Sambalpur University institute of information technology
SUIIT has been established in the year 2010 as an autonomous constituent institute of the University in the line of IIITs to impart training and to have quality research programme relating to Information Technology and allied subjects. The training in the institute has been envisioned to be holistic academic programme which includes training in humanities, management sciences and basic sciences besides the relevant technical subjects. SUIIT is an unique venture to make use of the decades of rich academic experience and achievements of the University in diverse fields for nurturing the young minds in the contemporaray globalised environment where the demand is for innovation, research and technical skill of international standard. The programmes of SUIIT to be started from the session 2010-2011 are the following; B.Tech. (Computer Science and Engineering), B.Tech (Electronics and Communication Engineering), M.Sc. (Bioinformatics), M.Sc. (Electronics), M.Sc. (Computer Science), M.Tech (Computer Science)
The application forms will be available from 5th May 2010
The last date of issue of application form for M.Sc /M.Tech course is 5th June 2010, 12.30 p.m.
The last date of issue of application form for B.Tech course is 15th June, 2010
Candidates who appeared in the qualifying examination in 2010 are also eligible to apply for consideration of provisional admission. All candidates who are offered provisional admission will be required to produce the proof of having passed the qualifying examination to the Institute latest by 31st August, 2010, failing which such provisional admission will stand cancelled. Such students will be given minimum percentage of eligibility, while preparing the merit list. If a candidate is found ineligible at a later date, even after admission to SUIIT, his/her admission will be cancelled without refunding the admission amount. All admissions will be subject to verification of facts from the original certificates/documents of the candidates. The decision of the concerned authorities regarding eligibility of any candidate shall be final
Procedure for submission of application for admission: Completed application in all respects may be submitted/sent to the Administrative officer, SUIIT, Sambalpur University, Jyoti Vihar-768019, Sambalpur (Orissa). Separate application should be submitted if one applies for more than one course except B.Tech. Programme. For B.Tech. Programme one can submit one application giving his choice of preferences
The applicant should check the following before submission/dispatch or his/her application (i) attested copies of the mark sheets and certificates of all examinations starting from H.S.C should be submitted along with the form. Applicants for B.Tech course have to submit AIEEE/ OJEE/IIT JEE score card, date of entrance test and the time limit of the entrance test validation date (ii) original cash receipt of Rs 450/- or Rs 500/- as the case may be in support of purchase of application form. In case of downloaded application form, bank draft for Rs 450/- as mentioned above (iii) in addition to (ii) each applicant (if applicable) must submit entrance test fee in the form of bank draft or Banker’s cheque for Rs 400/- (Rs four hundred) only drawn in favour of the SUIIT, Sambalpur University and payable at State Bank of India, Jyoti Vihar Branch (code no 6672)
Procedure for obtaining the admission application form: Admission application forms of SUIIT can be obtained from the administrative officer, PG central office, Sambalpur University, P.O.: Jyoti-Vihar, Dist-Sambalpur (Orissa)-768019 during office hours on working days
The list of selected candidates will be notified in the University website. Intimation to the selected candidates will be sent by post and will be notified in notice boards of SUIIT and PG central office
Last date for submission of application: The application duly filled in and with all the required documents shall reach administrative officer, SUIIT, Sambalpur University on or before 15th June, 2010 for M.Sc/M.Tech programme and 30th June, 2010 for B.Tech Programme respectively
Programme for the entrance examination-2010: The entrance examination for admission will be held during the period from 05.07.10 to 08.07.10 as per the following programme 9.30 a.m. to 11.30 a.m. followed by viva-voce 05.07.10 (Monday) M.Sc (Electronics); 06.07.10 (Tuesday) M.Sc. (Computer Science); 07.07.10 (Wednesday) M.Sc (Bioinformatics); 08.07.10 (Thursday) M.Tech (Computer Science)
Reservation: 12% and 8% of seats in each course are reserved for candidates belonging to ST/SC, respectively. However, the unfilled seats required for ST candidates will be filled up by admitting SC candidates and vice-versa. One seat in each department will be reserved for Physically Handicapped candidates. Such a candidate is required to produce a certificate from the CDMO regarding his/her disability for 50% or above. The SUIIT may constitute a committee of specialists from VSS Medical College to ascertain their claims
B.Tech. Programmes
In pursuit of the objectives, the SUIIT will initially offer the following 4-year B.Tech Programmes
Electronics and Communication Engineering; Computer Science and Engineering
The first year of the programme in both streams is similar and is intended to ensure a common background in the core concepts of computer science, electronics and communications and exposure to humanities. From the second year onwards the training is aimed at strengthening knowledge in chosen areas, while offering sound exposure to pure sciences, engineering and humanities streams. The courses of B.Tech programmes are of the following categories
