Eligibility Criteria

For Full Time PhD Program at the Institute

  • A Master’s degree in Engineering/Technology or a Master’s degree by Research in Engineering/ Technology along with a good academic record.
  • Master’s degree in Science (with a good academic record) and a valid GATE score / UGC/CSIR-JRF/GPAT/ NBHM or equivalent qualification in the relevant area tenable for the year of registration
  • Exemption under schemes as agreed by the IIT Council for students of NITs/IITs/IIITs/IISERs/IISc may be acceptable
  • GATE score in the eligible discipline

 

Reservation

  • The reservation of seats in admissions for SC, ST, OBC, EWS categories and for Persons with Disability (PwD) will be as per Government of India rules

 

Application Process

  • Candidates need to register and fill the application online only by accessing the website erp.iitjammu.ac.in/phdapplication

Other Important Instructions

  • Candidates are advised to read every instruction given in this Information Brochure very carefully before applying Online
  • Candidates are requested to apply online only. Hard copies of the application need not be submitted. Physical application will not be considered
  • Prescribed qualifications and experience are the minimum required and the mere fact that a candidate possesses the same will not entitle him/her for being called for an interview

 

Application Fee

  • Application Fee per department (non-refundable): Rs.300 (INR) for foreign nationals
  • The candidates can deposit the requisite application fee by using net banking or debit/credit card facilities. Additional charges will be applicable as per the rule of the concerned bank. The Fee will not be accepted through any other mode

 

Admission Procedure

  • Admission in the mentioned course will be made through a counseling process.
  • Candidates will be called for counseling, on the basis of merit.

 

General Guidelines

  • Applicants will be invited on an online portal on the Institute website https://iitjammu.ac.in
  • The applicant will have to submit a copy of passport, documents pertaining to education qualification and SOP along with the application form.
  • The departmental committee will shortlist the applicants and intimate the shortlisted candidates inviting them for an Interview process. This interview process can be conducted online.
  • Once selected, the candidate will be issued an offer letter containing the details of fellowship.
  • The candidate will have to apply for an appropriate VISA in time. Any assistance related to VISA will be provided by the International Relations Office of IIT Jammu. Candidates need to follow the FRRO guidelines issued and to complete the registration process.
  • The International student needs to arrange for his/her medical insurance throughout his/her stay in the Institute
  • An International student can transfer his/her earlier earned credits against the course works credits from any Institute other than IIT Jammu (as per IIT Jammu credit transfer policy from other Institute) to IIT Jammu through academic bank of credits

 

Fellowship and Accommodation

  • Maximum tenure of the fellowship: 5 years
  • Fellowships will be provided for foreign students at the same rate that of Indian students by the respective funding agency. At present, Stipend per month: INR 37,000/- for initial 2 years and INR 42,000/- from 3rd years onwards (based on the performance review after 2 years).
  • Annual contingency grant at par with the Indian students
  • Annual travel support to attend conference and workshop at par with the Indian students
  • International Students are advised to obtain travel/medical insurance on their own for full medical coverage while travelling.
