Eligibility Criteria

  • An applicant seeking admission to PhD Program must have Master’s Degree in Law from any recognised University securing not less than 55% marks or its equivalent in grade; or
  • Degree in Law and a Master’s Degree in Social Science or Humanities, Management Studies or Sciences from any recognised University with not less than 55% marks or its equivalent grade; or
  • Obtained a Master’s degree in Social Sciences, Humanities or Management Studies from any recognised University with 55% marks and have had at least two years of teaching experience or PhD in any discipline.
  • In case of candidates belonging to SC/ST/OBC (non-creamy layer) and differently abled candidates a relaxation of 5% marks from 55% to 50% or an equivalent relaxation of grade shall be done

 

Selection Procedure

  • Submitted application forms will to be screened, and candidates found eligible will be required to appear for an entrance examination on 01st July 2018 in NLUO campus only
  • Foreign nationals and candidates who have passed the NET or JRF exams are exempted from appearing in the entrance exam; in subjects where NET exams are not conducted, appearing for the admission exam is mandatory

 

Entrance Test

  • The University shall conduct a Research Entrance Test (NLUORET) for the candidates who have applied for the admission in PhD Program in NLUO
  • The NLUORET shall be of 2 hours duration, carrying 200 marks based on multiple choice questions and questions requiring descriptive answers. Questions shall be from Research Methodology and Law
  • Provided a candidate who has passed NET/JRF exam conducted by the UGC or has a PhD or MPhil degree in any discipline mentioned in Rule 2 above need not appear for the entrance test of 200 marks
  • Such candidate may directly come for the presentation of the Research proposal before the Doctoral Committee as given in Rule 4.5.

No of Seats

  • Total no of seats in PhD Program is 10. University reserves the right to fill or not to fill all or any of the seats

Presentation of the Research Proposal

  • The presentation must be about the tentative research proposal of the candidate. It must contain the following elements;
  • Statement of Problem
  • Relevance of Research
  • Research Questions
  • Research Hypothesis
  • Tentative Chapterisation -
  • Final Selection of the candidates for the PhD Degree Program shall only be made on the basis of the presentation

 

Fee Details
Fee Structure (PhD Course) for Full time Candidates

  • Application Fee - Rs.3000/-
  • Registration Fee - Rs.25000/-
  • Coursework Exam Fees - Rs.1000/-
  • Thesis Evaluation Fee (at the time of submission of thesis) - Rs.20000/-
  • Continuation fees if not completed within three years - Rs.10000/- per year for a maximum of 2 years
  • Thesis Resubmission fee (if applicable) - Rs. 20000/-
  • Students Welfare Fund - Rs.5000/- per Year
  • Internet Fees - Rs.5000/- per Year
  • Library Fees - Rs.5000/- per Year
  • Electricity Charges - Rs.10000/- per Year
  • Hostel Fees - Rs 22000/- per Year

Fee structure (PhD Course) for Part-Time Candidates (External in Service candidates)

  • Application Fee - Rs. 3,000/-

Application Form

  • Applications may be downloaded from the university website www.nluo.ac.in
  • Applicants are required to submit the following:
  • Completed application form
  • A demand draft of Rs.3000/- drawn in favour of “Registrar National Law University Odisha”
  • Attested photocopies of eligibility qualification certificates and mark sheets;
  • One set of published papers, monographs, articles and books (if applicable);
  • Certificate from the Institution concerned testifying the length of service (if required);
  • A passport size photograph
  • The completed application form along with the enclosures listed above are to be sent via registered post/courier or delivered by hand at the following address the Registrar, NLUO, Kathajodi Campus, Sector 13 CDA, Cuttack-753015 (old PIN code: 753014) Odisha
