IIPS Mumbai MA, MSc, MPhil Admission 2018 - International Institute for Population Sciences (IIPS), Mumbai has announced notification for admission to 2 years full time Master of Arts (M.A) / Master of Science (M.Sc.) in Population Studies, 2 years M.Sc. in Bio-Statistics & Demography, 1 year Master of Philosophy (M. Phil) in Population Studies/ Bio-statistics & Demography, Integrated M.Phil. and Ph.D. in Population Studies /Bio-statistics & Demography and Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Population Studies /Bio-statistics & Demography for the academic year 2018-19

Eligibility Criteria & Courses

Master of Arts/Science in Population Studies (M.A/M.Sc)

  • No. of Seats: 50 Seats with Govt. of India Fellowship
  • Eligibility: Candidates with a Bachelor’s degree in social sciences including the subject of Mathematics/Statistics from a recognized university with at least 55% of aggregate marks or equivalent grade
  •  Age Limit: The upper age limit is 25 years as on 30th June 2018. Marks and age are relaxable for candidates belonging to reserved categories as per GOI rules
  • Duration: Two years (Full-time)
  • Fellowship: Each selected Indian student will be awarded a Govt. of India fellowship Rs.5000/- per month
  • Selection Criteria: The selection will be made on the basis of a written test and personal interview. On the basis of a common entrance test and personal interview
  • Reservation: Reservation for SC/ST/OBC/PH candidates will be considered as per the Govt. of India norms

Master of Science in Biostatistics and Demography

  • No. of Seats: 50 Seats with Govt. of India fellowship
  • Eligibility: Candidates with a Bachelor’s degree from recognized universities in India or abroad in core subject of Mathematics or Statistics or with at least, two full papers of Mathematics or Statistics with a minimum of 55% of aggregate marks in all subjects
  • Age Limit: The upper age limit is 25 years as on 30th June 2018. Marks and age are relaxable for candidates belonging to reserved categories as per GOI rules
  • Duration: Two years (Full-time)
  • Fellowship: Each selected Indian student will be awarded a Govt. of India fellowship Rs.5000/- per month
  • Selection Criteria: The selection will be made on the basis of a written test and personal interview. On the basis of a common entrance test and personal interview
  • Reservation: Reservation for SC/ST/OBC/PH candidates will be considered as per the Govt. of India norms

 

Master of Philosophy in Population Studies

  • No. of Seats: 50 Seats with Govt. of India fellowship
  • Eligibility: Candidates with a Master in Population Studies/M.A/M.Sc in Demography/ M.Sc in Biostatistics and Epidemiology from a recognized university with at least 55% of aggregate marks or equivalent;
  • Age Limit: The upper age limit is 30 years as on 30th June 2018
  • Duration: One year (Full-time)
  • Fellowship: Each selected Indian student will be awarded a Govt. of India fellowship Rs.6000/- per month
  • Selection Criteria: The selection will be made on the basis of a written test and personal interview. On the basis of a common entrance test and personal interview
  • Reservation: Reservation for SC/ST/OBC/PH candidates will be considered as per the Govt. of India norms

 

Integrated M.Phil and Ph.D. in Population Studies /Bio-statistics & Demography

  • No. of Seats: 50 Seats with Government of India Fellowship for M. Phil. and integrated M.Phil./Ph.D program
  • Eligibility: Candidates with a Master in Population Studies, Demography, Biostatistics and Demography from a recognized university in India and abroad with a minimum of 55% of aggregate marks or equivalent grade.
    Age Limit: The upper age limit is 30 years as on 30th June 2018
  • Duration: Three years to a maximum of Seven years
  • Fellowship: Each selected Indian student will be awarded a Government of India fellowship @ Rs.6,000/- per month. If a candidate opts for M.Phil. degree only, she will be eligible for a contingency grant of Rs. 5,000/- per annum for approved contingency expenses.
  • Selection Criteria: The admission to integrated M.Phil./Ph.D. course is through a three-stage process; online test, research proposal writing and personal interview.
    • Based on the performance in the Online Test., shortlisted candidates will be called for research proposal writing and personal interview at IIPS.
    • Final selection will be based on the weighted average of scores of Online Test, research proposal and personal interview.
  • Reservation: Reservation for SC/ST/OBC/PH candidates will be considered as per the Govt. of India norms

 

Doctor of Philosophy (Phd.) in Population Studies /Biostatistics & Demography

  • No. of Seats: 02 Seats with Govt. of India fellowship,  in addition UGC/CSIR-JRF or any other national level fellowship awardees shall be decided by the admission committee
  • Eligibility: Candidates with an M.Phil. in Population Studies, Biostatistics and Epidemiology, Demography from a recognized university with at least 55% of aggregate marks/equivalent grade are eligible to apply.

  • Age Limit: The upper age limit is 30 years as on 30th June 2018
  • Duration: Two years to a maximum of Six years
  • Fellowship:
    • Government of India Fellowships @ Rs. 25,000/- per month for 1st and 2nd years and Rs.28,000/- per month for 3rd and 4th years available for the Indian students who have qualified NET for Lectureship in population or its interdisciplinary subjects conducted by the UGC. Such Ph.D. fellowship also carries a contingency grant of Rs.10,000/- per year for the first two years and Rs. 20,500/- for the third year
    •  However the candidates, without NET qualification shall be awarded fellowship @ Rs.12,000/- per month for the 1st and 2nd years, and Rs.14,000/- per month for the 3rd and 4th years, with a contingency grant of Rs.10,000/- per year.
  • Selection Criteria: The admission to Ph.D. course is through a three-stage process; online test, research proposal writing and personal interview.

Post Doctoral Fellowship

  • No. of Seats: 05 Seats with Govt. of India fellowship
  • Eligibility: Candidates having Ph.D. degree in Population Studies or subjects related with population, health, gender and development.
  • Desirable: Good publication in peer reviewed journal, publication of books and research reports.
  • Age Limit: The upper age limit is 40 years as on 30th June 2018
  • Duration: One year
  • Fellowship: Each selected Indian student will be awarded a Govt. of India fellowship Rs.50,000/- per month
  • Selection Criteria: On the basis of submission of comprehensive research proposal and interview
  • Reservation: Reservation for SC/ST/OBC/PH candidates will be considered as per the Govt. of India norms

 

Application Process

  • All eligible candidates are required to register online by visiting the Institute’s website www.iipsindia.org during 30th January, 2018 to 15th March, 2018.
  • The non-refundable processing fee is Rs. 1000/- for General category, Rs. 500/- for OBC (Non Creamy Layer) category, Rs. 250/- for SC/ST/PWD category. Processing fee will not be charged from the foreign candidates while submission of completed application forms.
  • The hard copy of the online application form along with supporting documents should reach to “The Assistant Registrar (Academic), International Institute for Population Sciences, Govandi Station Road, Deonar, Mumbai-400088” on or before 21st March, 2018
