The CSIR NET 2024 exam is held in a computer-based test (CBT) mode. Candidates must select one of the five subjects (Life Sciences, Physical Sciences, Chemical Sciences, Mathematical Sciences, Earth Sciences)  during the application process, based on their academic background and expertise.The exam is of a total of 200 marks and is of 3 hours. Each question carries 2 marks. Negative marking applies with 1/4 mark being deducted for each incorrect response. 

 

The question paper will be divided into three sections:

 

Section A: This section will be common to all subjects and will consist of a maximum of 20 General Aptitude questions. Candidates must answer any 15 of these questions, each carrying two marks. The total marks for this section will be 30 out of 200.

 

Section B: This part will contain subject-specific multiple-choice questions (MCQs). It will contribute 70 marks out of the total 200 marks. The number of questions to be attempted in this section will vary between 20 and 35.

 

Section C: In this section, candidates will encounter higher value questions that may assess their understanding of scientific concepts and their ability to apply these concepts analytically to solve scientific problems. This section will be worth 100 marks out of 200.

If more than the requisite number of questions are answered, only the first 15, 35, and 25 questions in Part A, Part B, and Part C will be evaluated. Four possibilities or responses are provided for each question in Parts A, B, and C.

Credit for a question will be provided only if “ALL” of the right alternatives in Part C are identified.
