NIT Hamirpur announces Admission to PhD Program for 2019-20 December Session

NIT Hamirpur PhD Admission 2019-20  – National Institute of Technology Hamirpur invites application for Admission to PhD (Full Time / Part Time /Off Campus) Program for the Academic Year 2019-20 December Session.

 

PhD Programmes

  • The PhD Programmes shall be offered in the following departments /centres – Architecture (Arch), Civil Engineering (CE); Computer Science and Engineering (CSE); Electronics and Communication Engineering (E & CE); Electrical Engineering (EE); Mechanical Engineering (ME); Chemistry; Mathematics; Management and Humanities (M&H); Centres for Energy and Environmental Engineering (CEEE); Centres for Material Science and Engineering (CMSE)

 

NIT Hamirpur PhD Admission 2019-20 Important Dates

  • Start of online application process: 07th November 2019
  • Closing date of online application: 22nd November 2019
  • Last date of receiving hard copy of application alongwith other documents in the office of Dean (Academic), NIT Hamirpur: 27th November 2019
  • Displaying list of shortlisted candidates (for presentation and interview) on Institute website: 06th December 2019
  • Presentation/interview of the candidates in the respective Department: 12th December 2019 (09.00AM onwards)
  • Declaration of result and issuing of Admission Letters: 17th December 2019
  • Registration of selected candidates: 08th January 2020

 

Categories of Ph.D. Programmes

  • The Institute shall admit Ph.D. candidates in following categories of Ph.D. programmes:
  1. Full Time Research Scholars
  • Fellowship Research Scholars: These scholars shall be eligible for financial assistance in the form of fellowship at the approved rates and guidelines as notified by MHRD from time to time.
  • Self-financed Research Scholars: These scholars shall receive fellowship from other agencies such as UGC, CSIR, DST, etc. at their own level.
  • Sponsored Research Scholars: These scholars shall be sponsored by Government/Semi-Government Organizations/Institutions. Such a candidate must be sponsored by the current employer and must have been in employment with the sponsoring Institutions/Organization for at least two years at the time of admission.
  1. Part-Time Research Scholars
  • Institute Research Scholars: This category refers to Ph.D. Research Scholar who are regular employees of the Institute or who are working on various sponsored projects undertaken by the Institute. They are expected to work for their Ph.D. programme after fulfilling their normal duties.
  • Sponsored Research Scholars: This category comprises of Ph.D. Research Scholars who are working professionals and are sponsored by their respective organizations. While working at their respective organizations, they can pursue the Ph.D. work as a Research Scholar of the Institute.

 

Eligibility Criteria for NIT Hamirpur PhD Admission 2019-20

  • Admission to Ph.D. Programme in various Departments shall be made in accordance with the educational qualifications mentioned as follows:

Ph.D. in Engineering Departments

  • The applicant must have passed Bachelor Degree and Master Degree in Engineering/Technology in the appropriate discipline. Open/EWS/OBC-NCL candidates must have secured minimum CGPI of 6.5 on a 10-point scale (or equivalent) or 60% marks in Master Degree. Whereas, in case of SC/ST candidates, a minimum CGPI of 6.0 on a 10-point scale (or equivalent) or 55% marks in Master Degree shall be applicable.
  • The applicant must have passed Bachelor Degree in Engineering/Technology in the appropriate discipline with minimum CGPI of 8.5 on a 10-point scale (or equivalent) or 80% marks in case of Open/EWS/OBC-NCL category.
  • Whereas, in case of SC/ST candidates, a minimum CGPI of 8.0 on a 10-point scale (or equivalent) or 75% marks in Bachelor Degree will be applicable.

Ph.D. in Science Departments

  • The candidate must have passed Master Degree in Mathematics/Physics/Chemistry or equivalent with minimum CGPI of 6.5 on a 10-point scale (or equivalent) or 60% marks in case of Open/EWS /OBC-NCL category. Whereas, in case of SC/ST candidates, minimum CGPI of 6.0 on a 10-point scale (or equivalent) or 55% marks in Master Degree will be applicable.

Ph.D. in Humanities and Social Sciences Department

  • The candidate must have passed Master Degree in Humanities/Social Sciences (Economics/Sociology/Psychology) with minimum CGPI of 6.5 on a 10-point scale (or equivalent) or 60% marks in case of Open/EWS/OBC-NCL category.
  • Whereas, in case of SC/ST candidates, minimum CGPI of 6.0 on a 10-point scale (or equivalent) or 55% marks in Master Degree will be applicable.

