About Jadavpur University

It was formerly known as Bengal Technical Institute. It was founded with the view to impart education with nationalist lines. It was established in 1906 with the help of Rabindranath Tagore, Raja Subodh Chandra Malik, and Sir Rash Behari Ghosh. It was renamed to the College of Engineering and Technology, Bengal in 1910. It became a deemed university in 1955 and was renamed Jadavpur University. It is the first institute to be established completely by Indians without any help from the British.
