DASA 2017 (Direct Admission of Students Abroad) for UG Programs

NIT Srinagar will be conducting Direct Admission to Students Abroad (DASA) in 2017. The responsibility of carrying the admission process for Direct Admission of Students Abroad (DASA) for the session 2017-18 has been entrusted upon NIT Srinagar.

The admissions will be made for Foreign Nationals/Persons of Indian Origin (PIOs)/Non-Resident Indians (NRIs)/ Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) under Direct Admission of Students Abroad (DASA) Scheme of Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD), Govt. of India for Undergraduate Programs in Engineering/Architecture/Planning for the Academic year 2017-18 to National Institutes of Technology (NITs), Indian Institutes of Information Technology (IIITs), Schools of Planning and Architecture (SPAs), and other premier Technical Institutions in India

Under DASA 2017 admission, foreign national includes Non-Resident Indians (NRIs), Persons of Indian Origin (PIOs) and Overseas Citizens of India (OCI). These candidates are selected on the basis of SAT score for admission in various Engineering and Architecture courses, as offered by the participating institutes

Eligibility Criteria

Age Limit

Only applicants who are born on or after 01st October 1990 will be considered eligible. The date of birth declared by the candidate should be as recorded in the Secondary Education/University Certificate or any other certificate issued by a Competent Govt. Aauthority

Academic Eligibility

The applicant ought to have passed the Senior Secondary (10+2) or equivalent examination from any system of education that has been given recognition by the Association of Indian Universities;

The applicant should have also studied Mathematics, Physics and one of the subjects from Computer Science, Chemistry, Biology, Biotechnology at Class 11 and/or Class 12 level;

The candidate should have secured a minimum aggregate of 60% marks or 6.50 CGPA or its equivalent in the qualifying exam. In case, candidates have been awarded grades or CGPA on a different scale, the equivalent percentage/CGPA that is provided by the principal exam authorities will be taken into consideration;

The applicant should have also secured a minimum total valid SAT Subject Score of 1440 (Subjects-Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics Level 2). SAT subject test score has to be sent directly through College Board to NIT Srinagar

Residential Requirement

Foreign Nationals/Overseas citizens of India/Persons of India Origin who have completed the qualifying examination in any country, including India will be considered eligible
Indian Nationals who are studying abroad are also eligible to apply, subject to the condition that they have completed Class 11 & 12 or its equivalent from outside India

Selection Procedure

Candidates will be selected for admissions strictly on the basis of their SAT Subject Test Scores that is received by the National Institute of Technology (NIT), Srinagar

A Merit List will be prepared which will enlist the names of all the eligible applicants on the basis of their total SAT Subject Test scores

In the case of candidates who have made multiple attempts, the best of the candidate’s valid individual subject scores will be taken into consideration

Tie-Breaking Principles of DASA

In case of a tie, wherever two or more candidates have secured equal marks, the following principles will be used:

Candidates with higher marks in the SAT Subject Test Math Level 2 will be ranked higher;

In the second instance, candidates with higher marks in the SAT Subject Test Physics will be ranked higher;

In the final instance, if the tie is still not broken, then the date of birth of applicants will be compared and the older candidate will be ranked higher

How to Apply

Eligible candidates can apply through Online www.dasanit.org and submission of required documents online (scanned and uploaded). SAT subject test score to be sent to NIT Srinagar through College Board, USA (Institute Code 7283)

Application Fee

Registration Fee and First Semester Tuition Fee: A total amount of US$ 4300 (US Dollars Four thousand three hundred only) is required to be paid along with the application form
This is towards non-refundable registration fee of US$ 300 and first semester Tuition Fee of US$ 4000 Foreign Nationals, who are nationals of SAARC countries, are eligible for 50% Tuition Fee waiver provided they have passed the qualifying exam in SAARC countries

Tuition Fee for subsequent semesters of study: The tuition fee of US$ 4,000/ US$ 2,000 (as applicable)

Fee Payment
The applicants who fulfill the admission criteria specified and should submit the application form online along with the requisite registration fee and first semester tuition fee. The fee can be paid through either E-payment or SWIFT Transfer
