Career options after Class 12, if appeared for NEET

The National Eligibility cum Entrance Test or NEET-UG is an entrance examination in India, for students who wish to study any graduate medical course, dental course or postgraduate course in government or private medical colleges in India.

Candidate must have cleared their 10+2 with subjects-Physics, Chemistry, Biology/Biotechnology and English which is considered to be the Compulsory subject.

BAMS, BSMS, BUMS and BHMS courses were carried out on the basis of merit lists prepared by various states or Universities after they had conducted their own entrance examinations. However, from 2017 onwards, a number of states have started accepting NEET scores for admissions to these courses. From 2018 onwards, as per indications given by the Ministry of AYUSH admissions to all these courses at All India and state level in all colleges will be through NEET.

Various NEET Career Options that candidate can consider after class 12 are

1.MBBS – Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery.

The degree awarded is "Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery". The minimum requirements for the MBBS course are 50% marks in physics, chemistry, biology and English in the ’10+2′ examinations.

The MBBS course starts with the basic pre and para-clinical subjects such as biochemistry, physiology, anatomy, microbiology, pathology and pharmacology. The students simultaneously obtain hands-on training in the wards and out-patient departments, where they interact with real patients for five years. The curriculum aims to inculcate standard protocols of history taking, examination, differential diagnosis and complete patient Management. The student is taught to determine what investigations will be useful for a patient and what the best treatment options are. The curriculum also contains a thorough practical knowledge and practice of performing standard clinical procedures. The course also contains a 12-month-long internship, in which an intern is rotated across various specialties. Besides standard clinical care, one also gets a thorough experience of ward management, staff management, and thorough counselling skills.

2.BDS – Bachelor of Dental Surgery

B.D.S. or Bachelor of Dental Surgery is an undergraduate Dentistry course. The duration of Bachelor of Dental Surgery course is 4-5 years of study with internship and without internship. The B.D.S. course is divided into 2 or more semesters.

The course can be pursued as full-time or part-time graduate course. BDS course is pursued to become a dentist. The course involves lectures, demonstrations, group discussions, seminars and clinical work conferences. Candidates learn about various forms of treatment, including Surgical Treatments, Dental Anatomy, Dental Materials, Oral Histology and Pathology, Community Dentistry, Pedodontics, Oral Medicine, and Radiology.

Dental College requires plus 2 with English, Physics, Chemistry and Biology with percent marks, as per NEET requirements.

3.BHMS – Bachelor of Homeopathic Medicine & Surgery

B.H.M.S. is a bachelor degree in Homeopathic Education in India regulated by the National Institute of Homeopathy. Homeopathy is an alternative form medicine which has gained popularity in India and abroad. NEET scores are accepted for admissions to these courses. From 2018 onwards, as per indications given by the Ministry of AYUSH admissions to all these courses at All India and state level in all colleges will be through NEET.
Though allopathic medication is accepted globally and continuous research is being carried out, homeopathic medication is preferred for many long term disorders. Thus B.H.M.S. is an excellent alternative to study and make a career.
10 plus 2 in Physics, Chemistry, Biology and English to sit for Entrance Exam is the essential requirement.

 

4.BAMS Bachelor of Ayurvedic Medicine and Surgery

The course aims at providing basic education in Ayurveda leading to the degree of B.A.M.S. It aims at preparing graduates of profound scholarship in the science of Ayurveda having basic and fundamental knowledge in different subjects of Ayurveda backed up by extensive practical training. He should become an efficient teacher, a research scholar and a competent Ayurvedic physician (Kayachikitsaka) and surgeon (Shalyachikitsaka) to be able to contribute his mite in the medical and health services of the Country.
The candidate must have passed higher secondary school certificate examination after 12 years of schooling with physics, chemistry and biology subjects.

 

5.BSMS Bachelor of Siddha Medicine and Surgery

BSMS is an undergraduate program in the Siddha System of Medicine which is most Ancient Among Ayush ( Aysurveda, Yoga, and Naturopathy, Unani, Siddha and Homeopathy) systems. The Duartion of the BSMS course in India is 5.5 Years with 4.5 years of classroom study and one year of compulsory internship.  On finishing the entire course they can be titled as Dr.
Minimum eligibility is clearing 10 plus two in Physics, Chemistry, Biology, English.

6.BUMS Bachelor of Unani Medicine and Surgery

BUMS (Bachelor of Unani Medicine and Surgery) is an undergraduate degree programme in the field of Unani medicine and surgery. This degree covers the knowledge of the Unani system. To pursue and owe this degree is quite enough to become a doctor (Hakim) in the Unani medical field.

Bachelor of Unani Medicine & Surgery (BUMS) is one of the popular degrees in the field of Unani medicine. It is the UG degree which is almost sufficient to get the job. This degree is awarded after the completion of 5.5 years academic programme containing the 4 .5 year academic session and 1 year internship programme with live practical. 

The basic requirement for the eligibility to get the admission to BUMS programme is qualifying the 10+2 examination with 50% marks. The candidate must have the physics, chemistry and biology in 12th class. The students who have the language Urdu in 12th class or having proficiency in Urdu language has given the preference in admission.

 

7.BPT Physiotherapy

The Bachelor of Physiotherapy program contains the basic courses like Human Anatomy, Human Physiology, Exercise therapy and Electrotherapy. It also includes clinical courses like General medicine, General surgery, Orthopedics, Neurology and Cardio Respiratory, which will help the students get knowledge about various conditions to practice Physiotherapy.

Candidates over 17 years of age are eligible to apply. The candidate must have passed 10+2, American 12th Grade or equivalent with Physics, Chemistry, English and Biology with a minimum of 50% marks taken together in Physics, Chemistry and Biology.

Some states give preference to candidates who have sat for NEET for BPT Admission.
