Character Sketch of Xiao Ye
Xiao Ye, son of Tao Ying, whose height measured one meter nine centimeters. He is an innocent kid who believes everything he sees. He thought that his mother didn’t want to buy the bus ticket for him, which eventually made him angry at her. Tao Ying bought the ticket for him as she knew that it became a matter of pride for his son. Unaware of his parents’ circumstances, like the other kids, he became adamant about buying a bus ticket for him. After the incident at Temple, he was sure that his mother didn’t want to buy a ticket for him, though unaware of the fact that his ticket was free. Now, he doesn’t trust his mother anymore, as he doesn’t allow her to measure him. According to him, if she measures him, he will definitely turn out to be shorter. Tao Ying goes through the same emotional turmoil of how to make her son understand about the complicated things, which could be verdicted in her plea to the temple administrators in the end, to make his son understand that his mother did nothing wrong that day.

Character Sketch of Ticket Checker
A young man in a red dress stood at the temple gate and questioned Tao Ying about her child’s ticket. She explained that the child had just handed it to him, but the young ticket checker insisted on seeing her ticket, not understanding that children under 110 centimetres don’t require one. Tao Ying confidently pointed out the rule, but when she attempted to read it aloud, the guard became hostile. The young man mocked her knowledge and insisted her child was over the limit, despite her disagreement. He called the child over to measure him, but when it showed he was above 1.10 meters, the guard became aggressive, demanding she buy a ticket. Tao Ying maintained her stance, leading the young man to question her decency and demand an apology, accusing her of trying to sneak in without paying for both herself and her child. The young guard turned out to be ruthless and arrogant though he appeared to be polite in the beginning.
