Eligibility Criteria for IIT Dharwad PhD Admission 2019

Department of Electrical Engineering

  1. Qualifying Degree: M.Tech./M.E. or equivalent degree, with good academic records, in the relevant specializations (to the candidate’s preferred area of research) of either, Electrical Engineering, Electronics and (Tele)Communication Engineering, Computer Science Engineering, and Instrumentation and Control Engineering or equivalent specializations.
  2. Minimum score in the qualifying degree
  3. For General/OBC category candidates and/or for candidates where no concession in academic performance is called for, the eligibility criteria in the qualifying degree (M.Tech./M.E. or equivalent) AND the Bachelor’s Degree (B. E./B. Tech./M. Sc. or equivalent) is First Class as specified by the University. If the University doesn’t specify the division/class, then either:
  4. A minimum of 60% marks (without round off) in aggregate.
  5. A minimum Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) or Cumulative Performance Index (CPI) of 6.0 on the scale of 0-10; with corresponding proportional requirements when the scales are other than on 0-10, (for example, 4.8 on a scale of 0-8).
  6. For SC/ST category candidates and differently abled candidates (PwD), a relaxation of 5% (or CPI/CGPA of 0.5 on the scale of 0-10) in the qualifying degree is applicable.

 

Department of Mechanical Engineering

  1. General Criteria: M.Tech./M.E./MSc (Engg.) or equivalent degree in Mechanical Engineering/Aerospace/Automobile/Chemical/Civil with specialization in either Machine Design or Thermal and Fluid Sciences or related areas.
  2. Minimum score in the qualifying degree
  3. For General/OBC category candidates and/or for candidates where no concession in academic performance is called for, the eligibility criteria in the qualifying degree (M.Tech./M.E./MSc. Engineering) is a First Class as specified by the University. If the University doesn’t specify the division/class, then either:
  4. Minimum of 60% marks (without round off) in aggregate.
  5. Minimum Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) or Cumulative Performance Index (CPI) of 6.0 on the scale of 0-10; with corresponding proportional requirements when the scales are other than on 0-10, (for example, 4.8 on a scale of 0-8).
  6. For SC/ST category candidates, a relaxation of 5% in the performance at the qualifying degree is applicable.

 

Department of Computer Science and Engineering

  1. Qualifying Degree: M.Tech. or equivalent degree in Computer Science and Engineering or any related stream.
  2. Minimum score in the qualifying degree
  3. For General/OBC category candidates and/or for candidates where no concession in academic performance is called for, the eligibility criteria in the qualifying degree (M.Tech./M.E.) and the Bachelor’s Degree (B. E./B. Tech./M. Sc.) is First Class as specified by the University. If the University doesn’t specify the division/class, then either:
  4. A minimum of 60% marks (without round off) in aggregate.
  5. A minimum Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) or Cumulative Performance Index (CPI) of 6.0 on the scale of 0-10; with corresponding proportional requirements when the scales are other than on 0-10, (for example, 4.8 on a scale of 0-8).

Department of Humanities and Social Sciences

  1. General/OBC: 55% aggregate overall in Masters, (without round off), or CPI 5.5 on the scale of 10
  2. SC/ST/PwD: 50% aggregate overall in Masters, (without round off), or CPI 5 on the scale of 10
  3. Please Note: Corresponding proportional requirements are applicable when the scales are other than on 0-10 (for example, 4.4 on a scale of 0-8 for General Category Candidates). For SC/ST/PwD category candidates, a relaxation of 5% in the qualifying degree is applicable.
  4. Essential requirements for Economics: UGC-NET/GATE Qualified or M.Phil. in Economics; Master’s degree in Economics/Engineering/Science/and allied fields;
  5. Essential requirements for Philosophy: Master’s degree in Philosophy; UGC-NET Qualified or M.Phil. in Philosophy.

Department of Bio Sciences and Bio Engineering

  1. M. Tech. /M.Phil. /MSc. or equivalent in Biotechnology/Life Sciences or allied biology subjects.
  2. Candidates who are yet to complete their qualifying examinations, but expect to complete all the requirements for admission eligibility (including all examinations, project dissertation, viva-voce etc.) are also eligible to apply provided they can furnish the necessary certificates by 20th July, 2019.
  3. MSc. - Must have Valid GATE Score/ Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) of CSIR/UGC/NBHM/ DBT/ICAR/ICMR/ ICPR/PMRF or DST INSPIRE Fellowship.
  4. M. Tech and M.Phil. - GATE/JRF desirable but not essential

 

