An MBA after Engineering Degree – Why do it ?

Many of us believe that once we start our graduation, we are set for life. There would not be too many career oriented decisions from here on. The fact is that we are in an era where competition is at its peak. Everyone needs to and wants to get ahead of some else. Considering the world we are in, it has somewhere become a necessity to be better educated not only for the sake of competition but also for enhancing one’s own educational profile and the dent it will bear on your career.

For someone who has completed their B.Tech/ B.E. the choice of choosing between an MBA degree or M.Tech/ M.E. might seem like big one. Many students are left pondering about the obvious question of what next? There is no doubt that both these options are equally paying off in the long run with good career prospects and opportunities. But today let us look at the benefits of pursuing an MBA, once you have completed your engineering degree.

The MBA course after your engineering course will not only be sharpening your management skills but will also give you an insight to the generalist roles in a variety of non technical industries which in turn will bring for you new career opportunities for an otherwise technical person. Which in layman terms means that not only will you be given the opportunity to shine your existing skills but also there will ample of new prospects presented your way.

Do not do it because of the sole purpose of pursuing MBA, because people around you have opted for it. Also, the contradiction to this is, that do not drop the idea of doing a MBA because too many people around you are doing so. Some of the common papers you can appear for are CAT, MATXATCMAT, and many more. If you think you can crack the examination, go ahead. You can specialize in a field of choice. Although the most heard of might be Sales, Marketing and HR but there are a couple of others which are just as good. You would have the option of International Relations, Finance, Operations, and many others.

Benefits of pursuing MBA after engineering:

Better pay packages: The first and foremost why anyone would be attracted to any higher education would be the job prospects that come your way, once you’re done. So obviously, the answer to that question is that there will be better and higher salary jobs that come your way.  A simple example is that even though an engineer working technical jobs will put in more effort than some at the managerial job, but the compensation will be more in case of a manager than the technician.

Wider Job Prospects: Like we had discussed in the beginning that we are living in a world of competition and globalization. So, somewhere finding a job based on the basis of your B.Tech/ B.E. degree would be tougher as compared to that when you couple it up with an MBA. It is up to you to stand out and shine your way through your career.

Combined Functional and Technical Perspective: It is the mere fact that engineers who will complete their MBA will be better assets for companies and will be more often looked out for. Where an engineer will only be looking at the technical aspect, the MBA would also be concerned with the functional point of view. So now somebody who is now from the engineering background will be able to give perspectives to both these styles of working and so will be of more value to the company.

Remember

MBA does not have to be a non-technical job if you don’t want it to be.  There are plenty of students who end up taking Quality Control, Six Sigma, Total Quality Management, Sales engineering, Auditing, Health and Safety as their major courses in MBA by choice. This not only opens a complete new avenue for but will also be utilizing their engineering degree to work.

We hope that this article does give you some insight to pursuing an MBA after your engineering degree in B.Tech/ B.E. and give you an insight to what you can look forward to on completion of your MBA.

Good luck choosing!
