Eligibility Criteria for Calcutta University Ph.D. in Biotechnology Admission 2020

  • To be eligible for the application to the Ph.D. Program in Biotechnology of the University of Calcutta the candidate MUST secure at least 55% in the aggregate in their M.Sc or equivalent examination from a University recognized by the University Grants Commission (UGC).
  • Master’s Degree in relevant Discipline with minimum 55% marks in aggregate or equivalent CGPA (50% marks for SC/ST/Differently Abled Categories).
  • Candidates who have already qualified the UGC/CSIR (JRF & LS) NET/SET/SLET/GATE/ Teacher Fellowship or equivalent examination or have passed the M.Phil / M.Tech/ M.Pharm or equivalent examination with at least 50% marks in the aggregate would be exempted from taking the written test but would be required to appear for the final selection interview

Calcutta University Ph.D. in Biotechnology Admission 2020 Application Process

  • Application Form can be downloaded at the official website https://www.caluniv.ac.in/
  • Eligible applicants should fill in the prescribed application form (to be downloaded from the University of Calcutta website) and email it to [email protected] along with self-attested copies of their final mark-sheets of their Bachelor’s and Master’s degree as well as Caste Certificate, GATE/NET/SLET, M.Tech, M.Pharm, M.Phil, Teacher Fellowship Certificates (whichever is relevant to the applicant).
  • The copy of the duly filled/signed form along with all relevant self-attested supporting documents should be sent as a single/consolidated PDF file (and not as separate attachments) to the above-mentioned email address. Due description of the list of documents should be listed in the body of the email in the chronological order of their arrangement in the attached PDF file.
  • All Applications That Are Incomplete In Any Respect Or Are Not Accompanied By The Necessary Supporting Documents Would Be Rejected. All originals would also need to be produced by the candidate for due verification if offered admission based on the soft copies of the documents provided with the application form– failing which the offer of such admission would be summarily withdrawn.

Selection Process

  • Selection will be based on an online written examination of 1 hour duration and online interview.

  • Candidates qualifying the written test would be invited for the final selection interview along with candidates who are exempted from the written test and the final list of selected candidates would be determined based on the overall performance of all such candidates in this interview.

  • For the final selection interview, the candidate may be asked questions on their personal research interests and how they plan to fit into the research program(s) of choice being pursued in the labs of the above-listed faculty members as potential Ph.D. Supervisors/Mentors.

Marking Scheme

The candidate will have to answer fifty (50) multiple-choice questions that will carry a penalty for wrong answers (this will be clearly defined in the question paper)

Syllabus

  • The written test would be based on fundamental knowledge of Chemistry, Physics, and Mathematics at the Higher Secondary Level and Biological Sciences at the Masters (Advanced) Level.

Admit Card

  • Admit card can be downloaded from the website www.caluniv.ac.in
  • Admit cards will only be released for the candidates who have submitted the application form on or before the last date. Admit card contains the important details regarding the exams like examination time, venue and instruction which candidates must follow during the examination time.
