What is a prefix

Prefix – Prefix is an affix which is placed before a word. The word prefix is formed of two words – ‘pre’ and ‘fix’. ‘Pre’ means something that comes before and fix means to take position. So, prefix is a group of letters that takes position before a word. It alters the meaning of the word. Some common prefixes in English are – non-, un-, anti-, bi-, de-.

Suffix – Suffix is an affix which is placed after a word. Suffix is a letter or a group of letters that is placed after a word to form a new word. Some common suffixes in English are – -ness, -less, -ism, -hood, -ly.
