M.Tech programme is offered in the Departments of Aerospace Engineering, Applied Mechanics, Chemical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Computer Science and Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mathematics (Industrial Mathematics and Scientific Computing), Mechanical Engineering, Metallurgical and Materials Engineering, Ocean Engineering and Physics (Solid State Technology)

In addition, interdisciplinary programmes in Catalysis Technology, Nuclear Engineering and Petroleum Engineering

M.Tech in Clinical Engineering as also offered

Qualification: Bachelor’s degree in Engineering/ Technology/Architecture or equivalent, or Master’s degree in Chemistry/Mathematics/Physics/Life Sciences or related subjects or Professional qualifications like AMIE or any other Associate membership as specified in the M.Tech admission website http://mtechadm.iitm.ac.in and qualified in GATE 2011 or 2012

Candidates graduating/graduated with B.Tech degree from IITs with CGPA of 7.5 and above for SC/ST category and 8.0 and above for other can apply without GATE score

Seats are reserved for SC/ST/OBC (non creamy layer)/PwD as per Govt of India rules

Assistantship: Candidates admitted to M.Tech programme are offered half time teaching assistantship (HTTA) of Rs 8000/- p.m. admission to a few additional candidates who are under merit list may also be offered without HTTA

They may get HTTA after 6 months depending upon vacancy

A limited number of selected candidates will get opportunity to do M.Tech project in Germany under DAAD fellowship scheme

Fellowship schemes

AERB-GF Scheme: Under Atomic Energy Regulatory Board (AERB) Graduate Fellowship Scheme, three candidates will be selected either from Mechanical Engineering (only in Design/Thermal/Nuclear) or Chemical Engineering discipline or from both

DAE-GF Scheme: DAE-Graduate Fellowship scheme in various engineering disciplines is offered by Department of Atomic Energy

GATE qualified candidates selected and placed in one of the DAE units after completion of M.Tech programme

Students joined under the above schemes will be offered a monthly stipend of Rs 20,000/- for two years with a one time educational material allowance of Rs 5,000/-

How to Apply: Application can be submitted only on-line

The application fee is Rs 100/- for SC/ST/PD candidates and Rs 200/- for others (demand draft to be drawn on any Nationalized bank in favour of the Registrar, IIT Madras payable at Chennai

On-line application website opens on 16th March, 2012

Last date for applying on-line 02nd April, 2012

Last date for receipt of completed applications (downloaded copy with draft) by post at the GATE office 05th April, 2012

M.Tech in Clinical Engineering: M.Tech in Clinical Engineering is a jointly programme offered by IIT Madras, Sree Chitra Tirunal Institute of Medical Sciences and Technology, Trivandrum, and Christian Medical College, Vellore

The selection will be done on an All India basis, through a screening test and/or a personal interview of eligible candidates

The M.Tech programme is of two-and-a-half years duration

The students will study and train at all the three participating institutes
