M.S./Ph.D Programme

JNCASR invites applications for admission to M.S./Ph.D programmes in Science and Engineering from students who have qualified in NET-JRF/LS under CSIR/UGC fellowship schemes or DBT/ICMR-JRF or GATE/JEST/INSPIRE/ any other equivalent national level examinations

Integrated Ph.D Programme

JNCASR invites applications for admission to the Integrated Ph.D programme in Materials Science, Chemical Science, Biological Science

Minimum Requirements: For all the listed Integrated Ph.D programmes, candidates should have a minimum of 55% marks at the Bachelor’s level

Those appearing for the final examination this year can also apply

Eligibility

Materials Science: Students with Bachelor’s degree in any branch of Science can apply

Those with Bachelor’s degree in Engineering with an aptitude towards scientific research will also be considered

Candidates are expected to have sound knowledge in the fundamentals of Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics

Candidates applying for Materials Science will have to first take a written test and those short listed will have to appear for interview

The written entrance test for Materials Science will be held at three different centres in the country

Chemical Science: Students with Bachelor’s degree in any branch of Science with Chemistry as a major and mathematics as a subject at least up to PUC (10+2 level) can apply

Candidates shortlisted based on their application will be called for written test

Only the shortlisted candidates from the written test will be called for interview on the same day or the next day

Biological Sciences: This is offered in two disciplines

Evolutionary, Organismal Biology: Students with Bachelor’s degree in any branch of Science/ Mathematics/ Statistics can apply

Those with Bachelor’s degree in Engineering with an aptitude towards scientific research will also be considered

Applications will be shortlisted and the shortlisted candidates will be selected through a written test and interview

Molecular Biology and Genetics: Students with Bachelor’s degree in any branch of Science can apply

Candidates shortlisted after the scrutiny of the applications will be required to appear for a written entrance test in the areas of Biology, Chemistry, Physics and Mathematics

The written test details (date and time) will be communicated in the letter that will be sent to the shortlisted candidates

This written test will be held at only JNCASR, Bangalore

Based on their performance in the written test, the candidates will be shortlisted the same day and called for an oral examination/interview the next day

Please note that the criteria’s mentioned above are prerequisites to apply only and not for selection to the programme

Scholarships: Selected students will receive a stipend of Rs 10,000/- p.m. for the first three years

At the end of three years, successful students will receive M.S degree and can embark on the Ph.D programme with a fellowship and fees as applicable to a Ph.D student

How to Apply: Candidates applying to the above area’s should obtain a demand draft of Rs 200/- drawn in favour of Jawaharlal Nehru Centre for Advanced Scientific Research, payable at Bangalore and send it quoting your application number and the area of research (one demand draft is sufficient for multiple choices of areas)

A photocopy of the demand draft sent to JNCASR can be retained with the candidate for any future reference
