Ashoka University offers Young India Fellowship 2018 PG Diploma Liberal Studies

 

Ashoka University has announced the Young India Fellowship for the class of 2018-19. The first round application process will begin on 25th August 2017

 

What is Young India Fellowship ?

The Young India Fellowship (YIF) is a one-year multidisciplinary postgraduate diploma programme in Liberal Studies

 

The Fellowship brings together a group of 300 bright young individuals who show exceptional intellectual ability and leadership potential from across the country, and trains them to become socially committed agents of change

 

The aim is to help Fellows become well-rounded individuals who are able to think critically about issues from multiple perspectives, communicate effectively and go on to become self-aware leaders with a commitment to public service

 

The Young India Fellowship at Ashoka University is delivered in collaboration with University of Pennsylvania’s School of Engineering & Applied Sciences (SEAS), Carleton College, University of California Berkeley, University of Michigan, King’s College London, Trinity College Dublin, Sciences Po, Yale University, and Wellesley College

 

Eligibility Requirements for Young India Fellowship

Young India Fellowship Programme is open to all young men and women with:

A recognized undergraduate or postgraduate degree

 

The student must be in the final year of Undergraduate and Postgraduate Degree from renowned University of India

 

No more than 28 years of age on 31st May 2018

 

The Fellowship promotes diversity and applicants from all areas of specialisation are encouraged to apply; while applicants who have been educated in a vernacular language as their medium of instruction are welcome, it is expected that they will be able to converse, read and write in English

 

Selection Process

There are various factors which are evaluated for the selection of the candidates like submitted application, telephonic interview, personal interview and also the General Ability test to assess the candidate's verbal, written and analytical skills

 

Each part of application and interview is necessary and the selection of the application for the fellowship programme will be done in view of the mixture of both

 

The four stages which are taken for the selection of applicant

 

1. Applications Assessment: All applications are evaluated by the selection committee formed with faculty and executive members of the program

 

2. Telephonic Interview: Short-listed applicants will be interviewed on the telephone before being called for an in-person interview

 

3. On the-Spot Essay Writing: Applicants short-listed for Personal Interview are required to write a short essay before their interview; the essay topics are drawn from the applicant's’ area of interest/expertise

 

4. In person Interview: Applicants short-listed for Personal Interview are interviewed in Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata and Bangalore. There could be several rounds of interview for a candidate on the same day, depending on the need for further assessment

 

There is no application fee to apply to the program

 

Financial Aid

Young India Fellowship believes that talented and bright students may belong to any social or economic strata. To make it possible for all deserving applicants to avail this opportunity, Young India Fellowship offers 'need-based' scholarships that cover, in full or in part:

 

a) Tuition expenses for lectures and workshops

 

b) Boarding and lodging

 

c) Cost of reading and case materials, library subscriptions and shared text books

 

Scholarship

1. Merit Scholarship on tuition Rs 100000

2. 25% Scholarship on tuition Rs 150,000

3. 50% Scholarship on tuition Rs 300,000

4. 75% Scholarship on tuition Rs 450,000

5. Full-tuition Scholarship Rs 600,000

6. Full Scholarship Rs 770,000

Note: The meal plan of Rs 80,000 will be an additional cost for Full Scholarship candidates

The interested and eligible candidates can apply online for Young India Fellowship; there they have to register themselves on the Young India Fellowship website www.youngindiafellowship.com

 

Once the candidates is registered, an email will be sent to the applicant's registered email ID

Important Dates for Young India Fellowship

 

YIF has a rolling admission process and is split into two rounds. Each round accepts applications within a specified time-frame and selects Fellows from the pool of applications in that round

Applications open for Round-1: 25th August 2017

 

Last date to submit applications for Round-1: 17th December 2017

 

Telephonic interviews: 16th October 2017 - 31st January 2018

 

In-person interviews for Round-1 applicants: 11th December 2017 - 15th March 2018

 

Final offers to Round-1 applicants: 01st January - 25th March 2018

 

Final offers to wait-listed applicants: 16th June 2018 - 25th June 2018

 

Round-2 of the Selection Process

 

Applications open for Round-2: 18th December 2017

 

Last date to submit applications for Round-2: 04h March 2018

 

Telephonic interview: 01st February - 15th May 2018

 

In-person interviews for Round-2 applicants: 16th March - 10th June 2018

 

Final offers to Round-2 applicants: 26th March - 15th June 2018

 

Final offers to wait-listed applicants: 16th June 2018 - 25th June 2018
