National Institute of Design (NID announces Entrance Exam DAT (Design Aptitude Test)2020 for B.Des and M.Des Admission

NID DAT 2020 - For the Academic Year 2020-21, the National Institute of Design (NID) invites online applications for Design Aptitude Test (DAT) 2020 for admission to the following Programs from Indian and International applicants.

NID DAT 2020 Details

  1. National Institute of Design (NID) conducts NID Design Aptitude Test 2020 will offer admissions to aspirants in the Bachelor of Design (B.Des) as well as Master of Design (M.Des) Program on the basis of their performance in the entrance test.
  2. The National Institute of Design (NID) offers 4-years Bachelor of Design (B.Des) Program at Ahmedabad and 2½ years Master of Design (M.Des) Program at Ahmedabad, Gandhinagar; Bengaluru Campuses and Graduate Diploma Program in Design - GDPD - 4 years at Vijayawada & Kurukshetra

 

Important Dates for NID DAT 2020

  1. Window Accepting Application Form online starts: 1400 hrs on Tuesday, 01st October 2019
  2. Last date for submitting online application: 1400 hrs on Thursday, 07th November 2019

Note

  1. In addition to the number of seats mentioned above, 3 seats per discipline (having 19 seats) and 2 seats per discipline (having 12 seats) are allotted for overseas (supernumerary) candidates.
  2. The percentage of seats reserved for candidates (Indian nationals) belonging to various reserved categories are as prescribed in the Government of India guidelines.
  3. Candidates can apply to a maximum of ONLY TWO disciplines for the Master of Design programme.

 

Eligibility Criteria for NID DAT 2020

For B.Des & GDPD

  1. All applicants applying for the B.Des and GDPD programs must fulfill both the following criteria; of age and education qualification:

 

Age Limit

  1. For Indian Nationals in General Category and General EWS Category: Only those candidates born on or after 1 July 2000 are eligible to apply for admission.
  2. For Indian Nationals in Reserved Category (Other Backward Class-Non Creamy Layer (OBC-NCL), Scheduled Caste (SC) & Scheduled Tribe (ST)): Only those candidates born on or after 1 July 1997 are eligible to apply for admission.
  3. For Indian Nationals in PwD Reserved Category: Only those candidates born on or after 1 July 1995 are eligible to apply for admission.
  4. For Foreign Nationals in Overseas (Supernumerary) Category: Only those candidates born on or after 1 July 2000 are eligible to apply for admission.

 

Educational Qualification

  1. Applications for academic year 2020-21 are open to applicants who have passed or will appear for higher secondary (10+2) qualifying examinations in the academic year 2019-20 in any stream (Science, Arts, Commerce, Humanities, etc.) from any recognised board of education such as CBSE, IB, ICSE or their equivalent

 

Exams considered equivalent to these are as follows:

  1. Final examination of 10+2 system under a central or state board recognised by the Association of Indian Universities (AIU, Refer www.aiuweb.org)
  2. Intermediate or two-year pre-university examination under a board or university recognised by the Association of Indian Universities (AIU, Refer www.aiuweb.org)
  3. Final examination of the two-year course of the Joint Services Wing of the National Defence Academy
  4. Senior secondary school examination under the National Institute of Open Schooling, with a minimum of five subjects
  5. Any public school, board or university examination completed in India or in any foreign country recognised as equivalent to the 10+2 system by the Association of Indian Universities (AIU, Refer www.aiuweb.org)
  6. H.S.C. vocational examination
  7. General Certificate of Education (GCE) examination at the Advanced (A) level taken in London, Cambridge or Sri Lanka
  8. High School Certificate Examination from Cambridge University or an International Baccalaureate diploma from the International Baccalaureate Office, Geneva
  9. Candidates who have completed final examinations for class XII (or equivalent) outside India or from a board not specified above should produce a certificate from the Association of Indian Universities (AIU) confirming that the examination they have passed is equivalent to the Class XII examination conducted in India

 

Overseas Category (Supernumerary) candidates:

  1. Foreign citizens - applicants holding citizenship of a country other than the Republic of India - are eligible to apply only under the overseas (supernumerary) category, provided they fulfill all the eligibility criteria

 

For M.Des

  1. All applicants applying for the M.Des. Programme (any discipline) must fulfill both the following criteria; of age and education qualification

 

Age Limit

  1. For Indian Nationals in General Category & General EWS category: Only those candidates born on or after 1 July 1990 are eligible to apply for admission.
  2. For Indian Nationals in Reserved Category (Other Backward Class-Non Creamy Layer (OBC-NCL), Scheduled Caste (SC) & Scheduled Tribe (ST)): Only those candidates born on or after 1 July 1987 are eligible to apply for admission.
  3. For Indian Nationals in Person with Disabilities (PwD) Reserved Category: Only those candidates born on or after 1 July 1985 are eligible to apply for admission.
  4. For Foreign Nationals in Overseas (Supernumerary) Category: Only those candidates born on or after 1 July 1990 are eligible to apply for admission.

 

Educational Qualification

  1. In addition to satisfying the above age criteria, the candidate must possess at least one of the following minimum qualifications to be considered eligible for admission:
  2. Bachelor degree of minimum 4-year duration in any specialization, after 12th standard or equivalent to 12th standard from any university or institute recognised by law in India. Condition: Applicant must have passed the Bachelor degree examinations at the time of document verification tentatively scheduled in April/May 2020*. OR
  3. Bachelor degree of minimum 3-year duration in any specialization, after 12th standard or equivalent to 12th standard. Condition: Applicants must have passed the Bachelor degree examinations before June 2019. OR
  4. Full-time Diploma of minimum 4-year duration in Design/Fine Arts/Applied Arts/ Architecture, after 12th standard or equivalent to 12th standard, from any university or institute recognised by law in India. Condition: Applicants must have passed the Diploma examinations at the time of document verification tentatively scheduled in April/May 2020*.
  5. Applicants in the final year of their Bachelor degree/ Full-time Diploma programme whose universities may not have issued the final degree certificate by the date of application to NID, are eligible to apply, subject to passing all subjects without any backlog. Such candidate will have to submit/produce Provisional Degree certificate at the time of counseling.