Department of Mathematics
           

  1. General/OBC (NC): The eligibility criteria in the qualifying degree is First Class, as specified by the candidate’s Institution/University. If the Institution/University does not specify the division/class, then one of the following will be considered as the eligibility criteria:
  2. A minimum of 60% marks (without round off) in aggregate; or
  3. A minimum Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA); or
  4. Cumulative Performance Index (CPI) of 6.0 on the scale of 0-10; with corresponding proportional requirements when the scales are other than on 0-10, (for example, 4.8 on a scale of 0-8).
  5. SC/ST/PWD: A relaxation of 5% in the qualifying degree is applicable.
  6. In addition to above, a candidate must satisfy one of the following:
  7. B. Tech students having background in Engineering Physics, Computer Science, Mechanical or Electrical Engineering with valid GATE score.
  8. M.Sc. in Mathematical Science or Computer Science - candidates should possess valid GATE score.
  9. M.Phil. in Mathematical Science are exempted possessing valid GATE score.
  10. M.Tech students with Computer Science, Mechanical or Electrical Engineering background – candidates are exempted from possessing VALID GATE score.
  11. Junior Research Fellowship in Mathematical Sciences from CSIR, UGC, DST (INSPIRE fellowship), and other externally funded candidates are encouraged to apply and they are exempted from possessing valid GATE score.

Department of Chemistry

  1. M.Sc./ M. Phil/ or equivalent degree in Chemistry/Biochemistry/Chemical Biology.
  2. M. Tech or equivalent degree in Chemical Sciences / Biological Sciences.
  3. For General/OBC category candidates and/or for candidates where no concession in academic performance is called for, the eligibility criteria in the qualifying degree is First Class, as specified by the candidate’s Institution/University. If the Institution/University does not specify the division/class, then one of the following will be considered as the eligibility criteria:
  4. A minimum of 60% marks (without round off) in aggregate. (OR)
  5. A minimum Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) or Cumulative Performance Index (CPI) of 6.0 on the scale of 0-10; with corresponding proportional requirements when the scales are other than on 0-10, (for example, 4.8 on a scale of 0-8).
  6. For SC/ST/PwD category candidates, a relaxation of 5% in the qualifying degree (55% and/or CGPA of 5.5 on the scale of 10) is applicable.
  7. If a candidate does not have M. Phil or M. Tech./M.E. or equivalent degree, the candidate must fulfill ONE of the following additional requirements:
  8. Valid GATE Score.
  9. Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) of CSIR/UGC/DBT/DST INSPIRE or any other funding agencies

 

Department of Physics

  1. M. Sc. or equivalent degree in Physics.
  2. B. Tech./B. E. or equivalent degree in Engineering Physics, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, and Computer Science.
  3. For General/OBC category candidates and/or for candidates where no concession in academic performance is called for, the eligibility criteria in the qualifying degree is First Class, as specified by the candidate’s Institution/University. If the Institution/University does not specify the division/class, then one of the following will be considered as the eligibility criteria:
  4. A minimum of 60% marks (without round off) in aggregate. (OR)
  5. A minimum Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) or Cumulative Performance, Index (CPI) of 6.0 on the scale of 0-10; with corresponding proportional requirements when the scales are other than on 0-10, (for example, 4.8 on a scale of 0-8).
  6. For SC/ST/PwD category candidates, a relaxation of 5% in the qualifying degree is applicable.
  7. The candidates MUST also fulfil ONE of the following additional requirements:
  8. Valid GATE Score.
  9. Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) of CSIR/UGC/DST INSPIRE or any other funding agencies.
  10. M. Phil in Physics or M. Tech./M. E. or equivalent degree in Engineering Physics, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, and Computer Science.

 

Fellowship Award (FA)

  1. At present, the assistantship is payable for a maximum duration of 5 years or up to the defence of the thesis, whichever is earlier, at the monthly rate of Rs.25000/- for the first 2 years and enhanced rate of Rs.28000/- for the remaining period, subject to satisfactory performance in academics and assigned TA duties.
  2. These students are financially supported under various Govt. / Semi Govt. schemes like CSIR, UGC, DAE, DST, DBT, NBHM, PMRF or DST INSPIRE etc. and some other organizations. The admission procedure and other requirements are same as applicable to TA.

 

Selection Procedure

  1. The selection process consists of an screening test followed by interview(s), The screening test will either be online or written and will consist of multiple choice questions.

  1. Please read the instructions given in the brochure carefully before filling up the application form. You are required to submit the application Online. No downloadable forms are available.
  2. Candidate can apply Online Application Form the University website http://www.iitdh.ac.in/academics_phd.php

Application Fee

  1. Women candidates: Rs. 100/-
  2. SC/ST/PwD category candidates: Rs. 100/-
  3. All other candidates: Rs. 200/
  4. The fee is to be paid by NEFT/RTGS Online Payment System. The details of the institute bank details are:
