Online applications are invited for admissions to B.Ed. Course (Two years - 4 semesters) for the academic year 2017-19 in the Govt. Colleges/Aided Colleges/University Teacher Education

Centres/Unaided Colleges affiliated to University of Calicut

B.Ed. Courses

Optional subjects in Mathematics, Physical Science, Natural Science, Computer Science, Social Science, Commerce, Arabic, English, Urdu, Tamil, Malayalam and Sanskrit

The administrative and academic activities of the B.Ed. Centres are under the supervision of the Chief Co-ordinator of Calicut University Teacher Education Centres

Institutions of Seats

University of Calicut has 74 colleges (2 Govt. Colleges, 2 Aided Colleges, 1 College of Teacher Education in Lakshadweep, 11 University Teacher Education Centres and 58 Self Financing Colleges)

Management Seats in Aided and Unaided colleges are to be filled with qualified eligible candidates by the management concerned as per the norms issued by the Govt. of Kerala

Admission will be done by the institutions concerned on merit basis under the supervision of the University. Management seats in Aided and Unaided colleges are to be filled with qualified eligible candidates by the Management concerned as per the norms issued by the Govt. of Kerala

Academic Qualification

Candidates who have passed BA/B.Sc degree of the University of Calicut or a degree recognized as equivalent thereto under 10+2+3 pattern with 50% marks in Part-I+II+III together/50% Marks for Part-III alone or Masters Degree in the same subject with minimum 50% marks or 10+2+5 pattern for Integrated M.Sc Course or 10+2+3+2 pattern for M.Com

However, 10+2+3 Pattern is not insisted for B.A/B.Sc Degree holders under liberalized scheme of the University of Calicut

Candidates who have passed Bachelor’s in Engineering or Technology with specialization in Science and Mathematics with 55% marks are eligible

Candidates who have passed their qualifying examination from other Universities outside Kerala should submit Equivalency Certificate stating that their qualifying exam is recognized by the

Calicut University, for seeking admission to B.Ed Degree course in a particular optional subject, along with their application

Relaxation in Marks

SC/ST candidates including natives of Lakshadweep and candidates under Teacher Quota need only a pass in the Qualifying Exam. Relaxation of 5% marks for OBC, SEBC and OEC candidates will be allowed to the minimum required marks

Blind Candidates will be given 5% concession in aggregate marks

Age Limit

There is no upper age limit for admission to B.Ed Courses

Nativity: The B.Ed Program will be given only to Keralites but non-Keralite candidates also can be admitted to a maximum of 10% of the management quota seats in Private Self financing

English: BA Degree with English language and Literature/Functional English/Communicative English with 50% marks in Part-I+II+III together/50% Marks for Part-III alone or BA Degree with English Language and Literature/Functional English/Communicative English with Master’s Degree in English Language and Literature with not less than 50% marks

Malayalam: BA Degree with Malayalam Language and Literature with 50% marks in Part-I+II+III together/50% Marks for Part-III alone or B.A. Degree with Malayalam Language and Literature with Master’s Degree in Malayalam Language and Literature with not less than 50% marks

Hindi: BA Degree with Hindi Language and Literature with 50% marks in Part-I+II+III together/50% Marks for Part-III alone or BA Degree with Hindi language and Literature with Master’s Degree in Hindi Language and Literature with not less than 50% marks

Arabic: BA Degree with Arabic Language and Literature with 50% marks in Part-I+II+III together/ 50% Marks for Part-III alone/BA Arabic and Islamic History Double Main marks in aggregate or BA Degree with Arabic Language and Literature with Master’s Degree in Arabic Language and Literature with not less than 50% marks or BA/B.Sc with 50% of marks for Part-II Arabic

Tamil: BA Degree with Tamil Language and Literature with 50% marks in Part-I+II+III together/50% Marks for Part-III alone or BA Degree with Tamil Language and Literature with Master’s Degree in Tamil Language and Literature with not less than 50% marks or BA/B.Sc with 50% of marks for Part II Tamil and Master’s Degree in Tamil Language and Literature with not less than 50% marks

