Government Revised fellowship for research scholar

Government announces hike in Researchers Stipend – The Department of Science and Technology (DST), Government of India has announced the hike for Junior Research Fellows, Senior Research Fellows and Research Associates. DST is the nodal department for deciding emolument and service guidelines for research fellowships in basic science stream. As per the revised fellowship, the JRF stipend has been increased from Rs. 25, 000/- to Rs 31,000 per month which is 24% more than the previous fellowship amount and stipend for SRF has been increased from Rs 28,000 to Rs 35,000, which is 25% more than the previous amount. The stipends for the Research Associates (Ph.D holders or those having 3 years of research experience) have been increased in the range of Rs. 47000/- to Rs. 54000/- per month. The revised emolument will be effective from January 1, 2019.

As per the order issued by DST, all the research fellows will also be entitled for HRA as per the central government rules.

The order issued by DST reads “Selection for the award of fellowship shall ordinarily through common competitive examinations.” However, it also says that, “this shall not be applied retrospectively and the persons already enrolled shall be exempted.”

The last hike which happened was in 2014, when corresponding increased was 55% and 56 % respectively.

The protesting students had been demanding for an 80% hike, but was disappointed after this  announcement.
