 Admission 2011 Integrated Ph.D Programme in Physical Sciences

Bose Test 2011 on 19th June 2011

The S.N. Bose National Centre for Basic Sciences invites students with consistent excellent academic record (First Division/Class) to appear in the Bose Test 2011 – an Admission Test for the Post B.Sc Integrated Ph.D Programmed in Physical Sciences 2011.  The students who apply are expected to be motivated to make a career in Research.  The programme is fully residential and the students are offered on-campus accommodations and boarding facilities.  The Centre charges no fee for the programmes.

The Centre is a premier research centre fully funded by the Department of Science and Technology, Government of India.  In addition, the centre receives extramural funding from various funding agencies of India and abroad for its different research programmes.  The Centre has extensive collaborative programmes with other premier institutions in India and abroad through bi-lateral exchanges in which the PhD research scholars take active part.  The Centre is fully equipped with state-of-the art infrastructure (experimental and computational) including a digital library for advanced research in chosen areas of Physical, Chemical and Mathematical Sciences.  The research profiles of the members of the Faculty are given in the Center’s Website.

At present the Centre has nearly 130 students in its Post-M.Sc-PhD programme and Post-B.Sc Integrated PhD programmed.  The Alumni of the Centre are placed in academic and research sectors in India and abroad.  The centre offers an excellent atmosphere for academic development of students which is continuously monitored by a Thesis Committee.

The students in the programme have to undertake a prescribed course work for M.Sc and have to abide by the basic rules and regulations.  The students who successfully complete these courses receive an M.Sc Degree from the University of Calcutta.  For continuation in the Integrated Ph.D Programme and the fellowship, a minimum scholastic standard and research output have to be maintained.  The students will register for PhD degree with the University of Calcutta.  The details of the admission test are furnished below:

 

Integrated Ph.D. Programme in Physical Sciences (IPhD-PH) 2011: Bose Test

Basic qualification: B.Sc. with First Class/Division with Honours/Majors in Physics with Mathematics as one of the subjects.

1. Selection Procedure: A written test (BOSE TEST 2011) will be conducted by SNBNCBS on 19th June 2011 at different Centres throughout the Country and the successful candidates will be considered for interview.

2. Examination Centres: The centre for written test are as follows:

b. Consortium for Scientific Research (CSR), Indore

c. Jawaharlal Nehru Centre for Advanced Scientific Research (JNCASR), Bangalore

d. University of Pune, Pune

e. Indian Institute of Technology, Guwahati

f. North Bengal University, Siliguri

g. S.N. Bose National Centre for Basic Sciences, Kolkata

3. Fellowship: Rs. 12,000 per month during the first two years of the programme. Thereafter, upon meeting the eligibility criteria, the students will be inducted as JRF and will be paid Rs. 16000/- per month.

4. Application Deadline: 15th May 2011.

Students who have been called for interview based on their JEST/NGPE score, need not apply.
