Rabindra Bharati University Kolkata notifies MPhil Programmes 2014

Admission to (2 year full time) M.Phil Programmes Academic Session 2014-15

Rabindra Bharati University, Kolkata has invited applications for admission to two year full time M.Phil Programmes under semester system in the academic session 2014-15 under the Faculties of Arts and Fine Arts

Number of seats available for each department is mentioned against each

1. Faculty of Arts

i) Bengali - upto 20, ii) English - upto 12, iii) Sanskrit - upto 08, iv) Philosophy - upto 07, v) Political Science - upto 06, vi) History - upto 21, vii) Economics - upto 07, viii) Education - upto 04, ix) Human Development Studies - upto 04, x) Women's Studies - upto 04, xi) Comparative Literature - upto 06

2. Faculty of Fine Arts

i) Drama - upto 10, ii) Rabindra Sangeet- upto 05, iii) Dance - upto 10, iv) Instrumental Music- upto 10, v) Vocal Music- upto 10

Eligibility

Candidates having Master’s degree with 55% marks (50 % for SC/ST/PWD (PH) or its equivalent grade from any UGC recognized University in India or an equivalent degree of a recognized foreign University preceded by graduation with Honours or its equivalent degree in the concerned or allied subject are eligible to apply for admission to the M.Phil Programme of study in his /her disciplinary subject of study or in a subject of allied discipline or in an inter disciplinary subject

i) For Human Development Studies (Self-financing): Master's degree in any subject coming under Humanities and Social Sciences with minimum 55% (50 % for SC/ST/PWD (PH) marks in aggregate may also apply

ii) For Women’s Studies (Self-financing): Master's degree in any subject with minimum 55% (50 % for SC/ST/PWD (PH) marks in aggregate may also apply

iii) For Comparative Literature (Self-financing): Master's degree in any Language and Literature subject (e.g. English Bengali, Hindi, Urdu etc) with minimum 55% (50 % for SC/ST/PWD (PH) marks in aggregate may also apply

Candidates already in employment should apply through proper channel

Admission Procedure

The candidates will have to appear for a written Entrance Test, and if qualified, have to appear for an interview to be conducted by the Department or School or Centre concerned

However, the students who have qualified in the NET/SET/GATE/UGC (JRF)/CSIR (JRF) or Teacher Fellowship Holder will be exempted from appearing in the written Entrance Test to be conducted by the University

Such candidates will have to appear in the interview

Written Entrance Test & Interview

Written Entrance Test and Interview will be taken for selection of eligible candidates for admission to M.Phil Program

Written Entrance Test will be of 100 marks; total duration of the test will be 3 hours

Written Entrance Test will have two halves of 50 marks each

First half will be common to all candidates belonging to Faculty of Arts and Fine Arts; this half will include General knowledge, Comprehension Test, Qualitative/Quantitative/ Reasoning Aptitude etc

This half will be known as Common Research Aptitude Test

Second half will be subject oriented; it will include Objective Type Questions (10 marks), Short Answer Type Questions (20 marks) and Essay writing on given topic or areas of interest of the candidate etc (within 300 words) (20 marks)

Qualifying Marks

i) Each candidate will have to obtain 40% (30 % for SC/ST/PWD (PH) as qualifying marks in the 1st half (Common Research Aptitude Test); naturally, the marks obtained in the 2nd half will not be counted if a candidate fails to obtain the qualifying marks of 40% (30 % for SC/ST/PWD (PH) in the First half

ii) In order to qualify for the Interview, each candidate will be required to score at least 50% (45 % for SC/ST/PWD (PH) marks (marks of 1st half (if qualifying marks as indicated above is obtained) and 2nd half taken together) out of 100 marks

Interview

Each and every qualified candidate in Written Entrance Test and the candidates who have qualified in the NET/SET/GATE/UGC (JRF)/CSIR (JRF) or Teacher Fellowship Holder will be required to appear in the viva-voce /Interview of 50 marks

The Interview will be conducted by the Department/School/Centre concerned

In the viva-voce/interview for admission to M.Phil programmes, qualifying marks will be 50% (45% for SC/ST/PWD (PH)

In the case of candidates obtaining same marks in the viva-voce/interview for admission to M.Phil programmes, the merit will be determined firstly by counting the academic score obtained in the Master’s Degree; if not settled, then by counting the academic score obtained in the Bachelor’s Degree and so on down the career up to Madhyamik or its equivalent level

Merit list of the candidates will be prepared only on the basis of the marks obtained in viva-voce/Interview

How to Apply

Application Forms will be available on the website link: https://phpapps.indiaresults.com/mphil till 07.November 2014 (upto 04.00 pm)

It is mandatory to attach the demand draft/pay order for Rs.300/- drawn in favour of "Rabindra Bharati University", payable at Kolkata with the downloaded form

For downloading the Application Form, it will be mandatory for the candidates to make proper entry of the requisite information in prescribed spaces provided in the website

It is to be noted that the information entered in the prescribed places in the website will reflect on the downloaded Application Form and the same information will be saved as database for further processing of the form for admission

Details of the demand draft are mandatory for downloading the form; so draft must be prepared before filling this form

The duly filled in downloaded form along with copies of all mark sheets, certificates and other relevant documents and demand draft/pay order, has to be submitted in the Office of the Secretary, Faculty Councils at 56A, B.T. Road, Kolkata-700050, in person (not by post) within 05.00 pm 10th November 2014 positively

Students applying for more than one subject must apply separately alongwith separate demand draft/pay order for Rs.300/- (non-refundable) in the same manner as mentioned above

Important Dates

Application form will be available from the University Website only from 20th October 2014 to 07th November 2014 (upto 04.00 pm)

Submission of duly filled -in downloaded Application Form is from 20th October 2014 to 10th November 2014 (upto 05.00 pm) (Excluding Saturday, Sunday and Holidays)

Schedule of M.Phil Admission process for the session 2014-15

Publication of Eligibility List on the website: 18th November 2014 (after 04.00 pm)

Downloading of Admit Cards: 21st November 2014 to 26th November 2014

Verification of Admit Cards: 21st, 24th, 25th, and 26th November 2014 between 11.00 AM to 04.00 PM

Written Exam of CET: 29th November 2014 (1st half of all subjects and 2nd half of all subjects other than Human Development Studies, Women’s Studies and Comparative Literature) and 30th November 2014 (only 2nd half of Human Development Studies, Women’s Studies and Comparative Literature)

Publication of result of CET on the website: 09th December 2014 (after 04.00 pm)

Date of Viva Voce: 15th December 2014 to 19th December 2014

Result of Viva Voce (Publication of 1st Merit) on the website: 23rd December 2014 (after 04.00 pm)

Admission of 1st Merit List: 02nd January 2015 and 07th January 2015 (upto 03.00 pm)

Commencement of M.Phil Classes: 12th January 2015
