Gopi was sent out by the villagers. They asked her to get wild beans, rice, mangoes, and anything else nice. Gopi, while doing the tasks, took a twig and started drawing on the sand. A man sitting on a nearby stone noticed her. The man was holding a magic brush. He called the girl to him and gave her the brush. He told her not to use it for the rich. He wanted it to be used for the needy and poor. Gopi went back to the village without wild beans, rice, mangoes, but with the magic brush. She painted khichdi in a bowl and as the paint dried, there was actual khichdi in the bowl. The villagers were amazed and excited. But the Zaminder heard about it. He asked Gopi to paint him a fortress, treasures, and riches. Gopi respectfully refused, which angered the Zamindar. He ordered his men to take away the brush. Gopi was locked up in a cell. The Zaminder gave back the brush, promising to let Gopi go if she fulfilled his demands. However, Gopi used the magic brush to paint a road and a horse to escape the cell. When she was running away, she saw that the Zamindar and his men were still chasing her. She painted a river, which was wide and had strong currents. She threatened to paint a beast that would eat them all if they did not leave her alone. The Zaminder and his men, scared of her and the magic brush, left her alone. She returned to the village and celebrated the victory by painting sweets, tea, a courtyard, a band of musicians and a song of triumph.