Compulsory core courses: Courses common to all the branches
Compulsory program courses: Courses compulsory to a particular branch
Science and Humanities: Science, Humanities and Social Science elective courses
Program electives: Courses offered as elective in a particular branch
Open Electives: Courses offered in different PG Dept of the University
Eligibility: The candidate should have appeared for AIEEE 2010 and/or JEE 2010 /OJEE 2010; the candidate should have secured at least 60% in aggregate in 12th standard with subjects Physics and Mathematics
No of seats: Electronics and communication engineering (50); Computer Science and Engineering (50)
Selection criteria: On OJEE rank, attempts are underway to admit students to the institute through central counseling of OJEE. Students eligible for counseling can give the option of SUIIT while participating in the counseling. Some seats are earmarked for central counseling
On AIEEE/IITJEE/OJEE rank, eligible students can directly apply to SUIIT with the score card. Separate merit lists will be prepared based on the scores of OJEE and AIEEE. There is no other channel of entry into the programme
Fee structure: Course fees Rs 35,000/- per semester; development fees (one time) Rs 30,000/- per annum; professional society membership fees Rs 1,500/- per annum; caution money (refundable) Rs 10000/- (one time); admission and other institutional fees Rs 20,000/-
M.Sc. Computer science: The 2-year M.Sc. Computer Science programme is designed with the aim to develop core competence in Computer Science and prepare the students of BSc (Computer Science) to carry out development work, as well as take up challenges in research in two years without repeating the courses that are already covered at B.Sc level
Minimum eligibility: B.Sc Honours in Computer Science/Computer Application/ Mathematics/ Physics/ Statistics/Electronics/Information Technology or any pass graduate with one or more subjects mentioned above as a core subject a minimum of 45% marks or a Bachelor in Engineering or Technology in Electronics/Computer Science / Electronics and Telecommunications
Selection criteria: The selection will be done on the basis of written, career and viva with 60%,
30% and 10% weightage, respectively, absence of a candidate in either written or viva examinations or both shall liable to disqualify him/her for admission
No of seats: 28
M.Sc. Bioinformatics
Bioinformatics is emerging as the hottest field in the last decade covering a broad area of subjects of biological sciences, physical sciences, chemical sciences, mathematical sciences, engineering and technology with computer aided tools. The field provides a wide scope for job opportunities in India and abroad as well. Bioinformatics is expected to substantially impact on scientific, engineering and economic development of the world. The last decade encompasses the full fledged growth and development of the subject in the field of science and engineering. The large size of biological datasets, the inherent complexity of biological problems and the ability to deal with error-prone data result in special requirements, such as large memory space and huge computation time. Therefore, it opens up a variety of job prospects in the field of molecular biology, proteomics, genomics, medical applications, agriculture, and engineering to attract the students after successful completion of a degree in the field.
Minimum eligibility: Any Science /Engineering/Medical and Allied Science Graduate with at least 45%marks
Selection criteria: The selection will be done on the basis of written, career and viva with 60%, 30% and 10% weightage respectively. Absence of a candidate in either written or Viva examinations or both shall liable to disqualify him/ her for admission
Number of seats: 16
M.Sc. Eletronics: The two years M.Sc Electronics programme has been designed to make student competent in IT skills, Diverse programming language, Advanced electronic devices and embeded systems, Quantum physics and latest communication engineering topic, Design and implementation of projects with research/industrial orientation
Eligibility: Hons in Physics/Electronics/Computer Science with Physics/ Mathematics/ Statistics/ Electronics/ Chemistry/Computer Science as Pass subject, or B.Sc./B.E./B.Tech in Electronics/ Information Science and Technology/Electrical Engineering and Applied subjects or pass graduate with at least 45% marks in aggregate and having any two subjects
Selection criteria: The selection will be done on the basis of written, career and viva with 60%, 30% and 10% weightage respectively, absence of a candidate in either written or Viva examinations or both shall liable to disqualify him/ her for admission
No of seats: 20 seats
M.Tech. (Computer Science): M.Tech is a 4 semester programme having two semester course work and two semester project work
Minimum Eligibility: First Class B.E/B.Tech or first class M.Sc (Mathematics), M.Sc (Physics), M.Sc (Statistics), M.Sc (Electronics), M.Sc (CS), M.Sc (IT) or first class MCA student who have completed the course as a regular student only. Sponsored candidates in addition to the eligibility criteria for the course, teachers of university/colleges having at least two years teaching experience or a software professional with at least three years of experience are eligible under the sponsored quota

No of seats: 24 seats (20 regulars and 4 sponsored)
