CUET 2022 – CUET (UG) or Common University Entrance Test is an entrance exam conducted by National Testing Agency or NTA which is meant to intake students for various undergraduate programs. This entrance test is the single way that will be providing students the opportunities to get admission for undergraduate courses at various universities, including all the central universities in India. This entrance exam has been acting as the replacement for multiple entrances conducted by various individual universities.

CUET (UG) 2022 Exam Pattern

CUET (UG) 2022 exam will be a computer-based exam consisting of Multiple Choice Questions only. The duration of the CUET (UG) 2022 exam will be 3 hours 15 minutes or 3 hours 45 minutes (based on the option selection of individual students). Though the syllabus of the exam is the same as the syllabus of the class 12 board exam, this exam differs significantly in its question pattern type. 

So let’s discuss the question pattern of the CUET (UG) exam in detail.

There will be 2 slots in the exam –

Slot 1 is of a duration of 3 hours and 15 minutes, whereas slot 2 has a duration of 3 hours and 45 minutes. 

There will be a total number of 4 sections, they are Section IA, Section IB, Section II, and Section III.

Section IA and Section IB are language sections. Section IA offers 13 languages, from which the candidate may choose one, and Section IB offers 20 languages, out of which one needs to be chosen. Both these sections will have 50 questions each, out of which 40 questions need to be attempted from each section. The duration for each of Section IA and IB is 45 minutes. 

Questions in Section II will be from domain-specific subjects. There are a total of 27 domain-specific subjects, out of which, one is allowed to choose a maximum number of 6 domains. The total number of questions offered in this section is 50, out of which, a student needs to attempt 40 questions. The duration of this section is 45 minutes. 

Section III will consist of questions based on general knowledge. This section will be taking the general test of the examinees. There will be 75 questions provided in this paper, and the students will have to attend 60 questions in the duration of 1 hour or 60 minutes. 

Paper Choices for Each Section

  • The 13 language choices for the section IA are as follows –
    • Tamil, Telugu, Bengali, Assamese, Punjabi, Kannada, Malayalam, Marathi, Urdu, Odiya, English, Hindi, and Gujarati.
  • The 20 language choices for section IB are –
    • French, Arabic, Sindhi, Sanskrit, Spanish, German, Nepali, Persian, Santhali, Tibetan, Italian, Kashmiri, Konkani, Bodo, Dogri, Maithili, Chinese, Japanese, Russian, and Manipuri.
  • 27 Domain-subject choices for section III are as follows –

Section III does not offer any paper choice option. The topics this section will be covering are General Knowledge, Current Affairs, General Mental Ability, Numerical Ability, Quantitative Reasoning (the simple application of basic mathematical concepts arithmetic/algebra geometry/mensuration/stat taught up to Grade 8) Analytical, and Logical Reasoning.

CUET Preparation Tips

As per the syllabus and question pattern released by the National Testing Agency (NTA), the syllabus of the exam will be the same as class 12th’s board exam syllabus, but to crack this exam, students will need a lot of strategic hard work, consistency, and effort, because the competition for this exam is going to be too high.

1) Follow a proper timetable
Preparing and maintaining a proper timetable to crack any exam is so crucial. Many students craft timetables according to their schedule but end up without following them. 
To crack the CUET (UG) exam, you need to create a timetable according to your available time, and divide that period for particular parts of your preparation. You can follow a single timetable for your class 12 board exam and CUET (UG) exam both. Once your board exam is over, dedicate the slots for CUET and start preparing in the full phase.

2) Learn about the exam pattern and syllabus in depth
It’s needless to say, how important it is to have a proper idea of any exam’s syllabus and question pattern, to prepare for it strategically. By studying the pattern and syllabus more in-depth, you will be getting a proper idea of which portions you need to dedicate more time to, for preparing, and which portions can be covered with engaging less time and energy.

4) Do revisions multiple times

You might have covered the whole syllabus, and have gone through the exam pattern in-depth, but nothing will work unless you give time to revisions. Divide your timetable into two parts, one part dedicated to studying new chapters, and learning new, and the other portion for recapping the old ones. Revisioning the chapters and topics you have already gone through will make you memorize them more effectively.
5) Start reading newspapers regularly

Section III of the CUET (UG) 2022 pattern is all about general knowledge. So, to score well in that portion, you need to stay updated with the current happenings in the world. For this, you need to adopt the habit of reading newspapers on a daily basis.
6) Get a particular strategy for each section

All the 4 sections of CUET (UG) 2022 exam pattern demand separate preparation strategies. The language sections of the exam require you to read editorials on a daily basis, increase your vocabulary, and reading comprehension. To prepare for the Section II of the exam pattern, you need to be well prepared with your class 12 papers. Whereas Section III demands you to stay updated with current affairs and increase your general knowledge. That’s why, you need to develop a separate study strategy for each of the sections and give each section equal importance.
