Eligibility

a) For the admission in Science, Engineering and Management disciplines, only the candidates with FIRST CLASS in the qualifying degree are eligible to apply; if class is not mentioned in the candidate's certificate, then an OGPA of 7.0 or above will be considered as FIRST CLASS

b) For the admission in Humanities disciplines, candidates with 55% marks or equivalent grade in their qualifying examination are eligible to apply

c) The candidates' qualifying degree and subject should match as per details mentioned (table 5) with respect to discipline, degree and specialization

d) Candidates appearing for the final/pre-final semester exams are not eligible to apply

Age Limit

Age limit for various categories as on the last date of online application (31st October 2017) are:

For Male Candidate (General category): 30 years

For Male Candidates Other categories (OBC, PC, SC & ST): 35 years

For Female Candidates (All categories): 35 years

Age relaxation as above will be allowed for candidates with valid documents. The original documents will be scrutinized prior to the interview and if found incorrect/insufficient the candidature will be cancelled

 

Reservation Policy

Reservation for PC/SC/ST/OBC-NC candidates will be as per Govt. of India directive/guidelines

For Physically Challenged (PC) candidates, a maximum of 3% within the respective category; for Other Backward Classes non-creamy layer (OBC-NC) category candidates the certificate in the format given in Annexure II is to be produced during the interview and submitted (in original) at the time of admission by as per the admission to CEIS under the Govt. of India

 

Fellowship

The selected candidates will get a consolidated research fellowship as given in below:

M. Tech. / M.Phil. / MBA / B.Tech./ M.Sc. Tech / M.Sc.: First 2 years - Rs 25,000/-; 3rd year onwards - Rs 28,000/-

A Contingency grant of Rs.30000/- per annum is allowed with prior approval from Guide & Head of the Department. At the end of each year the work performance of the JRFs would be assessed as per the institute rules

The fellowship may be withdrawn/withheld/discontinued at any time if the research carried out is found unsatisfactory. Extension of fellowship shall not be given in any case

 

Selection Process

A candidate can get qualified for the interview through any of the following modes:

a. Valid GATE score

b. Valid NET rank

c. Qualify in JRF Entrance Examination (JRFEE)

d. Posses B.Tech from IITs in respective discipline with OGPA/CGPA 8.5 and above

The above modes will be considered as screening criteria. Merit list will be prepared only on the basis of performance of the candidate in the INTERVIEW.
JRF Entrance Examination (JRFEE)

All applicants opted for the JRFEE will have to qualify in the examination to be called for the interview. JRFEE will adopt Multiple Choice Questions with NEGATIVE marking for wrong answers.

The national wide JRFEE will be held on 12th November2017 (SUNDAY) at the centres given in below from 09.00 am - 12.00 noon

ISM JRF Interview

All the GATE/NET qualified candidates and those who qualify the ISMJRF-EE will be called for the interview on the scheduled date; the weightage for NET/ISMJRF-EE and interview would be in the ratio of 50:50

A weightage of 10 marks will be given and the interview would be held for 40 marks for those candidates having M.Tech/M.Phil with first class

 

Programme Fee

The fees to be paid at the time of admission for PhD programmes are given below. The fee should be paid by SEPARATE demand drafts drawn in favour of Registrar, Indian School of Mines, payable at Dhanbad as per the institute’s fees structure

 

Fee Structure

1. Fee payable at the time of admission - Rs 40,000/-

2. Hostel mess fee advance (Annual) - Rs 15,000/-

In addition to above, the students are required to pay an additional amount towards accidental insurance and institute blazer etc., as per actual, at the time of admission
