IIT BHU Varanasi PhD Admission 2019-20 - Indian Institute of Technology (Banaras Hindu University), Varanasi invites applications from prospective candidates for admission to Ph.D. programs in various departments/schools for the academic session 2019-20 (Even Semester).

  1. Opening for admission portal for online submission of Application Form: 31st October 2019
  2. Last date for receipt of completed application form: 15th November 2019
  3. Last Date for Notification of Shortlisted Candidates to be called for Interview on admission portal: 21st November 2019
  4. Date of Interview: 2nd to 4th December 2019
  5. Announcement of List of Candidates Offered Admission including Wait Listed candidates on Institute Website: 09th December 2019
  6. Last date for online submission of Admission Fee: 13th December 2019
  7. Last date for 1st withdrawal from Admission* / Waitlist activation: 16th December 2019

Eligibility Criteria for IIT BHU Varanasi PhD Admission 2019-20

Minimum Qualification:
Ph.D. in Engineering

  1. Applicants with a master's degree in engineering in the discipline concerned or in an allied discipline/ area must have a minimum of 60% marks or 6.0 CPI (on a 10.0 point scale) at the master’s degree level.
  2. Applicants with a bachelor's degree in engineering in the discipline concerned or in an allied discipline/area must have a minimum of 75% marks or 7.5 CPI (on a 10.0 point scale) at the bachelor’s degree level. Applicant with more than two years of professional experience, the minimum requirement shall be 70% marks or 7.0 CPI (on a 10 point scale) at bachelor degree provide the degree is from an Institution funded by the Central Government.
  3. Applicants with a master's degree in science as an allied discipline/area (where science is an allied discipline/area), must satisfy each of the following criteria:
  4. (i) A minimum of 65% marks or 6.5 CPI (on a 10.0 point scale) at the master’s degree level,
  5. (ii) A minimum of 60% marks or 6.0 CPI (on a 10.0 point scale) at the bachelor’s degree level.

 

Ph.D. in Pharmacy

  1. Applicants with a master's degree in pharmacy or in an allied discipline/area must have a minimum of 60% marks or 6.0 CPI (on a 10.0 point scale) at the master’s degree level.
  2. Applicants with a bachelor's degree in pharmacy must have a minimum of 75% marks or 7.5 CPI (on a 10.0 point scale) at the bachelor’s degree level. Applicant with more than two years of professional experience, the minimum requirement shall be 70% marks or 7.0 CPI (on a 10 point scale) at bachelor degree provide the degree is from an Institution funded by the Central Government.

 

Ph.D. in Sciences

  1. Applicants with a master's degree in science in the discipline concerned or in an allied discipline/area must have a minimum of 60% marks or 6.0 CPI (on a 10.0 point scale) at the master’s degree level.
  2. Applicants with four year bachelor’s degree in Science in the discipline concerned or in an allied discipline/area must have a minimum of 75% marks or 7.5 CPI (on a 10.0 point scale) at the bachelor’s degree level. Applicant with more than two years of professional experience, the minimum requirement shall be 70% marks or 7.0 CPI (on a 10 point scale) at bachelor degree provide the degree is from an Institution funded by the Central Government.

 

Ph.D. in Humanistic Studies

  1. Applicants with a Master's degree in a relevant subject or allied subjects with a minimum CPI of 6.00 on a 10.0 point scale (or 60% marks) in the qualifying degree.
  2. Applicants with a Master's degree in Science or allied subjects with a minimum CPI of 6.00 on a 10.0 point scale (or 60% marks) in the qualifying degree.
  3. Applicants with a Bachelor's degree in Engineering or Sciences (4-Year program) with a minimum CPI of 7.50 on a 10.0 point scale (or 75% marks) in the bachelor degree. Applicant with more than two years of professional experience, the minimum requirement shall be 70% marks or 7.0 CPI (on a 10 point scale) at bachelor degree provide the degree is from an Institution funded by the Central Government.

 

Ph.D. in Interdisciplinary Programmes
Ph.D. in Systems Engineering

  1. Applicants with a bachelor’s and master’s degree in any branch of Engineering must have a minimum of 60% marks or 6.0 CPI (on a 10.0 point scale) at the master’s degree level.
  2. Applicants with a bachelor's degree in any branch of engineering must have a minimum of 75% marks or 7.5 CPI (on a 10.0 point scale) at the bachelor’s degree level. Applicant with more than two years of professional experience, the minimum requirement shall be 70% marks or 7.0 CPI (on a 10 point scale) at bachelor degree provide the degree is from an Institution funded by the Central Government.