 

Overseas Category (Supernumerary candidates):

  1. Foreign citizens - applicants holding citizenship of a country other than the Republic of India - are eligible to apply only under the overseas category, provided they fulfill all the eligibility criteria. Of the seats available for the M.Des, 15% supernumerary seats have been created for overseas applicants

 

Design Aptitude Test (DAT)

  1. All candidates applying for B.Des, GDPD and M.Des Programs and having made the necessary payment for registration online will be called for the Design Aptitude Test
  2. The Design Aptitude Test (DAT) Prelims primarily evaluates each candidate on the following abilities:
  3. Knowledge
  4. Analysis
  5. Comprehension
  6. Creativity
  7. Visualisation
  8. DAT Prelims will consist of two parts:
  9. Part I: Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs) marked out of 70 points. The responses of this part will be recorded on an OMR sheet and evaluated digitally
  10. Part II: Subjective questions marked out of 30 points, with responses to be provided in visual and/or written formats. The Design Aptitude Test (Prelims) will include an examination of three hours duration
  11. This will be a pen-and-paper test.
  12. The question paper will be in English. All questions are compulsory.
  13. There will be no negative marking.

 

NID DAT 2020 Exam Pattern

DAT Prelims:

  1. The B.Des./GDPD DAT prelims paper will consist of an exam of 3 hours duration and 100 marks.
  2. This is a paper-and-pencil/pen test, conducted at the same time on the same day across all test centers. The questions asked may involve text and visuals.
  3. The question paper will be in English language ONLY.
  4. Based on the DAT Prelims scores, separate merit lists shall be prepared for each category applied for by the candidate. Only shortlisted candidates will be eligible to appear for the DAT Mains exam as per the schedule announced.
  5. Separate merit list will be prepared for Overseas candidates.

 

DAT Mains:

  1. Based on the scores obtained in the DAT Prelims, eligible candidates will be shortlisted for the DAT Mains. Admit Cards for shortlisted candidates will be available for download only on the official NID admissions website (http://admissions.nid.edu).
  2. The DAT Mains will consist of tests in multiple formats such as in a studio set-up. The tests will be conducted over a maximum period of three days.
  3. The total marks of the DAT Mains exam will be 100.
  4. The question paper will be in English language ONLY.
  5. The test centres could be any of the campuses of the various NIDs viz Ahmedabad, Bengaluru, Gandhinagar, Andhra Pradesh, Haryana, Madhya Pradesh & Assam. Exact details of the Test Centre will be mentioned in the DAT Mains Admit Card. NID reserves the right to change the test centre.
  6. NID will not provide accommodation for candidates appearing for the DAT Mains;p candidates must arrange travel/accommodation at their own cost.

 

NID DAT Merit List 2020

  1. Based on the scores obtained in the Design Aptitude Test (DAT), separate NID DAT 2020 Merit Lists will be prepared for each category (Open, OBC-NCL, SC, ST & PwD). Based on the merit list of DAT Prelims, eligible candidates will have to appear for DAT Mains
  2. The number of candidates shortlisted will be no less than three times the number of seats available per category in that discipline or program. The final merit lists for the B.Des. programs will be generated category wise, based on the sum total of the weighted scores obtained by the candidate at each stage of the admission process

 

Test Centres

  1. DAT will be conducted in the following cities in India: Ahmedabad, Bengaluru, Bhopal, Bhubaneshwar, Chandigarh, Chennai, Dehradun, Guwahati, Hyderabad, Kolkata, Lucknow, Mumbai, Nagpur, New Delhi, Ranchi, Thiruvananthapuram, and Vijayawada

NIT DAT 2020 Application Process

  1. Candidates aspiring for admission to the programs may apply online or download an application form from our official website www.admissions.nid.edu and follow the steps below:
  2. Read and apprise yourself with the information on eligibility criteria, number of seats, test centres, reservation policy and other relevant information related to admissions to B.Des and M.Des Programmes at NID in the Admissions Information booklet available on the website
  3. Application Form of NID DAT 2020 is available from 07th November 2019 onwards. Aspirants will be able to fill the form in online mode only. The application fee is Rs.2000/- for General category candidates and Rs.1000 for SC/ST/PwD candidates
  4. Relevant information related to admissions to GDPD Program at NID Vijayawada is provided in the NID Vijayawada prospectus, available on the website: www.admissions.nid.edu

 

Application Fee

  1. Candidates can pay the application fee via Online (by Credit Card/ Debit Card) or by Demand Draft. If paying the fee by DD take a printout of their NID Entrance Exam 2020 application form and thereafter send it along with the DD. Also, aspirants need to fill all the details regarding their DD in their online application form

 

NIT DAT 2020 Admit Card

  1. The NID DAT 2020 Admit Cards will be available for download on the NID website (www.admissions.nid.edu) as per the schedule. It is solely the responsibility of all candidates to download and print their own respective Admit Cards
Candidates need to bring the admit card to appear for the entrance test. Firstly, the admit card will be issued for Design Aptitude Test (Prelims). Based on the scores obtained in the DAT Prelims, eligible candidates will have to appear for Design Aptitude Test (Mains). The admit card for DAT Mains will be issued for only shortlisted candidates.
