Rama Natha was a landlord’s son. He has been neglecting his responsibility towards his inheritance and family, by being obsessed with the magic potion that could turn things into gold. He was gullible and a believer in shortcuts. After being cheated by many fraud sages, he was determined to find a magic potion. He was tricked into working hard over his land. With his hard work and willpower, he now had a banana plantation. It’s only after the sage proved that there is no magic potion that could turn things into gold. He learned that hard work and diligence are the only keys to success.
Character Sketch of Madhumati
Rama’s wife, Madhumati, has a practical outlook towards success. She believes that the only key to success is hard work and willpower. Still, she stood by his side, though she didn’t support his unrealistic outlook. She helped him with the plantation, collecting dew and banana crops, and selling crops. Her efforts contributed to their wealth. She also changed Rama’s viewpoint towards success. Rama desired to see gold, which he could get from the wealth he had earned through hard work and willpower, but he never gave it a thought.
Character Sketch of Mahipati
Mahipati is the sage who changed Rama’s perspective towards success. Unlike the other fraud sages, Mahipati was the only one who didn’t cheat Rama. He tricked Rama into believing in a magic potion to distract him from it and use his time and energy on his inherited land. He knew Rama wouldn’t believe him if he told him that there was no magic potion. So, he used his obsession to teach him a lesson. Mahipati transformed his outlook on wealth and success. He would have kept on looking for magic to turn things into gold, but after meeting Mahipati, he earned wealth with his hard work that could buy him gold. Mahipati brought wisdom to Rama’s life. He transformed his outlook towards success that could only be earned through hard work, not shortcuts.
