Karnataka University Dharwad announces Entrance Test for PhD Admission 2019-20

Karnataka University Phd Admission 2019-20 - Application for admission to the degree of Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in the prescribed form are invited from the eligible candidates for the year 2019-20.

KUD – PhD Admission

  1. A candidate shall submit duly filled-in application form along with necessary documents to the Chairman of the concerned Dept. on or before 19th October 2019
  2. A teacher fellow (On QIP/FIP Programme) shall work on a regular basis in the Dept./Research Centre during the period of Fellowship
  3. A candidate may register for full-time or part-time PhD programme
  4. Full time PhD program shall be undertaken by an eligible candidate who will work on a regular basis in the department till the submission of the thesis
  5. Part time PhD program shall be undertaken by an eligible candidate who does not prefer to pursue research on a regular basis in the department till the submission of the thesis


Eligibility Criteria for Karnataka University Phd Admission 2019-20

  1. Any candidate who has obtained a Postgraduate degree from a recognized University including foreign candidates and sponsored candidates securing not less than 55% marks (50% for SC/ST/CAT-I/Physically Challenged candidates) at the Post-Graduate Degree shall be eligible to apply for the PhD degree program
  2. In the case of those candidates who are appointed on a regular basis prior to 31st Mar 1992 as teachers, librarians and physical education personnel in colleges and University Depts., the minimum marks shall be 50% (45% for SC/ST/CAT-I) provided they are continuing in service at the time of submission of application for registration
  3. If the results of Master’s Degree declared in the form of grades/credits/cumulative points in their marks cards/transcripts, such grade/points shall be converted into percentages to assess the minimum eligibility criteria specified above


Entrance Test

  1. All the applicants possessing the minimum percentage of marks at their P.G. Degree as specified in Regulations 1.1 and 1.2 shall appear for the Entrance Test. However, (a) Govt. Sponsored foreign candidates, (b) candidates who have cleared the UGC/UGC-CSIR JRF Test/NET/SLET (Karnataka)/GATE/ GRE/ M.Phil (Admitted through an Entrance Test) shall be exempted from the Entrance Test
  2. Candidates who have cleared UGC/UGC-CSIR JRF Test/ NET /SLET (Karnataka)/ GATE/ GRE/ M.Phil (Admitted through an Entrance Test) Exam willing to appear for the Entrance test should apply separately.
  3. Maximum Marks for Entrance Test: 100 marks
  4. Nature of Questions: Multiple Choice Questions
  5. Syllabus for Entrance Test: Research Methodology and Cognate/Core subjects of the P.G. Department conducting the Entrance Test
  6. Number of Questions: 100 questions, each carrying 1 mark, 50% of the questions shall be from Research Methodology and the remaining 50% from the cognate/core subjects
  7. The Department Council shall prepare the question papers for the Entrance Test
  8. The 50 Questions on Research Methodology shall consist of data interpretation, language comprehension and test of reasoning. The other 50 Questions shall be based on current PG syllabus of cognate/core subjects
  9. Duration of Entrance Test: 120 minutes
  10. Venue of Entrance Test: Exam Section and Dr. R.C. Hiremath Institute of Kannada Studies, K.U. Dharwad

Preparation of Merit List

  1. The Govt. sponsored foreign candidates, candidates who have cleared the UGC JRF/ UGC-CSIR-JRF/GATE/ GRE/NET/SLET (Karnataka)/M.Phil (admitted through an entrance test) shall be placed first in the consolidated merit list based on their percentage of marks secured by them at their qualifying exam
  2. After the entrance test, merit list of the candidates shall be prepared as per merit on the basis of the marks obtained in the entrance test and marks obtained in the qualifying exam in the ratio of 50:50
  3. However, the candidate has to secure a minimum of 50% marks (45% for SC/ST/Cat-I) in the entrance test; names that appear in the merit lists shall be considered for the present vacancies only
  4. Attending the interview is mandatory; eligibility to appear for the interview shall not be construed as confirmation of registration for PhD
  5. Venue of entrance test respective PG Departments


Karnataka University Phd Admission 2019-20 Application Process

  1. Application form and the Bank challan (bank challan should be downloaded and printed in legal size paper) from the website www.kud.ac.in or www.kudacademics.org and the duly filled-in application form, along with all enclosures (including the original copy of the challan for application processing fee and Entrance Test fee if applicable) shall be submitted to the chairman of the concerned


Dept at KU Dharwad

  1. The candidates have to remit the prescribed fees to the account of State Bank of India/Syndicate Bank of KUD or through any branch of nationalized bank by downloading the appropriate challan
  2. The account numbers and IFSC code of the banks are given in the challan
  3. The candidates should attach the 2nd and 3rd copy of the challan along with the application form and submit the duly filled in application form along with all the enclosures to the Chairman of the concerned PG Department KU Dharwad


Caste Certificate / Fee Exemption

  1. The candidates claiming reservation shall submit copies of the Caste Certificates, wherever applicable, issued by the Tehasildar during the period of 5 years prior to the date of this notification along with the application form

  • Issue of Application forms: 01st October 2019
  • Last Date for receipt of application: 19th October 2019
  • Date of Entrance Test: 26th October 2019
  • Announcement of the List of Qualified Candidates: 02nd November 2019
  • Date of Interview: 09th November 2019
  • Meeting of the Doctoral Committee of all faculties: 13th November to 22nd November 2019
  • In case the last date is declared as holiday the next working day will be the last date
