Character Sketch of Echo
Echo was a nymph. A nymph is a spirit of nature in the form of a young woman. She was a chatterer. She used to detain goddess Hera with her chattering so she was unable to catch her husband, Zeus, having an illicit affair with other women. Because of this, she was cursed by Hera, who impaired her speech. Echo could only repeat the last of the words she heard. The curse lowered her confidence and playful nature significantly. She was constantly conscious and anxious that her impaired speech would be ridiculed by everyone. When she was ridiculed by Narcissus for her speech, she was so ashamed and embarrassed of herself that she hid in a dark cave and withered away there. She is the prime example of a self-conscious person with low self-love, low self-confidence, and low self-esteem.

Character Sketch of Narcissus
Narcissus was a young god. He was seen to be the most handsome god of them all. He had golden hair and a fair complexion. His beauty enchanted everyone who saw it. Everyone fell in love with him at first sight, which gave him power over others. This power made him arrogant and selfish. He always put his own feelings first, and broke the hearts of the people who loved him. He is the prime example of a narcissistic person, who is described to be arrogant, self-obsessed, and self-prioritising. He mocked Echo’s cursed speech and rejected her feelings for him. He had his downfall when he fell in love with his own reflection and withered away into a flower next to the pool.
