ADMISSION NOTIFICATION FOR PG PROGRAMME - 2011
Applications are invited for admission to the following postgraduate programmes of the Institute:

How to Apply
To apply for any of the programmes listed above*, eligible candidates must download and
print the application form on our website, and send the completed form along with two
recent colour photographs (one pasted on the form and one attached by clip to the form), with
photocopies of all marksheets and certificates (see List of Enclosures), and a crossed Demand
Draft for Rs. 1,500/- (non-refundable) in favour of Birla Institute of Technology, payable at
Ranchi, in a stout A4 size envelope by Speedpost / Registered Post / reliable courier to the
office of*
Dean Admissions, Birla Institute of Technology, Mesra, Ranchi – 835215 positively by the
due date. Write “Application for PG 2011 on the envelope”.
Applications reaching us after the due date are liable to be rejected / may not be
processed.
Notes:
• You may use one application form to apply for ONLY one programme – M.E. or
M. Pharm or M. Tech or MUP or M.Sc., etc, and ONLY one discipline within that programme – for example only M.E. in Mechanical or only M. Tech in Computer Science or only M.Sc. in
Bioinformatics
• However, one application form can be used to apply for various specializations within some
M.E. programmes and within the M. Pharm programme, and in the case of M.Sc.
programme in Bioinformatics, you may also use one application form to apply for different
Places for Study, in order of preference
• Please use separate application form(s) to apply for two or more programmes
• All candidates in their own interest should keep photocopies of their completed forms for
their own reference.
A postal intimation with Registration Number will be sent to all eligible candidates
whose
properly completed application forms have been received within the stipulated time. Candidates
must note their registration numbers carefully, as the same will be used in future notifications for
counselling, selections, etc.
They should also preserve the postal intimation which will be required if called for interviews /
counselling. If you do not receive the postal intimation with registration number within a
reasonable date after dispatch of your completed form, please contact the Admissions Office at
Mesra by telephone or fax.

Candidates appearing for final examinations in 2011 can also apply, and if selected can join the programme provisionally. Provisionally selected candidates will be required to produce proof of passing their qualifying examinations with requisite minimum marks by 31 October 2011, failing which the provisional admission will be cancelled.
Sponsored candidates (as per norms of AICTE): A few seats in some programmes are “Sponsored Seats” meant for candidates who are employed in recognized Educational Institutes
/ Universities / Colleges OR in Government / Defence / Research Laboratories OR in Industry,
etc. Such candidates should normally have at least two years of experience. Such candidates
must submit their applications in prescribed form, along with a letter of Sponsorship from their
Organization.

Selection Procedures:
(A) Selection Procedures for the M.E. / M. Tech / MUP programmes:
Provisional selections to the M.E. / M. Tech / MUP programmes will be on the basis of scores
obtained in GATE 2011, previous academic record, and/or written test (wherever applicable) and
personal interviews, provided that the candidates fulfill the eligibility criteria mentioned in the
preceding pages / our advertisement / notification(s) on our website
Non-GATE candidates:
1) Candidates who have not appeared or not qualified in GATE 2011 may also apply to the
M.E. / M. Tech / MUP programmes where GATE is mentioned as part of the eligibility criteria.
However, their applications will be considered only after applicants who have qualified in GATE
2011 have been considered and interviewed. Further, there will be no scholarships for these
candidates.
2) Candidates who have not appeared or not qualified in GATE 2011 may apply for the
M.E. / M. Tech programmes marked with ** (Section 5). However, there will be no
scholarships for these candidates. Provisional selections to these programmes will be on the
basis of previous academic record, written test and /or personal interviews, provided that the
candidates fulfill the eligibility criteria mentioned in the preceding pages / our advertisement /
notification(s) on our website.
(B) Selection Procedures for the M. Pharm, M.S., PG Diploma programmes:
• Provisional selections to the M. Pharm programme in Pharmaceutics, Pharmaceutical
Chemistry, Pharmacognosy and Pharmacology will be on the basis of scores obtained in
GPAT 2011, and previous academic record, and counselling provided that the candidates
fulfill the eligibility criteria mentioned in the preceding pages / our advertisement /
notification(s) on our website.
• Provisional selections to the M. Pharm programme in Clinical Research and Quality
Assurance & Regulatory Affairs will be on the basis of previous academic record, written test
and/or personal interviews, provided that the candidates fulfill the eligibility criteria mentioned
in the preceding pages / our advertisement / notification(s) on our website. There will be no
scholarships for students of these programmes. Syllabus of the test will be same as for
GPAT 2011.
• Provisional selections to the M.S. Clinical Research & Pharmacovigilance and Postgraduate
Diploma in (a) Bioanalytical Techniques, (b) Pharmacovigilance programmes will be on the
basis of previous academic record, written test and/or personal interviews, provided that the
candidates fulfill the eligibility criteria mentioned in the preceding pages / our advertisement /
notification(s) on our website. There will be no scholarships for students of these
programmes. Syllabus of the test will be same as for GPAT 2011.
(C) Selection Procedures for the M.Sc. programmes:
Provisional selections to the M.Sc. programmes will be on the basis of previous academic record
and counselling for shortlisted candidates at Kolkata, Lalpur and Mesra provided that the
candidates fulfill the eligibility criteria mentioned in the preceding pages / our advertisement /
notification(s) on our website. GATE will not be a pre-requisite for these programmes. Further,
there will be no scholarships for students of these programmes.
