CAT Syllabus 2018 - CAT is a test with no predefined syllabus, however past trends suggest that CAT tests in general aptitude including Verbal Ability (English), Quant Ability (Mathematics), Logical Reasoning (LR) and Data Interpretation (DI) skills. Similar to CAT, there are other admission tests - MAT, XAT, CMAT and SNAP. There are some B-Schools (like IIFT and IRMA) which conduct their own exam. Common Admission Test popularly known as CAT is all-India national level computer- based test conducted by Indian Institutes of Management (IIMs) for admission to management programmes in IIMs and other reputed institutes of the country. Based on CAT percentile, candidates are called for next stage of selection process which usually consists of Group Discussion, Essay and Personal Interview (GDPI). CAT is a multiple-choice question based exam with negative marking for wrong answers.

What is the Syllabus for CAT 2018?

CAT English/Verbal Ability:Reading comprehension, verbal reasoning, syllogisms, analogies, antonyms and synonyms, Jumbled Paragraph, fill in the blanks, sentence correction, idioms, etc.

CAT Maths/Quant Ability:Number systems, geometry, troigonometry, probability, permutation combination, algebra, mensuration, time and work, averages, percentages, profit and loss, quadratic and linear equations, etc.

CAT Data Interpretation:Interpretation and analysis of data based on text, tables, graphs (line, area), charts (column, bar, pie), venn diagram, etc.

CAT Logical Reasoning:Clocks, calendars, binary logic, seating arrangement, blood relations, logical sequence, assumption, premise, conclusion, linear and matrix arrangement, etc.

Examination Pattern for CAT 2018

CAT 2018 will be conducted in two sessions on one day. The exam will be held on 25th November 2018 (Sunday)

 

Common Admission Test is a 3 hour duration exam; it will have questions in there sections namely (1) Verbal Ability and Reading Comprehension (2) Data Interpretation and Logical Reasoning (3) Quantitative Ability 

 

Mode of Exam: Computer Based Test 

 

Type of Questions: Multiple Choice Questions and TITA (type in the answer) type questions 

 

Duration of Exam: 3 hours 

 

Note: While in one section, you must attempt questions of only that section 

 

On screen calculator: Will be provided 

 

Official details of CAT 2018shed some light on exam pattern. It states that there will be MCQs and non-MCQs (type in the answer type) questions. Official CAT 2017 exam pattern is devoid of data on number questions distribution 

 

1. Verbal Ability & Reading Comprehension (VRC) - 60 minutes 

 

2. Data Interpretation and Logical Reasoning (DI and LR) - 60 minutes 

 

3. Quantitative Ability (QA) - 60 minutes
