Joint Graduate Entrance Exam Biology and Interdisciplinary Life Sci. Entrance Exam (JGEEBILS) 2020

JGEEBILS 2020 - The National Centre for Biological Sciences (NCBS) Conducts Joint Graduate Entrance Exam 2020 - a shared entrance examination for several institutions doing research in biology and interdisciplinary life sciences. The Tata Institute of Fundamental Research coordinates the examination. All participating institutions use the JGEEBILS score along with other inputs as part of their admission process.

Students need to apply separately to each participating institution. Each institution has its own process: please refer to the websites of participating institutions for details of their admissions process and degree requirements.

Eligibility for Joint Graduate Entrance Exam 2020

  1. Biology: Candidates will be shortlisted for interview based on written test marks, CV and Scientific Write-up.
  2. For PhD.: Masters in Basic Science (M.Sc. Physics/Chemistry/Any branch of Biology) or any professional Master's Degree (M.Pharma./M.Tech.), or a  4 year degree program (e.g. MBBS, BDS).
  3. For I-Ph.D./M.Sc.: Bachelors in any Basic Science (Physics/Chemistry/Any branch of Biology) OR any 4-year degree program that awards a "Bachelor's degree" including B.Tech., B.E., B.V.Sc., B.Pharma. (4 year course).
  4. M.Sc. Wildlife Biology & Conservation: This year no exam.

Selection Procedure for M.Sc. & PhD through JGEEBILS 2019

  1. All applicants are required to appear for the written test conducted at different centers nationally. The test will cover basic topics in mathematics, physics, chemistry and biology
  2. There is a separate written test for the M.Sc. Wildlife Biology and Conservation covering topics on general knowledge, analytical and quantitative skills, wildlife biology and an essay on a conservation issue
  3. The NCBS and DBS admission process for PhD/Int. PhD Programs are common up to the Entrance Test. Separate interviews will be held at Bangalore and Mumbai
  4. The DBS conducts a single interview in Mumbai in February/March 2020 NCBS interviews are in two stages held over a three day period. These are typically Scheduled in May/June 2020
  5. The TIFR Nationwide Entrance Examination (GS-2020) for Biology is also called the Joint Graduate Entrance Examination for Biology and Interdisciplinary Life Sciences (JGEEBILS)

Application Fee (Non-refundable)

  1. For Male Applicants - Rs.900/- for applications submitted online
  2. For Female Applicants - Rs.300/- for applications submitted online as well as for applications sent manually by post (Please see the walk-ins section on this website)
  3. Application Fee can be paid online by Net banking/Debit/Credit Card or through DD. After successful payment transaction, please login to your account on our website by using your reference code as your user id and check the payment status of your application
  4. Normally, online payments are received within 2 working days and an auto email is sent by the system acknowledging the payment. If your transaction has been successful and your account has been debited and you do not receive the acknowledgement email within 7 days and your payment status is not updated in your account, you may write to the email ids as given in the “contact us” section
  5. Demand Draft: DD should be drawn on State Bank of India in favour of National Centre for Biological Science payable at Bangalore
  6. Instructions for downloading/printing of hall tickets will be intimated by email only after receipt of application fee/approval of fee waiver

 

JGEEBILS 2020 Application Process

  1. Application for JGEEBILS - online applications at https://univ.tifr.res.in
  2. Applications must be submitted online to www.ncbs.res.in/admissions.html. Students from remote areas who do not have access to internet may apply manually
  3. They may send a request for an application form (without DD) along with a self-addressed stamped (Rs.20/-) envelope (size 25 cm x 17 cm) super-scribed “GS-2019” to the following address "Admission Section, National Centre for Biological Sciences, Tata Institute of Fundamental Research GKVK, Bellary Road Bangalore-560065"
  4. The completed application form should be sent along with DD and two passport size photographs (one pasted on the application and one stapled to it)
