination of the two-year course of the Joint Services Wing of the National Defence Academy
  • Senior secondary school examination under the National Institute of Open Schooling, with a minimum of five subjects
  • Any public school, board or university examination completed in India or in any foreign country recognised as equivalent to the 10+2 system by the Association of Indian Universities (AIU, Refer www.aiuweb.org).
  • H.S.C. vocational examination/ General Certificate of Education (GCE) examination at the Advanced (A) level taken in London, Cambridge or Sri Lanka

Overseas Category (Supernumerary) candidates

  • Foreign Citizens – applicants holding citizenship of a country other than the Republic of India – are eligible to apply only under the overseas (supernumerary) category, provided they fulfill all the eligibility criteria.

 

Master of Design (M.Des)

  • All applicants applying for the M.Des. Programme (any discipline) must fulfill both the following criteria; of age and education qualification as under:

Age Limit

  • For Indian Nationals in General Category & General EWS category: Only those candidates born on or after 01 January 2023 are eligible to apply for admission.
  • For Indian Nationals in Reserved Category (OBC-NCL, SC & ST): Only those candidates born on or after 1 January  1989 are eligible to apply for admission.
  • For Indian Nationals in Person with Disabilities (PwD) Reserved Category: Only those candidates born on or after 1 January 1998 are eligible to apply for admission.
  • For Foreign Nationals in Overseas (Supernumerary) Category: Only those candidates born on or after 1 January 2023 are eligible to apply for admission.

Educational Qualification

  • Applications for academic year 2023–24 are open to candidates who have passed or will appear for higher secondary (10+2) qualifying exams in the academic year 2022-24 in any stream (Science, Arts, Commerce, Humanities etc.) from any recognized board of education such as CBSE, IB, ICSE or equivalent

Examinations Considered equivalent to these are as follows:

  • Final Exam of the 10+2 system under a Central or State Board recognized by the Association of Indian Universities. Intermediate or two-year pre-University Exam under a Board or University recognized by the Association of Indian Universities
  • Final examination of the two-year course of the Joint Services Wing of the National Defence Academy
  • Senior Secondary School examination under the National Institute of Open Schooling, with a minimum of five subjects
  • Any public school, Board or University examination completed in India or in any foreign country recognized as equivalent to the 10+2 system by the Association of Indian Universities
  • H.S.C. vocational examination

Application Fee

  • For General/General-Ews/OBC-NCL Candidates – Rs. 3000/-
  • For SC/ST/General-PwD/ Candidates – Rs. 1500/-
  • For General-Ews-PwD/ OBC-NCL-PwD/ SC-PwD/ ST-PwD Candidates – Rs. 1500/-
  • Overseas Category (Supernumerary) – Rs. 1500/-
  • Mode of Payment – Online through Debit Card/Credit Card/Net Banking

Design Aptitude Test 2023

  • The Design Aptitude Test 2023 will be conducted in two Stages:
    • Design Aptitude Test 2023 Prelims
    • Design Aptitude Test 2023 Main

 

Prelims – Exam Pattern

  • DAT 2023 Prelims: Based on the scores obtained in the DAT Prelims, separate merit lists shall be prepared for each category (General, General-EWS, OBC-NCL, SC.ST & PWD) as applied for by the candidates
  • Prelims Exam: 08th January 2023, Sunday
  • DAT Mains Exam: 29 April 2023 to 30 April 2023
  • Mode of Exam: Offline Mode (Pen Paper Based)
  • Language of Question Paper: English only
  • Duration of Exam: 3 Hours
  • Type of Question: Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs)
  • Total Marks: 100 Marks
  • Negative Marking: There will be no negative marking.

 

Test Centers

  • DAT will be conducted in the following cities in India Ahmedabad, Bengaluru, Bhopal, Bhubaneshwar, Chandigarh, Chennai, Dehradun, Guwahati, Hyderabad, Jaipur, Kolkata, Kurukshetra, Lucknow, Mumbai, Nagpur, New Delhi, Ranchi, Patna, Raipur, Shimla, Thiruvananthapuram, and Vijayawada.

 

Admit Card

  • Admit Cards will be available for download on the NID website www.admissions.nid.edu as per the schedule
  • It is solely the responsibility of all candidates to download and print their own respective Admit Cards. The admit card for DAT Mains will be issued for only shortlisted candidates.
