CAT exam will be conducted in November this year across the country. CAT Exam Notifications will be updated in the month of July. More than 2 lakhs students register for CAT every year. CAT 2019 was conducted on November 24, 2019, by IIM Kozhikode.

What is the CAT Exam?

Common Admission Test or CAT is a national level computer-based Management Entrance Exam for selection in MBA and PGDM programs conducted by IIMs. This entrance exam is conducted every year as a gateway to admission to IIMs and other B-Schools in India.

CAT Exam Eligibility Criteria

To become eligible for CAT exam, candidates need to look at the following criteria:

  1. Candidates must have a graduate degree with minimum 50% marks as aggregate or equivalent CGPA.
  2. Candidates with CA/ICWA/CS degree with minimum 50% marks as an aggregate are also eligible to apply.
  3. There is no limit to a minimum and maximum age and there is no restriction to several attempts in the CAT Exam.
  4. For General category, minimum marks required is 50% and for SC/ST/PWD, minimum marks required is 45%

CAT 2020 Exam Pattern

CAT 2020 Exam Pattern is the same as CAT 2019. No new changes have been notified by IIM till now. Exam Pattern helps the candidate in getting an overall idea of the examination for which they can prepare well enough.

CAT 2020 Syllabus

CAT Exam includes three sections: Verbal Ability & Reading Comprehension (VARC), Data Interpretation & Logical Reasoning (DILR), and Quantitative Aptitude (QA).
Based on previous years' question papers, here is the list of important topics per section which will help candidates to prepare well for the CAT Exam.

CAT 2020 Admit Card

Admit cards for CAT 2020 will be available in September 2020. Exact dates will be available after the release of official notification. Admit Card contains Personal Details, Test Venue, Exam Session, etc. Candidates need to carry a valid photo ID issued by the Government of India along with Admit Card.

 

How to Download Admit Card?

Visit CAT official website and click on Login. Click on Admit Card and enter your User Id and Password. Download your Admit Card by clicking on ‘Download Admit Card’.

CAT Result gets declared in January the month of every year. Similarly, CAT 2020 Result will be declared in the first week of January 2021. Candidates can view their results on the official website of IIM CAT and download the CAT scorecard.

FAQs on CAT 2020

Q1. Is there any negative marking for the wrong answer?

Ans: Yes, for every wrong MCQ based answer, -1 mark will be deducted. But for Non-MCQ based answers, no mark will be deducted.

 

Q2. Could final year students of bachelor’s degrees apply for the CAT exam?

Ans: Yes, they are eligible to apply for the CAT exam but their result will be provisional until they produce the final year mark sheet.

 

Q3. Is there any minimum age restriction in the CAT Exam?

Ans: No, there is no age restriction for CAT Exam.

 

Q4. How many sections does the CAT Exam have?

Ans: Three sections

 

Q5. What is the exam duration of the CAT Exam?

Ans: 3 hours divided into 60 minutes per section.

 

Q6. What is the marking scheme in the CAT Exam?

Ans: For each right answer, 3 marks will be awarded. For the wrong answer, -1 mark will be deducted. For Non-MCQ answers, there is no negative marking.

Ans: For reserved candidates such as SC/ST/PwD, minimum required marks are 45%

Ans: Registration form is a five-page document for which candidates need to visit IIM CAT official website. Register online and then log in using User ID and Password. Enter your details  and upload the required documents. Select 4 options for Test centers and enter professional and academic details. Pay application fees online, using net banking/credit or debit card/UPI payment.

 

Q9. What is the Application fee for CAT Registration?

Ans: For General and OBC candidates, application fee is INR 1900.

For PWD/SC/ST candidates, application fee is INR 950.

 

Q10. Is it necessary to carry Admit Card on the examination date?

Ans: Yes, candidates must carry the admit card along with a photo ID to the exam center.