Ph.D. in Department of Management Studies

  • The candidate must have passed Master Degree in Management i.e. MBA with minimum CGPI of 6.5 on a 10-point scale (or equivalent) or 60% marks in case of Open/EWS/OBC-NCL category. Whereas, in case of SC/ST candidates, minimum CGPI of 6.0 on a 10-point scale (or equivalent) or 55% marks in Master Degree in Management will be applicable. OR
  • Qualified Professionals/Executives with Bachelor Degree in Engineering/Technology and working with corporate houses, and having five years professional experience may be considered. Such candidates must have minimum CGPI of 8.0 on a 10-point scale (or equivalent) or 75% marks in Bachelor Degree in case of Open/EWS/OBC-NCL category. Whereas, in case of SC/ST candidates, minimum CGPI of 7.5 on a 10-point scale (or equivalent) or 70% marks in Bachelor Degree will be applicable.

Ph.D. in Department of Architecture

  • The candidate must have passed both Bachelor Degree in Architecture/Planning and Master Degree in Architecture or equivalent degree in appropriate branch of Architecture/Planning. Open/EWS/OBC-NCL candidates must have secured minimum CGPI of 6.5 on a 10-point scale (or equivalent) or 60% marks in Master Degree.
  • Whereas, in case of SC/ST candidates, a minimum CGPI of 6.0 on a 10-point scale (or equivalent) or 55% marks in Master Degree shall be applicable. OR
  • The applicant must have passed Bachelor Degree in Architecture/Planning discipline with minimum CGPI of 8.5 on a 10-point scale (or equivalent) or 80% marks in case of Open/EWS/OBC-NCL category. Whereas, in case of SC/ST candidates, a minimum CGPI of 8.0 on a 10-point scale (or equivalent) or 75% marks in Bachelor Degree will be applicable.

Additional Requirements for Sponsored Candidates

  • A candidate who fulfills the eligibility criteria mentioned above and is sponsored by his/her employer may be considered for admission provided he/she fulfills the following conditions:
  • The sponsored candidate must attach the relevant sponsorship certificate on letterhead of the institution/organization/industry along with the application.
  • The sponsoring organization must be a reputed medium or large scale Government organization/private industry/AICTE recognized technical institution.
  • The sponsored candidate must have been in regular service of the sponsoring organization for at least two years on 22.11.2019. The sponsoring organization must specifically undertake to relieve him/her to pursue the Ph.D. programme for its full duration as per the admission category requirement. Such candidates are required to submit a No Objection Certificate from their employer/organization.

 

Admission Procedure

  • The admission to the Ph.D. programme shall be carried out as per the following procedure:
  • The applications shall be scrutinized by the Doctoral Student Selection Committee (DSSC) of the concerned Department. To shortlist the candidates to a manageable number, the Department may adopt separate criteria based on good academic record, reputation of the institute from where UG/PG degrees are obtained, etc.
  • The list of shortlisted candidates found eligible for presentation and interview shall be displayed on Institute website by Dean (Academic) as per schedule mentioned in Section 10 of this Information Brochure.
  • The shortlisted candidates are required to appear for a presentation and interview on 12.12.2019 before the duly constituted DSSC of respective Department. All the shortlisted candidates are required to report in the concerned Department on 12th December 2019 at 9.00AM.
  • The presentation should be brief and clear (around 5-10 minutes) highlighting the basic idea of proposed research. The presentation must broadly include:
  • i. The topic/subject of the proposed research work; ii. An outline containing introduction to the subject, international/national importance, broad objectives, scope and methodology of research work with relevant literature review.
  • The final recommendations of the candidates for admission shall be made by DSSC based on the performance of the candidates in presentation and interview.
  • On approval by the Chairman, Senate, the concerned HoD will issue admission letters to the selected candidates, who will be required to accept the offer of admission by depositing prescribed fees by the specified deadline

 

NIT Hamirpur PhD Admission 2019-20 Application Process

  • The applicants have to apply online through a link available at Institute website nith.ac.in. No other means of application shall be allowed. A candidate has to first register with a valid email id and mobile number.
  • Application processing fee of Rs. 1200 for Open/EWS/OBC and Rs. 600 for SC/ST per application is to be paid online through SBI Collect (https://www.onlinesbi.com/sbicollect) as per the procedure mentioned (Refer to “Guidelines for Payment of Ph.D. Application Fee Through SBI Collect”). If a candidate is applying in more than one Department, separate application is to be submitted and processing fee is to be paid for each application.
  • Before starting the online filling process, the candidates must have soft copy of recent passport size photograph and scanned copy of signature (both in JPEG format) and must have paid application fee online through SBI Collect.
  • The applicant shall have to take the print of the filled in online form and paste his/her passport size photograph on it and post it along with other documents (mentioned in Section 7) to Dean (Academic), NIT Hamirpur, HP-177005, so as to reach on or before the last date (please refer to schedule in Section 10). The envelope must be super-scribed as “Application for PhD Admission in Department ________________ for December 2019 Session (Academic Year 2019-20)”.
