SUV is a special type of 4-wheeler vehicle which can be run in all types of roads like city roads, highways, forest roads, country side roads and farmland. It is designed in such a way that it provides a spacious interior and sturdy exterior. The term Sport Utility Vehicle is generally used for a large and powerful vehicle with high ground clearance, designed to be used on rough roads or surfaces but also in highways and city roads.
SUVs are considered as one of the best option for on-road and off-road driving. These are known for their raised ground clearance, boxy body, upright, and high H point. The new models of SUVs that are coming into the market are more aerodynamic, but the weight and sheer size of the vehicle make their fuel efficiency poor. According to the interior space and size, the SUVs can be categorized in 5 types which are; Mini SUVs, Compact SUVs, Mid-sized SUVs, Full-sized SUVs, and Extended-length SUVs. The popularity of SUVs greatly increased during the late 1990s and early 2000s.
More recently, mid-size, smaller SUVs, and crossovers have become increasingly popular. Currently, SUVs are the world’s largest segment in automotive industry and accounted for around 36.8% of the world’s passenger car market in 2017.