Sanskrit: BA Degree with Sanskrit Language and Literature with 50% marks in Part-I+II+III together/ 50% Marks for Part-III alone or B.A. Degree with Sanskrit Language and Literature with Master’s Degree in Sanskrit Language and Literature with not less than 50% marks

Urdu: B.A. Degree with Urdu Language and Literature with 50% marks in Part-I+II+III together/50% Marks for Part-III alone or B.A. Degree with Urdu Language and Literature with Master’s Degree in Urdu Language and Literature with not less than 50% marks

Other Optionals

Mathematics: B.Sc. Degree with Mathematics/Statistics/Applied Statistics as main with 50% marks in Part I+II+III together/ 50% Marks for Part-III alone or M. Sc Degree in Mathematics/Statistics/ Applied Statistics with 50% marks

Candidates with Statistics/Applied Statistics should have studied Mathematics as one of the subjects. Bachelor's in Engineering or Technology with specialization in Science and Mathematics with 55% marks

Physical Science: B.Sc. Degree with Physics/Chemistry/ Polymer Chemistry/B.Sc. Geology/ B.Sc. Petrochemicals/B.Sc. Bio Chemistry/ B.Sc. Industrial Chemistry main with 50% marks in Part I+II+III together/50% Marks for Part-III alone or M.Sc. Degree with Physics/ Chemistry/Polymer Chemistry /Geology/Petrochemicals/Biochemistry /Industrial Chemistry with 50% marks or M.Sc. Photonics (integrated) from CUSAT with 50% marks

Social Science: BA Degree with History/Islamic History/ Arabic and Islamic History double main with 50% marks in Part I+II+III together/50% Marks for Part-III alone or B.A/B.Sc. Degree with Geography/Politics/Economics/Sociology/Psychology/ Philosophy/West Asian Studies under part III and 50% marks in Part I+II+III together/50% Marks for Part-III alone or M.A/M.Sc. Degree in History/Islamic History/Geography/ Politics/ Economics/ Sociology/ Psychology/ Philosophy/ West Asian Studies with 50% marks

Commerce: Candidates who have secured M.Com Degree with not less than 50% marks alone are eligible for admission to the B. Ed. Course in Commerce. Such candidates are not eligible for admission to any other optional subject

Computer Science: MCA/M. Sc. Computer Science/M. Sc. Electronics with a minimum of 50% marks

Reservation of Seats
Out of the total Merit seats available for various B.Ed Courses, seats will be reserved for different categories under the following main items: (a) Reservation for nominees; (b) Reservation for Persons with Disabilities; (c) Special Reservation; and (d) Mandatory Reservation

Selection Criteria

(i) Selection is made based on the marks/grade obtained by the applicant in the Degree Exam in aggregate/Part -III. This mark/grade will be converted in to 1000. In the case of Commerce/Computer Science optional the marks/grade of PG Exam will be considered. A reduction of 1 % of the index mark for every repeated chance will be made

(ii) Special Weightage will be given to post-graduation in the subject concerned, first class-5, second class-3 and third class-1 (not applicable for Commerce and Computer Science optional). No weightage will be given to post graduate qualification if it is in subjects other than the optional chosen for B.Ed Course

Candidates who belong to the area under the jurisdiction of the University of Calicut will be given a weightage of 15 marks scored by the candidate in their Degree Exams concerned. Such candidates should produce a nativity certificate issued by the Village Officer/Tahasildar

Candidates are directed to download Application Form & Prospectus from the Website www.universityofcalicut.info and fill up the application carefully after reading the Prospectus

All candidates seeking admission to B.Ed Programmes including (General merit/Reservation/Teacher Quota/Sports/Persons with disabilities /Kashmir students/Linguistic minority/Community/ Management etc) should register through Centralized Admission Process (CAP)

Candidates who have not registered through CAP will not be permitted for admission at any stage of the admission process

Mode of Registration

The online registration through centralized admission process will be conducted in Single Stage
