The Full form of IATA is International Air Transport Association. IATA is a trade association and private organization promoting cooperation among the world’s scheduled airlines to ensure reliable, secure, safe, and economical air services, i.e. it offers consulting services to the airline industry worldwide. IATA has around 275 airlines which are associated with it. The services provided by IATA include cargo security, fleet and sales planning, capacity management, aviation security, airport operations management, airspace planning etc. Furthermore, it also offers pricing and revenue management, accounting, financing, billing, and currency clearance services.
IATA has its headquarters in Montreal, Canada. It also has its executive offices in Geneva Switzerland. It was formed in Havana Cuba in April 1945. It was the replacement of the International Air Traffic Association which was formed at The Hague in 1919. In the starting, IATA has around 57 airlines from 31 countries but currently, there are almost 250 airlines are associated with it. The main priority of IATA is Safety. It provides a safety instrument called IOSA (IATA Operation Safety Audit).
It is also made mandatory at the state level by several countries. Security is another main priority of IATA. After the tragedy of 9/11, security is very important issue being considered. So, it follows a set of rules to ensure security.
