The full form of DIG is Deputy Inspector General. In the Indian Police department, he is a one star ranked police official. A police officer can become DIG after getting promoted from the SSP rank. The DIG assists Inspector General of Police (IGP) in controlling and supervising different police stations. He is efficient and is granted many powers to maintain discipline in the police force in his area.  He provides reports to the IGP. It is the DIG who has to work in coordination with the District magistrate to solve certain cases.
