Indian Institute of Technology Tirupati announces Admission to PhD and MS (Research) January 2020 Semester

IIT Tirupati PhD and MS (Research) Admission 2020 - Indian Institute of Technology Tirupati invites applications for admission to the M.S. (Research) and Ph.D. programmes starting in January 2020 Semester.

 

IIT Tirupati

  1. Indian Institute of Technology Tirupati is the first among the 3G IITs, announced in 2014, to have its foundation stone laid in March 2015. It started functioning with the support of its mentoring institute, IIT Madras from the academic year of 2015-16.
  2. Courses are planned to nurture innovation, creativity, quality, teamwork, communication skills, ethics and societal interaction. Subsequently, M Tech, M. Sc, M.S (Research) and PhD programmes were also started.
  3. Applications are invited for admission to the M.S. (Research) and Ph.D. programmes starting in January 2020 Semester, as per details given below:

Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D)

Research Areas

Engineering:

  1. Chemical Engineering: Additive Manufacturing for Materials development, Biofuels, Process Control, Process Optimisation, Machine learning for Process Systems, Membrane Materials, Microfluidics, Water and Wastewater Treatment.
  2. Civil Engineering: Concrete Structures, Traffic Engineering, Water Resources and Environmental Engineering
  3. Computer Science & Engineering: Computer Architecture and Accelerator Design, Test and Verification of VLSI, Parallel Computing, Software Engineering, Reinforcement Learning, Stochastic Approximation Algorithms.

Categories of Admission:

  1. Candidates will be admitted to the Ph.D. programme of the Institute under one of the following categories:
  2. (a) Regular full-time scholars.
  3. (b) Research scholars under the external registration programme, sponsored by and employed in industry/organisation/national laboratories having R&D facilities and recognised by DST or by IIT Tirupati.
  4. A Research Scholar under the external registration programme will normally carry out part or all of his/her research work in the industry/organization/ national laboratory employing the scholar under the supervision of a guide employed in the same organization and a guide at IIT Tirupati. The candidate must have at least two years’ experience in the parent organization.

Eligibility Criteria

Ph.D. in Engineering

  1. Candidates with a Master’s degree in Engineering/Technology or a Master’s degree by Research in Engineering/Technology with a good academic record.
  2. Candidates with Master’s degree in Sciences with a good academic record and of exceptional merit are eligible for the relevant Engineering discipline. They should have a valid GATE score or UGC/CSIR-NET/NBHM or equivalent qualification in the relevant area tenable for the year of registration.
  3. Candidates who have qualified for the award of Bachelor’s degree in Engineering/Technology from a Centrally Funded Technical Institute (CFTI) with an exceptionally good academic record in an eligible discipline will be considered for direct admission to Ph.D. provided he/she has a minimum CGPA of 8/10.

Ph.D. in Sciences

  1.  Master’s degree in Sciences with a good academic record and having a valid GATE score or UGC/CSIR-NET/NBHM/INSPIRE/JEST or equivalent qualification tenable for the current year in the relevant area. Master’s degree holders in Engineering/Technology are also eligible
  2. ME/M.Tech or MS by Research in Engineering or 2 year M.Sc from IITs (entry through JAM) with CGPA 8.0 and above/ BS+MS (5 year integrated) from CFTI
  3. Candidates who have qualified for the award of Bachelor’s degree in Engineering/Technology from a Centrally Funded Technical Institute (CFTI) with an exceptionally good academic record in an eligible discipline will be considered for direct admission to Ph.D. in Sciences provided he/she has a minimum CGPA of 8/10.

 

Ph.D in Humanities and Social Sciences

  1. Master's degree in an eligible discipline with a good academic record or equivalent and having a valid GATE score or UGC/CSIR- NET/NBHM or equivalent qualification tenable for the current year in the relevant area.

Eligibility Criteria

For M.S. by Research

  1. The minimum educational qualifications for admission to the M.S. by research degree for full time scholars are as follows:
  2. Candidates with a Bachelor's degree in Engineering/Technology in the relevant departments with valid GATE score.
  3. Candidates having Associate Membership of the following professional bodies are also eligible for admission to the M.S. programme of their parent discipline provided they have a valid GATE score and have passed both part A and part B of the Membership examinations with a good academic record: The Institution of Engineers (India) (Civil/Mechanical/Electrical and Electronics/Electronics and communications), The Institute of Electronics and Tele-Communication Engineering.
  4. Engineering graduates from IITs and other Centrally Funded Technical Institutes (CFTI) with a CGPA of at least 8/10 are eligible for seeking admission, without GATE score, to the MS Programme and they can be offered HTRA, if selected.
  5. Candidates under External Registration should have the same qualification as in (a) however, valid GATE score is not required.

 

Selection Procedure

  1. Selection Committee will call eligible candidates possessing the minimum educational qualifications and satisfying additional and stiffer criteria set from time to time, for an interview and/or test.
  2. Based on the academic record and the performance of the candidates in the interview and/or test, the Selection Committee will recommend to the Chairman, Senate the names of candidates found suitable for admission.

 

Reservation of Seats

  1. Reservations are applicable to SC/ST/EWS/OBC-NCL/PwD candidates as per Govt. of India rules.

 

Financial Assistance

  1. Assistance will be as per MHRD norms. Fulltime Scholars admitted to M.S. program are eligible for the Half-time Teaching/Research Assistantship (HTRA) for which:
  2. They should work for 8 hours per week for the Institute to earn this assistantship. The work would normally involve assistance in teaching/research, and will be assigned by the Institute.
  3. Renewal of assistantship every semester will be contingent on enrolment, satisfactory progress in research work and good performance during the preceding semester in the discharge of responsibility as teaching/ research assistant.
  4. Other scholarships like UGC-JRF, CSIR-JRF, ICMR & AICTE etc. may also be available for those who have qualified for these schemes and get admission and the amount of fellowship will be as per the norms of the funding agency.

Application Process

  1. Online application form is available at the Institute website www.iittp.ac.in. After filling the form, please take a printout and keep it for records.
  2. Please read the instructions given in the admission brochure carefully before filling up the application form.
  3. A candidate can apply to more than one department. The maximum number of departments to which He/she can apply will be three.
  4. Candidates called for written test/interview must bring with them printed copy of the application that they submitted online along with originals and photocopies of the relevant certificates

 

Application Fee

  1. GN/EWS/OBC-NCL Male candidates: Rs.100/-
  2. GN/OBC-NCL Female candidates: Rs.50/-
  3. SC/ST and PwD candidates: Rs.50/-
  4. Application fee payable through online
  5. A valid OBC-NCL/EWS Certificate must be uploaded with the ONLINE application and submitted at the time of admission.
