Eligibility Criteria

M. Sc. Mathematics:

  • Eligibility: Bachelor of Science with Mathematics Or Mathematics at least up to second year B.E./B.Tech./ B.Sc. with minimum 50% marks
  • Relaxation of 5% marks will be considered for reserved candidates who are domiciles of Maharashtra.

M. A. Mathematics:

  • Eligibility: B.A. Mathematics (special or subsidiary) with minimum 50% marks
  • Relaxation of 5% marks will be considered for reserved candidates who are domiciles of Maharashtra.

M.Sc.: (Industrial Mathematics with Computer Applications)

  • Eligibility: Bachelor of Science (Mathematics at least up to second year) with minimum 50% marks
  • Relaxation of 5% marks will be considered for reserved candidates who are domiciles of Maharashtra.

Social Reservation

  • 3% seats are reserved for Physically handicapped Students
  • 5% Seats are reserved for Defense Personnel’s child/Ex-Serviceman Child.
  • One Migrant student from Jammu & Kashmir, per course over and above the sanctioned intake capacity will be admitted as per the merit in the entrance test.


  • Besides Govt. Scholarships, Department of Mathematics offers “seven” Scholarships every year. The scholarship amount is Rs. 1000 per month for ten months.


Selection Process

  • Selection is strictly based on merit in the Entrance examination.
  • Merit List will be prepared as follows :
  • For M.A. / M.Sc. (Mathematics) course:
    • Savitribai Phule Pune University (SPPU) candidates: 50% Entrance marks + 50% Qualifying Examination marks.
    • Other than SPPU candidates: Only Entrance Examination marks.
  • For M.Sc. (IMCA) course:
    • Only Entrance Examination marks.


Exam Pattern

50 Objective Type Questions carries 2 marks for each correct answer




  • Real Analysis: Metric Spaces, Sequence, Series, Continuity, Differentiability, Integrability, Connected Sets and Compact Sets
  • Algebra: Basic Combinatorics, Groups, Normal Subgroups, Class Equations, Sylow’s Theorems, Rings, Homomorphisms, Ideals, UFD, PID, Euclidean Domains, Eisenstein’s Criterion .
  • Complex Numbers: Arguments, Modulus, Inequalities, DeMoivre’s Theorem, Applications, Analytic Functions, Complex Integrals, Singularities, Liouville’s Theorem.
  • Differential Equations: Formation, Order, Degree, Linear Differential Equations with constant and variable coefficients, Exact Differential Equations, Integrating factors, Applications of Differential Equations.
  • Linear Algebra: Vector Spaces, Basis, Quotient Spaces, Linear Transforms, Matrix Algebra, Eigen values and Eigen vectors, Orthogonality, Diagonalization, Cayley-Hamilton Theorem.

M.Sc. (IMCA)

  • Calculus: Limits, Continuity, Differentiability, Integrability, Maxima , Minima, Mean Value Theorem, Rolle’s theorem.
  • Set Theory: Basic Combinatorics, Logic, Counting Principles, Relations, functions, Euclid Algorithm, Probability, . Sequences and Series, Real Numbers and Complex Numbers.
  • Matrix Algebra: Matrices, Determinants, Trace, Eigen values and Eigen vectors, Orthogonality, System of Linear Equations.
  • Discrete structures and C-Programming: Graph , Sub graph, Cycles, Connected Graph, Tree, Rooted Tree, Polish Notations, Computer Basics, Binary Numbers, Hexadecimal Numeral System, C Programming.
  • Aptitude: Number sequences, Fractions, Percentage, average, Ration , Proportion, Time work and Wages, Time and Distances, Clocks, Area, Volume, Profit-Loss, Simple and Compound Interest and Quantitative Data Analysi

Admit Card:

  • The admit card will be generated after the confirmation of payment by the Department of Mathematics, SPPU on on 5th June, 2018. The candidates can download the admit card by logging in to their account.


Application Fee

  • Open Category and Outside Maharashtra State Candidates - Rs.500/-
  • Reserved category Candidates from the State of Maharashtra – Rs. 350/-

  • Availability of Online forms for admission Integrated MSc MTech at https://campus.unipune.ac.in on/before 25th May, 2018
  • The candidates should first sign up to create login credentials (username & password). Using these login credentials, login to your account and then click on Pre-Admission (1st Year) and follow the instructions given therein.
