Eligibility Criteria for University of Calcutta PhD Admission 2020

  • M.E./M.Tech./M.Sc./B.Tech./B.E. in Computer Science and Engineering, or equivalent and MCA. Candidates with B.Tech./B.E. may apply for the program as per provisions laid down in Section 6.4 of the Ph.D. regulations.
  • The same criteria would also be applicable for MCA students. The final semester/year students for the above qualifying courses may also apply. However, such candidates, if selected, must complete their qualifying degree before the date of enrolment.
  • The admission procedure consists of an MCQ-based online test followed by an interview for candidates successful in the same.
  • Applicants who have passed UGC/CSIR (JRF) exams in Computer Science (including NET/SET/SLET/GATE/Teacher Fellowship or equivalent) or completed an M.Tech./M.E. degree in Computer Science and Engineering or equivalent are exempt from the test.

Selection Procedure

  • Selection into the Ph.D. program does not guarantee any scholarship/stipend from either the Department or the University.

Syllabus for the Test

  • The questions for the admission test and interview will be on the following topics: Discrete Mathematics, Operating Systems, Data Structures, Algorithms, Computer Networks, Database Management Systems, Programming Languages (C, C++, Java), Computer Architecture.
  • The interview will generally be based on basic knowledge of computing but primarily on the research emphasis of the candidate.
