Delhi University (DU) , Faculty of Education invites application form the eligible candidates for Master of Education - M.Ed. Programme admission for the academic year 2017-18

 

The University provides many courses through entrance examination and one of them is Masters in Education Programme (M.Ed.)

 

It is a full time 2 year course, aspirants who are seeking to take admission in DU M.Ed. Programme can apply for M.Ed. through online registration process which is out now on the official website of Delhi University

 

DU Faculty and Department of Education

Central Institute of Education (CIE), also known as the Faculty and the Department of Education of the University of Delhi, was perhaps the first major institution of professional learning and research in Education established after independence

 

The first Prime Minister of India, Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru and first Education Minister, Maulana Abul Kalam Azad took considerable interest in CIE's establishment in 1947 and its activities and progress in those early years

 

This programme is offered at present at CIE (Department of Education, University of Delhi), as well as at two affiliated colleges of the University of Delhi

 

Master in Education (M.Ed)

The Master of Education Programme of the Dept of Education (Central Institute of Education) was launched almost simultaneously with the Bachelor of Education Programme in the early years after the independence of our country

 

It was conceived as a professional program for advanced study of the discipline of Education. From this year onwards, CIE will offer two years full time M.Ed Program

 

About the Programme

Program Structure

The Master of Education Programme is a full time programme for duration of two academic years

 

Courses of Study

The objective of this program is to develop in-depth knowledge and specialization in education among the students of the M.Ed program

 

This is in keeping with NCTE (National Council for Teacher Education) norms, which states that the M.Ed program should encourage students to “extend as well as deepen their knowledge and understanding of education, specialize in select areas and also develop research capacities”

 

The programme is divided into following five components:

 

i) Research Methods: This will consist of two Courses and a Seminar Course to strenghthen the understanding of research

 

ii) Perspective Courses: This will help students to develop knowledge of different areas viewed as critical for education. Broadly, it will reflect areas, for example, philosophical, sociological, psychological, and historical and economic foundations of education

 

iii) Specialization Courses: It will comprise of a list of optional Courses to enhance understanding in a specialized field of study in education; this will include areas, for example, Elementary Education, Secondary Education, Science Education, Social Science Education, Language Education, and Curriculum Studies

 

iv) Seminar and Projects

 

Programme Transaction

The M.Ed Program involves lectures, discussions, practicum, student presentations, group work, school-based assignments, sessional tasks and seminars

 

Medium of Instruction and Exam

The medium of instruction for M.Ed. teaching is English. The medium of exam can be either English or Hindi depending upon the student’s choice

 

Timings

The working hours are from 09.00 am to 05.00 pm (Monday to Saturday)

 

Hostel Accommodation

CIE has a small dormitory - type hostel providing residence and boarding for students; the application for a seat in the hostel is to be submitted immediately after admission, if needed

 

Attendance

As per NCTE the minimum attendance of students shall be 80% for Theory Courses and Practicum, and 90% for Field Attachment

 

Eligibility

The candidates seeking admission to the Master of Education Programme (M.Ed) for the Academic session 2017-2018 should have obtained at least 50% marks or an equivalent grade in the following programmes:

 

i. B.Ed

 

ii. B.A. B.Ed.; B.Sc.B.Ed

 

iii. B.El.Ed

 

iv. D.El.Ed with an Undergraduate Degree (with 50% marks in each)

Selection Procedure

Selection to the programme is based on a Written Test of 400 marks. The selection lists will be prepared on the basis of scores obtained in the Written Test

 

The test will be of 2 hours duration. It will contain 100 questions in MCQ format of 4 marks each. There is NEGATIVE MARKING. For each wrong answer ONE mark would be deducted

 

The test will include questions to assess candidates’ understanding of perspectives/ foundational courses, educational theory, issues and concerns in education and their analytical and reflective abilities related to the contemporary Indian education discourses

 

Entrance Exam

The Entrance Examination comprises a written test and an interview

 

1. Written Test on Education - Duration - 2 Hrs. Maximum Marks 40+45 = 85

 

The test will include questions to assess candidates’ understanding of educational theory, their research aptitude and their analytical and reflective abilities related to the contemporary Indian education discourses

 

The test will be divided into two parts. The first will be objective type (40 marks) and will qualify the candidate for the evaluation of the second part, which will include descriptive answer questions (45 marks)

 

2. Interview - 15 marks

 

The interview will include questions to assess the candidate’s self-expression and also the ability to substantiate arguments related to educational issues

 

Age Requirement: As per Delhi University norms, there is no age bar for admission to the M.Ed. programme

 

Application Procedure

Visit www.cie.du.ac.in and read the Instructions for filling online M.Ed. from given in Appendix of M.Ed. Prospectus. Check your Eligibility according to the Eligibility criteria

 

Visit the Delhi University website www.du.ac.in and register yourself

 

Click apply online link and fill the appropriate form. As requisite information is filled, you reach to the part about payment. Choose mode of payment and fill the details as per your mode of submission of fees

 

Fill the security code carefully; by tracking the box given for compliance for undertaking, the online submission can proceed by click on submit button

 

This step completes the first part of the process and takes the candidate to a different page for completing the second part. Second part is to confirm the data entered in the previous step

The entrance fee has to be paid by payment gateway using debit/credit card

 

Registration Fee

Registered candidates have to pay the registration fee mentioned below for each category:

 

For SC/ST/PWD - Rs.250/-

 

For General /OBC and Other Category - Rs.500/-

 

Entrance fee has to be paid by Debit or Credit Card only
