ISI Full Form

The Full form of ISI is Indian Standards Institute. ISI was established to create standards for the orderly growth of industries and maintaining quality in industrial production. It provides an ISI mark which is a certification mark for industrial products in India. In the Indian subcontinent, it is by far the most popular and recognized certification mark. ISI mark ensures that the product conforms to the Indian standards mentioned by Indian Standards Institute. It was developed by the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS), the national standards body of India. In India, the ISI mark is mandatory for certain products to be sold in the market, like many of the electrical appliances like electric motors, switches, wiring cables, heaters, kitchen appliances etc., and other products like Packaged foods and drinking water, Thermometers, Packaged Grocery items, LPG valves, LPG cylinders, Portland cement, automotive tires etc. In the case of most other products it is voluntary to put an ISI mark. There are many products in the market with fake ISI marks. They use ISI marks on the product without actually getting it certified. So, one should be very careful to choose the products. There are certain features of fake ISI marks, like they don’t carry the mandatory 7 digit license number. There is an IS number on the top of the ISI mark which signifies the number of the Indian standard for the particular product.
