NMIMS Mumbai PhD  Admission 2023 – SVKM’s Narsee Monjee Institute of Management Studies (NMIMS) Mumbai invites applications for admission to PhD Program in Biological Science  and Chemistry at Sunandan Divatia School of Science for the academic year 2023.

  • Online Registration on website www.nmims.edu Monday, 16th January 2023
  • Last date of online Registration Sunday, 16th July 2023
  • Call letters available on website for Written Test & Personal Interview: 19th July 2023
  • Conduct of Written test (Timing 11:00 am to 12:00 noon): 22nd July 2023
  • Conduct of Personal Interview (2 pm onwards) Saturday, 22nd July 2023
  • Result – Declaration of Merit List (after 5.00 p.m.): Friday, 28th July 2023
  • Document upload & Payment of Admission fees 29th July 2023 to 3rd August 2023
  • Commencement of Program: 5th August 2023

Eligibility Criteria

For Ph.D. in Biological Science:

  • Candidates for admission to the programme shall have a Master’s degree M. Sc. in Biology (Minimum 2 yrs Program) OR
  • The Master’s degree can be in any one of these subjects: Microbiology, Biochemistry, Life Science, Biotechnology, Botany, Zoology, Applied Biology, Bioinformatics, Biodiversity, Environmental Science. OR
  • A degree in allied fields such as M. B. B. S., M. Pharm., M. E. /M. Tech. (Biotechnology and Biochemical Engineering). OR
  • A professional degree related to Biological Sciences, which is declared equivalent to the Master’s degree by the corresponding statutory regulatory body, OR
  • An equivalent degree from a foreign educational Institution accredited by an Assessment and Accreditation Agency which is approved, recognized or authorized by an authority, established or incorporated under a law in its home country or any other statutory authority in that country for the purpose of assessing, accrediting or assuring quality and standards of educational institutions.
  • The Master’s degree should be passed with at least 55% marks in aggregate OR its equivalent grade ‘B’ in the UGC 7 – point scale (or an equivalent grade in a point scale wherever grading system is allowed).

 

For Ph.D. in Chemistry (Regular Candidate) :

  • Candidates for admission to the Ph.D program shall have a Master’s degree M.Sc (Minimum 2 yrs Program) in Chemistry. OR
  • The Master’s degree can be in any one of these subjects: in any branch of Chemical Sciences with Chemistry as major), Materials Science, Technology / Pharmaceutical Sciences, Biotechnology, Physics, Biochemistry or M. Pharm OR
  • A professional degree, related to chemical science, declared equivalent to the Master’s degree by the corresponding statutory regulatory body. OR
  • An equivalent degree from a foreign educational Institution accredited by an Assessment and Accreditation Agency which is approved, recognized or authorized by an authority, established or incorporated under a law in its home country or any other statutory authority in that country for the purpose of assessing, accrediting or assuring quality and standards of educational institutions.
  • The Master’s degree should be passed with at least 55% marks in aggregate OR its equivalent grade ‘B’ in the UGC 7 – point scale (or an equivalent grade in a point scale wherever grading system is allowed).

 

Ph.D. in Chemistry (Part – time Professional Candidates)

  • Candidates for admission to the Ph.D. program shall have a Master’s degree M. Sc. (Minimum 2 yrs Program) in Chemistry OR
  • The Master’s degree can be in any one of these subjects: in any branch of Chemical Sciences (with Chemistry as major), Materials Science, Pharmaceutical Sciences, Biotechnology, Physics, Biochemistry or M. Pharm OR
  • A professional degree declared equivalent to chemical sciences, declared equivalent to the Master’s degree by the corresponding statutory regulatory body.
  • The Master’s degree should be passed with at least 55% marks in aggregate OR its equivalent grade ‘B’ in the UGC 7 – point scale (or an equivalent grade in a point scale wherever grading system is allowed)
  • Candidates must be working in National laboratories/Institutes/Government/Private Organizations, nominated/sponsored by the respective employer with minimum one-year experience in related fields.

 

Note:

  • Candidates appearing or waiting for the final year of their programme are eligible to apply. However their admission would be considered provisional, subject to their meeting the minimum eligibility criteria after their final qualifying examination results are announced.
  • The candidate must have appeared for all his subject(s) / exams before the commencement of the respective program/s of NMIMS (Deemed to be University). The examination of any of the subjects must not be held after the commencement of the respective course. Also the candidate should be declared a pass in all the above referred subjects (s) / examinations by the University where he / she is graduating, with minimum stipulated marks in the aggregate.

  • Before filling the online form, please read all the instructions carefully mentioned in the Instruction sheet, Important dates & also Terms & Conditions given in the online application form available on the website.
  • Please upload the documents using the link given in the Call letter. It is an important and primary requirement to upload the mandatory documents before the Entrance test.  

 

Registration Fee

  • Registration Fees of Rs. 1,500/- (Nonrefundable).
  • The application fee can be paid through Debit/Credit card, internet banking.

 

Selection Process

  • Selection will be based on Written Test & Personal Interview.

 

A) Written Test

  • Section A: 50% of Research Methodology
  • Section B: 50% Area/Domain Specific

 

Note: The candidates qualified in UGC-NET (including JRF)/UGC-CSIR NET (including JRF)/SLET/GATE /teacher fellowship holders or have passed M.Phil program are exempted from NMIMS entrance test. However, they have to appear for Personal Interview

 

B) Personal Interview

  • Presentation based on SOP will be followed by Personal Interview During interview candidates are expected to discuss their research Interest/area.
  • Final merit list will be based on Written Test & Personal Interview.