 

Ph.D. in Industrial Management

  1. Applicants with a bachelor's degree in any branch of engineering and a master's degree in any branch of engineering/ management must have a minimum of 60% or 6.0 CPI (on a 10.0 point scale) at the master’s degree level.
  2. Applicants with a bachelor's degree in any branch of engineering must have a minimum of 75% marks or 7.5 CPI (on a 10.0 point scale) at the bachelor’s degree level. Applicant with more than two years of professional experience, the minimum requirement shall be 70% marks or 7.0 CPI (on a 10 point scale) at bachelor degree provide the degree is from an Institution funded by the Central Government.

 

Ph.D. in Bio-chemical Engineering/Bio-medical Engineering/Materials Science and Technology

  1. Applicants with a master's degree in the discipline concerned or in an allied discipline must have a minimum of 60% or 6.0 CPI (on a 10.0 point scale) at the master’s degree level.
  2. Applicants with a bachelor's degree in the discipline concerned or in an allied discipline must have a minimum of 75% marks or 7.5 CPI (on a 10.0 point scale) at the bachelor’s degree level.
  3. Applicant with more than two years of professional experience, the minimum requirement shall be 70% marks or 7.0 CPI (on a 10 point scale) at bachelor degree provide the degree is from an Institution funded by the Central Government.

Selection Criteria

  1. Admission will be based on interview of the candidates shortlisted by the Department/School concerned.
  2. The following category of applicants shall be exempted from appearing in the written test:
    1. Full Time External Registration Category
    2. Sponsored Registration Category
    3. Part-time Registration Category
    4. Candidates having National Level Scholarships
  3. Upon approval of Chairman, Senate, the Head of the Department/Coordinator of the School concerned will issue admission letters to the candidates who will be required to accept the offer of admission by depositing the prescribed fee before a specified date.
  4. In case a candidate does not accept the offer by paying the prescribed fee by the specified date, the offer of admission will stand withdrawn, and the admission will be offered to the candidates on the waiting list, if any, in order of merit.
  5. Number of seats for Ph.D. admission will be decided by concerned Department/School.

 

Reservations

  1. For SC/ST/OBC Candidates
  2. In each discipline, 15% seats are reserved for SC, 7.5% seats for ST and 27% seats for OBC (non-creamy layer) candidates.
  3. SC/ST/OBC candidates must also satisfy the eligibility requirements for admission. However, while considering their cases, only suitability for the program is ensured and the SC/ST/OBC candidates are not compared with those belonging to other categories.
  4. Further, a relaxation of 5% marks or 0.5 CPI (on a 10 point scale) shall be admissible on the marks obtained in qualifying degree for SC and ST candidates in the admission.

Instructions for filling Form:
Step 1- Register into the admission portal

  1. Applicants MUST REGISTER into the admission portal in order to submit the application online.
  2. Click on “Register” link to OPEN the registration page; Enter your valid Email address and create a password of eight character length. All correspondences related to your application will be sent to the provided email ID only.
  3. After you have successfully completed the registration, the login credentials (username and password) will be mailed to your Email ID. In case you do not find the mail in the “Inbox”, please check in the “Spam” folder of your email account.

 

Step 2- Fill in Personal Details and Upload your photograph and signature

  1. Fill in your Full name, Father’s name, Mother’s Name and Date of birth as per your High School Certificate.
  2. Select your Gender, Nationality, Category from the “drop-lists” and Click the option (yes or no) for Physically challenged.
  3. Enter your 10-digit Mobile number; Enter your complete Correspondence address and Permanent address. Avoid typing single (') or double quote ('') symbols in the address fields.
  4. Upload your color photograph and signature (File size of each MUST BE less than 50kb) by clicking the appropriate “Browse” button. You can replace or modify the images later on, before submitting the form, if needed.

 

Step 3- Pay Online the Application Processing Fee

  1. The application processing fee (Rs.500.00 for GEN/OBC/EWS candidates and Rs.250.00 for SC/ST/Physically Disabled candidates) should be paid Online Only and is Non-Refundable.
  2. Pay the application processing fee online through SBI Collect Portal link (www.onlinesbi.com/prelogin/icollecthome.htm)
