NBRC Gurgaon announces Admissions to PhD and M.Sc. (Neuroscience) Programs 2020

NBRC Gurgaon PhD and MSc in Neuroscience Courses 2020 – National Brain Research Centre (NBRC) invites applications for admission to PhD and M.Sc. (Neuroscience) Programs for the academic year 2020.

Program Details

PhD (Neuroscience)

  1. Neuroscience is interdisciplinary in nature. So, students from diverse academic backgrounds can excel in neuroscience research. Our current pool of PhD Students have diverse background such as Biology, Physics, Chemistry, Engineering and Medical Science.

 

M.Sc. (Neuroscience)

  1. This is a two-year programme. During the first year, Masters students at NBRC have to go through an intensive course-work which provides them a firm grounding in molecular, systems, computational and cognitive neuroscience. Practical courses are also included for a hands-on experience with various techniques which are used in modern neuroscience research. In their second year, students select a lab to do a full time research project. You might be eligible to switch to the Integrated M.Sc.-Ph.D. programme of NBRC.

 

Fellowships Details

  1. PhD (Neuroscience) - All admitted candidates receive a Junior Research Fellowship of Rs. 31,000/- per month + HRA (in lieu of hostel accommodation) for the first two years. After two years, you will be eligible for a Senior Research Fellowship of Rs. 35,000/- per month + HRA (in lieu of hostel accommodation).
  2. For M.Sc. (Neuroscience) - All the students are provided a fellowship of Rs. 12,000 per month (and HRA or hostel accommodation).
  3. If you fulfil the minimum eligibility criteria for admission to our M.Sc. programme, you need to appear for Joint Graduate Entrance Examination for Biology and Interdisciplinary Life Sciences 2019 (JGEEBILS 2019). Selected candidates will be called for an interview.

 

Eligibility Criteria for NBRC Gurgaon PhD and MSc in Neuroscience Courses 2020

 

For Ph.D. (Neuroscience)

  1. Master's degree or equivalent in any branch of Science such as Life Sciences / Physics / Chemistry / Mathematics / Statistics / Computer applications / Pharmacy / Veterinary Science / Psychology from a recognized Institute / University. You are also eligible if you have completed a minimum of a four-year course leading to a Bachelor's degree or equivalent in Engineering / Technology / Medicine from a recognized Institute / University.
  2. Candidates appearing for the final year of the qualifying examination are also eligible to apply.
  3. At least 55% (50% for SC / ST / PH candidates) marks or an equivalent grade or grade point average from secondary (10th) examination onwards is required.
  4. Candidates should calculate their percentage up to two decimal points to determine their eligibility.

 

For M.Sc. (Neuroscience)

  1. Bachelor's degree or equivalent in any branch of Science such as Life Sciences / Physics / Chemistry / Mathematics / Statistics / Computer applications / Pharmacy / Veterinary Science / Psychology / Engineering / Technology / Medicine from a recognized Institute / University.
  2. Candidates appearing for the final year of the qualifying examination are also eligible to apply.
  3. At least 55% (50% for SC / ST / PH candidates) marks or an equivalent grade or grade point average from secondary (10th) examination onwards is required.
  4. Candidates should calculate their percentage up to two decimal points to determine their eligibility.
  5. Only Indian nationals are eligible for the above programmes
  6. Reservation / Concessions for SC / ST / PH candidates will be as per rules of Government of India / UGC.

 

Selection Procedure

  1. National Brain Research Centre (NBRC) will select candidates through following channels for admissions to following programs for the year 2020

 

Entrance Exam

Ph.D (Neuroscience)

  1. Joint Graduate Entrance Examination for Biology and Interdisciplinary Life Sciences 2019 (JGEEBILS 2019).
  2. Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE-2019/GATE-2020) in Physics / Chemistry / Mathematics / Electrical Engineering / Electronics and Communications Engineering / Computer Science and Information Technology / Instrumentation Engineering. Joint Entrance Screening Test (JEST) (2020) (for Physics).
  3. CSIR / UGC / DBT / ICMR examination for Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) in Biology / Physics / Chemistry / Mathematics. Validity of the fellowship should be such that it can be activated on 31st August, 2020 or later. UGC-NET Lectureship / JRF qualified on / after Dec 2017.
  4. Based on their performance in any of the above qualifying examinations, candidates will be short-listed for interviews to be held at NBRC.

 

M.Sc. (Neuroscience)

  1. Joint Graduate Entrance Examination for Biology and Interdisciplinary Life Sciences 2019 (JGEEBILS 2019)
  2. M.Sc. programme candidates will be screened through JGEEBILS only.
  3. Candidates will be short-listed for a two-tier interview based on their performance in the JGEEBILS examination.

 

NBRC Gurgaon PhD and MSc in Neuroscience Courses 2020 Application Process

  1. The Candidates can apply for admission to Ph.D. or M.Sc. (Neuroscience) programmes at National Brain Research Centre (NBRC) either Online or Offline.
  2. Last Date of application from all channels, both Online and Offline, must received at NBRC by 31st March 2020.

 

Application Fee

  1. Ph.D. online application fee (General) - Rs. 300/-
  2. MSc (Neuroscience) application fee (General) - Rs. 300/-
  3. MSc (Neuroscience) application fee (SC/ST/PH) = Rs. 150/-
  4. Ph.D. online application fee (SC/ST/PH) - Rs. 150/-

 

For Applying Online

  1. For Online application form click the 'Apply Online Tab' and select the channel.
  2. Online applicants should pay the application fee through 'SBI-Collect'. https://www.onlinesbi.com/

 

By Post / Courier (Offline)

  1. NBRC prefers online applications. However, if you do not have reliable access to internet or for any other reason wish to send an application by post / courier, NBRC will accept your application.
  2. You must obtain an application form from NBRC by sending a self-addressed A-4 size envelope to the Registrar, National Brain Research Centre, Manesar-122052 Dist. Gurgaon (Haryana) with a cover note mentioning the following:
  3. The programme to which you wish to apply. The channel JGEEBILS/JEST/GATE/JRF (CSIR/UGC/DBT/ICMR)/UGC-NET LS through which you wish to apply if you are applying for Ph.D. programme
  4. The last date for receipt of requests for the offline application form from NBRC is 1st March 2020.
  5. Offline applicants can submit the application fee by a Demand Draft drawn in favour of Director, National brain Research Centre payable at Gurgaon or Manesar. Send the Demand Draft and complete application form to the Registrar, National Brain Research Centre, Manesar-122052 Dist. Gurgaon (Haryana).
  6. Please write your name and the course applied for on the back of Demand Draft. JGEEBILS/JEST candidates should write their Reference Code/ Registration No. also on the back of Demand Draft. GATE/JRF/UGC-NET LS candidates should write their GATE Roll Number/Fellowship Roll Number, the year of examination and its validity period on the back of the Demand Draft.
